With the upsurge in passenger traffic and states easing travel restrictions, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has reintroduced five domestic routes to Tier II markets. These five destinations include Bareilly, Vishakhapatnam, Tirupati, Ajmer and Porbandar.
With the Government extending flying capacity to 65 per cent, CSMIA has witnessed a surge in travel to the Tier II cities.The airport witnessed a surge in passenger travel to the Tier II market in the month of July, with sectors such as Hyderabad, Goa and Ahmedabad (Top 3 Tier-II sectors that performed) saw 7%, 5% and 5% passenger traffic respectively to these markets. Furthermore, during this period, the airport observed domestic carriers such as Indigo, Air India and GoAir (name of the Top 3 airlines) catering to over 3,50,000, 80,000 and 46,000 (total number of pax by each airline) passengers through approximately 2,700, 850 and 400 flights respectively to the Tier II markets.
