Air passenger traffic surpasses pre-COVID levels at Mumbai Int. Airport

• Compared to the June 2019 levels, CSMIA demonstrated a remarkable recovery of 107% in air passenger traffic encompassing both domestic and international sectors
• In June 2023, CSMIA observed a 33% growth in total passenger numbers compared to June 2022(3.1 Mn). Additionally, CSMIA witnessed 39% growth specifically in international passengers.
• Middle East led the region wise traffic share with 36% share, followed by Australasia (22%), Europe (18%) and North America (16%).
• June 10th recorded the highest daily traffic with a total of 148,981 passengers.
• Dubai, London Heathrow, and Abu Dhabi, remain the top international destinations.
• Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai recorded as the top three preferred domestic destinations.
• Top Airlines serving the highest international passenger numbers were IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates.

Mumbai, 19th July 2023:

Signifying strong growth, Mumbai Int. Airport witnessed a remarkable performance in terms of passenger traffic for the month of June 2023. Fuelled by its excellent connectivity and world-class infrastructure, the airport observed 107% recovery in passenger traffic in June’ 23, as compared to Jun’19. CSMIA continues to strengthen its unrivalled position as a leader of aviation excellence with substantial surge in both domestic and international passenger numbers. This achievement serves as an enduring testament to CSMIA’s capabilities, reinforcing its position as a frontrunner in the aviation landscape of India.

The passenger traffic observed in the month of June further compliments CSMIA’s monumental growth, recording an approx. total of 4.19 million passengers -with arrivals comprising approx. 2.14 million and departures comprising 2.04 million passengers. CSMIA observed a 33% growth in total passenger numbers in June 2023, compared to June 2022. Additionally, with 1.1 Mn international passengers, CSMIA witnessed 39% growth, in comparison to 0.8 Mn same period last year.

CSMIA has also observed a significant rise in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). June 2023 alone recorded a total of 26,459 ATMs, thereby strengthening its position as a cornerstone of the aviation industry.

Delhi emerged as the topmost domestic travel destination, with 499,916 passengers. This was closely followed by Bangalore and Chennai, augmenting Mumbai Airport’s undisputed status as a premier gateway, providing non-stop and seamless connections to prominent cities across the country.

Considering the international arena, Dubai continued to be ranked as the top destination with 197,206 passengers, encompassing both arrivals and departures. London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi also catered to a high number of passengers ranking amongst the top three. Additionally, in the same period Middle East led the region wise traffic share with 36% share, followed by Australia (22%), Europe (18%) and North America (16%). This data is a testament to the strong surge in travel demand for aviation industry supporting passengers seeking travel opportunities.

On 10th June 2023, CSMIA witnessed significant passenger movement, with the highest daily traffic recorded with 148,981 passengers travelling through the airport. This includes 107,939 domestic passengers while international travellers stood at 41,042.

Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
