flydubai makes its debut at the Bahrain International Airshow

Dubai,13 November 2024: flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, makes its debut at the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2024, taking place between 13 and 15 November at the Sakhir Airbase in Manama. The carrier will showcase the retrofitted cabin interiors on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring its flagship lie-flat seats in Business Class. Visitors on day one and day two of the show will be able to experience the new onboard cabin interior which is now available across the majority of flydubai’s fleet, providing customers with a more consistent and elevated travel experience. Commenting on flydubai’s participation in the Bahrain International Airshow, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “The Bahrain International Airshow is an important event that highlights the advancements and innovations within the aviation industry in the region. We are excited to be here for the first time underscoring our commitment to the Bahraini market which we have been proudly serving since 2009. This Airshow represents an opportunity for us to showcase our newly retrofitted cabin interior and reflects our commitment to passenger comfort, integrating cutting-edge technology and design to elevate the flying experience.” The multimillion dollar retrofit programme was launched earlier in 2024. The carrier has retrofitted 15 Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year and will complete the retrofit on two more aircraft before the end of the year. The programme will continue into 2025 which will see the airline complete the retrofit on up to 20 aircraft in its fleet, providing its passengers with a consistent and enhanced experience across its fleet. flydubai’s retrofitted cabin interior also features exceptional inflight entertainment in Economy Class with a full HD, 11.6-inch screen, with a wide selection of movies, TV shows, music and games in English, Arabic and Russian. Bahrain is an important market for flydubai where the carrier operated more than 2,800 flights between January and October this year. The carrier first started operating to the market in 2009 and has carried more than four million passengers between Dubai and Bahrain to date. The carrier currently operates 31 weekly flights between Dubai and Bahrain and continues to see strong demand on the route. Today flydubai has built a growing network of more than 125 destinations in 55 countries across Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Central and Southeast Europe, the GCC and the Middle East, South Asia as well as Southeast Asia. The carrier has opened more than 90 new routes that did not previously have direct air links to Dubai and is served by a young and efficient fleet of 88 Boeing 737 aircraft.

IAF C-295 Full Motion Simulator installed at Air Force Station Agra

Agra, 13th Nov 2024: Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, AOC-in-C CAC inaugurated the IAF C-295 Full Motion Simulator (FMS) facility on 11 Nov 24 at Air Force Station Agra. A significant proportion of the pilot’s training can be undertaken in the simulator thereby saving precious flying hours on the aircraft. The state of the art simulator enables the pilots to train in near realistic environment by simulating various missions like tactical airlift, para-dropping, para-trooping, medical evacuation, disaster relief and also enables simulation of several critical situations that can be encountered in actual operations, ensuring that our pilots are battle ready. It will allow pilots to hone their skills in handling high risk emergencies that require time critical decisions, thereby enhancing the overall flight safety of military operations. The induction of C-295 aircraft into IAF will give a fillip to the aerospace ecosystem of the country, marking the beginning of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in private sector production of transport aircraft in India.

Alstef Group to Expand Baggage Handling System at Zagreb International Airport

Croatia, 11th Nov 2024: Global baggage handling specialist, Alstef Group has been awarded a significant contract to expand the baggage handling system at Zagreb International Airport, a key infrastructure project that reinforces a decade-long partnership with Croatia’s busiest airport. This new project builds upon Alstef’s initial installation of the airport’s baggage handling system in 2014, which has since been managed and maintained by an onsite Alstef team to ensure continuous, reliable service. The expansion will introduce a new check-in island equipped with 15 check-in desks, allowing the airport to accommodate a growing number of passengers efficiently. Additionally, Alstef will integrate an extra screening line along with a full suite of conveyors to seamlessly connect the new check-in area with the existing screening and make-up carousel systems. The enhancements also include the construction of a new steel platform to support the expanded infrastructure, alongside upgrades to Alstef’s BAGWARE SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and SAC (System Automation Control) systems to guarantee peak performance and operational stability. Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2025, this project underscores Alstef’s commitment to delivering innovative, scalable solutions that drive efficiency and support growth at Zagreb International Airport.

Asia Pacific Airlines gather in Brunei for Annual Meeting

Brunei, 12th Nov 2024: Bandar Sri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam – Leaders of Asia Pacific air carriers gathered in Brunei for the AAPA’s 68th Assembly of Presidents are buoyed by resiliently strong international air travel and cargo growth in 2024, which has resulted in the Asia Pacific region once again becoming the largest air transport market in the world. Themed ‘Future Proofing Asian Aviation,’ the Assembly will assess the industry’s recovery and the challenges to continued growth, including the ongoing supply chain issues affecting the timely delivery of aircraft, engines, components, and parts. A key focus will be aviation sustainability. A panel of experts representing airlines, airports, aircraft producers, governments and sustainable aviation fuel suppliers will discuss the path to carbon neutrality, prior to airline leaders considering Assembly resolutions to be announced at the close of the event. The potential for an air travel boom in emerging markets across the region will also be on the radar. Airline leaders are meeting at an exciting time with the pandemic well over, and economies in the region expected to grow exponentially in the next few years. Discussions will focus on future outlook, and a vision to make air travel for future generations even more sustainable, seamless and hassle-free. “Brunei is an ideal setting for the Assembly this year. Air Astana launches Astana to Phu Quoc Flights

Astana, 12th Nov 2024: Air Astana will be launching direct flights from Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, to the tropical resort island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam on 3rd December 2024. The service will be operated by Airbus A321LR aircraft three-times weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Together with the direct Almaty-Phu Quoc service launched on 28th October 2024, total frequencies from Kazakhstan to Phu Quoc will increase to eight flights a week. The schedule provides passengers with the flexibility to connect through both hubs. The Astana-Phu Quoc service departs at 21:30 and arrives in Phu Quoc at 07:45 the following day, with the return flight departing Phu Quoc at 09:15 and arriving back in Astana at 16:15.All times local. Round-trip fares start from US$ 774 in economy class and US$1,979 in business class. Phu Quoc is a tropical paradise with pristine beaches, lush jungles and vibrant local culture, which is perfect for relaxation and adventure. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, explore trails in the National Park and visit fishing villages to experience local life and savor fresh seafood. Other attractions include Vinpearl Safari, the Dinh Cau Night Market, the pristine Sao Beach and the Hon Thom cable car. The best time to visit Phu Quoc is from November to March.Kazakhstan citizens can enjoy visa-free travel to Vietnam for up to 30 days.

First Ever Space Exercise ‘Antariksha Abhyas – 2024’ hosted by Defence Space Agency begins in New Delhi

New Delhi, 12th Nov 2024: ‘Antariksha Abhyas – 2024’, a three day Exercise to war-game the growing threats from and to Space Based Assets and Services, is being conducted by the Defence Space Agency of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff from 11 – 13 Nov 24. Exercise Antariksha Abhyas is a first of its kind exercise being conducted and is expected to help secure national strategic objectives in space and integrate India’s space capability in military operations. In his opening address, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said, “Space, once considered the final frontier is now the critical enabler of India’s defence and security apparatus. With its rich legacy of space exploration and growing military capabilities, India is well positioned to navigate the challenges posed to space based capabilities”. Highlighting that space was becoming increasingly congested, contested, competitive and commercial, the CDS impressed upon the military leadership to secure our national interests in space by fostering innovation and developing cutting edge technologies and state of the art systems in collaboration with DRDO, ISRO and Academia. The Space Exercise aims to provide enhanced understanding of space based assets and services and to gain understanding of operational dependency on space segment between stakeholders. In addition, it intends to identify vulnerabilities in conduct of operations in the event of denial or disruptions of space based services. It will have participants from the Defence Space Agency and its allied units along with personnel from the Army, Navy and the Air Force. Specialist branches under Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff viz Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency and Strategic Forces Command would also be active participants in conduct of the exercise. Representatives from Indian Space Research Organisation and the Defence Research & Development Organisation will also take part in it.

The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .

There are features on Regional connectivity and MoCA revised rules on the UDAN 2.0 and how its going to transform the flying experience within India.
