    SriLankan Airlines and Air Seychelles Signs Codeshare Partnership

    Colombo: 29 April 2024 SriLankan Airlines and Air Seychelles have signs a codeshare partnership, ushering in seamless travel to multiple new destinations throughout Asia, Africa and Australia for their passengers flying between Colombo and Mahé. Connecting people and places across continents, the collaboration empowers SriLankan Airlines to amplify its position and reach in Africa and passengers of the airline to travel conveniently between Colombo and Mahé twice a week. For Air Seychelles, over 20 destinations are included in the partnership, which includes much requested destinations such as Sydney and Melbourne in Australia as well as other popular stops in India, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. This new codeshare agreement will allow SriLankan Airlines and Air Seychelles to place their codes on each other’s flights and enable passengers to continue their journey conveniently using a single booking and with their luggage checked in all the way to the final destination. It also means passengers can book their travels with both airlines, through online travel agencies, as well as with local travel agents.   Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines stated, “We are pleased to boost our codeshare network and presence in the African region through this new partnership. We look forward to working with Air Seychelles to provide our customers more African destination options in the coming years.” Charles Johnson, Air Seychelles’ Chief Commercial Officer shares “Now that we have been flying to Colombo for over 9 months, the twice-weekly flights have proven successful. The next step to solidifying our relationship is with this code-share, allowing even more passengers the convenience of a single ticket to more points served by our partner in Asia and Australia.” Flights under the codeshare agreement are available to book now and will begin operating in May 2024.

    Lessors can take Go First aircraft, orders Delhi High Court

    Delhi,26th April 2024: In one of the major setback,Delhi High Court has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to move on with the process of deregistering aircraft leased by Go First within the next five working days. This order means that the lessors can now reclaim their aircraft following Go First declaration of bankruptcy almost a year ago. It may be noted that the court has issued an order for the deregistration of all 54 planes involved in the case. Additionally, it has restricted Go First from operating these aircraft, added the report. Foreign lessors have been locked in a legal tussle to repossess their planes after Go First was granted bankruptcy protection in May 2023, with the recovery of 54 Airbus planes blocked under a law in place at the time. The matter was registered in the Delhi High Court by Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) Capital, ACG Aircraft Leasing,Pembroke Aviation, Accipiter Investments Aircraft 2, EOS Aviation and SMBC Aviation. They had approached the Delhi High Court in May 2023 to ask for permission to reclaim their planes as they were allowed only occasional inspections of their grounded planes.

    IndiGo enters the wide-body space with an order for 30 Firm Airbus A350-900 aircraft

    Delhi,25th April, 2024: IndiGo is further defining its long-term future by strengthening its fleet with the introduction of wide-body aircraft to its fleet. The LCC has agreed to place an order for 30 Firm A350-900 aircraft, which will enable IndiGo to spread its wings further and expand its network. The aircraft will be powered by Rolls Royce’s Trent XWB engine. The mission capability of this aircraft coupled with the efficiency of the Trent XWB engine will offer IndiGo unprecedented optionality as it embarks on the next stage of its wonderful journey of addressing the rapidly evolving needs of the Indiancustomer and our nation. Currently, IndiGo operates over 350 aircraft. Last year, in June 2023, IndiGo placed the largest ever single aircraft order by any airline for 500 aircraft with Airbus. With that, the outstanding orderbook of A320 Family aircraft stands at almost 1,000 aircraft which are yet to be delivered well into the next decade. This IndiGo order-book comprises a mix of A320NEO, A321NEO and A321XLR aircraft. This new order will bring the strategic relationship between IndiGo and Airbus to an unprecedented level in terms of depth, breadth, and size. For the relationship between IndiGo and Rolls Royce, this marks the beginning of a new, long and fruitful relationship. The exact configuration of the aircraft will be decided at a later stage, and the deliveries are expected to start from 2027. In addition to the 30 Firm A350-900 order, IndiGo has Purchase Rights for an additional 70 Airbus A350 Family aircraft, at its discretion, for possible future needs under certain conditions. In calendar year 2023, IndiGo welcomed 100 million customers onboard its flights and as such, the airline is, quite literally, giving wings to our nation. IndiGo is amongst the fastest growing airlines in the world, and this order will allow it to strengthen its growth trajectory.     Airport Show gets a wider response from global companies for its ‘Business Connect’ programme

    Dubai,25th April 2024: Multinational companies are tapping the leading annual airport industry-dedicated event, set to take place in Dubai, to enter into meaningful networking as the regional airports hunt for acquiring the latest technology and innovative services to meet the expectations of the fast-growing air travel market.     Etihad’s A380 to say bonjour to Paris

    Abu Dhabi, 24th April 2024: Etihad Airways has announced that it will start flying its A380 to Paris, CDG from 1 November, 2024.     SriLankan Airlines Transforms Aircraft Maintenance with AMOS NewGen MRO System

    Colombo, 25th April 2024: SriLankan Airlines has transformed Aircraft Maintenance with the recent integration of AMOS, a next-generation ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)solution for Aircraft Engineering and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) management by Swiss-AS. By automating the monitoring and coordination of aircraft maintenance with AMOS, SriLankan Airlines aims to boost engineering productivity, reduce costs and maintain quality and consistency in MRO operations. “SriLankan Engineering is excited to collaborate with Swiss-AS and adopt the ground breaking AMOS NewGen MRO System. The integration took several months to complete given the complexities of transitioning data from our legacy system to the advanced AMOS platform. With this transition, we anticipate modernizing our operations, achieving greater efficiency, and ensuring that we maintain our aircraft and safety standards to the highest degree,” affirmed Head of Engineering at SriLankan Airlines, Arjuna Kapugeekiyana. “Implementing the AMOS NewGen MRO System is a crucial step towards realizing our digital vision. We have further integrated the AMOS mobile/EXECMobile add-on to maximize the overall value of the project with seamless, paperless operations such as electronic work instructions and digital sign-offs that streamline unnecessary time-consuming tasks. The AMOS platform comes with multiple sophisticated features and data visualization functionalities that allow for precise inventory management and cost-effective practices. Accurate calculations and scheduling of maintenance work will enable SriLankan Engineering to effectively manage aircraft maintenance limits in alignment with flight schedules. The system also allows SriLankan to proactively plan manpower and material resources for maintenance activities, reducing Aircraft on Ground (AOG) occurrences as well as maintaining optimal inventory levels. The AMOS mobile/EXEC software extension additionally empowers engineers and technicians of SriLankan Airlines to perform aircraft dispatch functions; request parts; check on fleet status; and carry out line and base maintenance tasks through a touch-optimized app, replacing paper-based with a digitized workflow.

    magniX announces LoI with Harbour Air for 50 magni650 Electric Engines

    Everett, WA, U.S.,22 April, 2024: magniX, the company powering the electric aviation revolution has announced that Harbour Air, North America’s largest seaplane airline, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to purchase 50 magni650 electric engines. magniX’s electric propulsion units (EPUs) will be used to electrify Harbour Air’s fleet, beginning with the De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver in 2026. The magni650s will also be used for third-party conversions. The agreement is a milestone in electric aviation and a significant next step in the industry-leading partnership between magniX and Harbour Air. In December 2019, the two companies made history when the eBeaver, a Harbour Air De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver retrofitted with a magniX electric engine, became the world’s first fully electric commercial aircraft to take flight. To date, the prototype eBeaver has flown 78 flights in preparation for the certification of the aircraft. Electrifying the Skies magniX is pioneering electric aviation, having powered historic flights by five different aircraft. Alongside the eBeaver, these include Eviation’s all-electric commuter airplane, Alice, and the world’s largest hydrogen-electric aircraft, Universal Hydrogen’s retrofitted De Havilland Dash 8. “Electrifying Harbour Air’s fleet with magniX’s engines sets us on a course to define the future of regional flight,” said Riona Armesmith, Chief Technology Officer of magniX. “The many flights that the eBeaver has now completed with magniX’s technology demonstrate that the electric age of aviation is here and bringing it to the marketplace is growing rapidly closer.     RAeS publishes paper on the Mental Health Challenge in Civil Aviation

    23.04.2024 The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) has published a paper on the mental health challenge to civil aviation safety, covering both psychosocial risk management and mental health. The paper explores the impact that mental health in aviation currently has within civil aviation. The Royal Aeronautical Society’s Human Factors Wellbeing Working Group (HFW WG) paper highlights key areas of the civil aviation ‘eco-system’ that would be positively impacted by a coherent approach to managing and mitigating staff mental health and wellbeing. Poor mental health is now an acknowledged safety risk factor in civil aviation, from Germanwings in 2015 through to Alaska Airlines in 2023, the issue in the mental wellbeing of safety-critical staff has become an issue for the industry. One key question relating to this challenge is to what extent can the risk be monitored and quantified by means of the psychological assessment of safety-critical staff to inform safety management strategies. The view of the HFW WG is that an approach based on the information outlined in this paper could provide a positive ’tailwind’ for the industry addressing the challenges in the current environment. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the development of a response to the emerging recognition of the safety risk posed by the mental health and wellbeing of all civil aviation personnel. In addition, the paper provides recommendations and psychosocial risk management systems that can be implemented into current organisational structures to prevent the degradation of staff mental health and wellbeing. Marc Atheron MRAeS Chair of Human Factors Wellbeing Working Group said: “Events since 2015 have highlighted that the mental health and wellbeing of civil aviation staff is a growing issue in maintaining the impressive safety record and operational performance of the sector. The RAeS Mental Health and Wellbeing Working Group have been addressing the area since 2016, and we have produced a report which looks at the topic from the perspective of a developing a strategic approach to monitoring, managing, and mitigating the risks posed to both operations and individuals. The report includes evidence of the prevalence of mental health issues in safety critical groups, and an approach based on adapting existing and evolving policy and regulation around psychosocial risks in the workplace to the sector as a way forward. My personal hope is that this report contributes to the development of a positive culture of change that recognises and enhances the role played by, and the value of, the multitude of individuals who make the global sector the success it is.” Gerard Forlin KC ARAeS said:“It is a great honour to be involved in this very important paper with Marc and the other expert contributors. I have been involved globally in aviation and mental health as a lawyer for over ten years in over 80 countries, and have seen this concern becoming increasingly more urgent. It needs to be sorted immediately. This paper hopefully provides a more holistic approach to remedy this growing crisis rather than just attempting to put a plaster on an already concerning the situation. I thank the RAeS, Marc Atherton, the other contributors and everyone else I have met globally working on this topic.” RAeS Chief Executive David Edwards FRAeS said: “The civil aviation industry is shifting more focus onto the important topic of mental health, highlighted by the Germanwings and Alaska Airlines incidents. Whilst the industry is doing more to support staff who are already facing mental health issues, there remains a lack of psychosocial risk management systems to prevent the development of mental health issues in the first place. This Royal Aeronautical Society paper highlights several recommendations and systems that organisations can implement to help address this; we believe that this study will highlight the impact mental health has on the civil aviation industry and, with further support and willingness from organisations, allow it to become an important contributor in mental health psychosocial risk management.”
