In an article published last week on the CheapOair blogsite Miles Away ,the author sheds light on some of the bigger developments affecting travel in the next year, ranging from the changing requirements for European travel, into the future with a discussion on flying taxis.Trend 1: European Travel-Schengen and ETIAS The Schengen Area creates the largest visa-free travel zone in the world and comprises 26 European countries that have opened their borders to allow free travel among the various independent states. The European Travel Information and Authorization system, ETIAS, provides e-visas for travelers from outside the EU and Schengen areas. Trend 2: Real ID Scheduled for the spring of 2023, the official rollout of Real ID has been delayed until 2025. Why is the path to Real ID so long? Trend 3 : Bill of Rights for Disabled Passengers The Airline Passengers With Disabilities Bill of Rights has been around since 1986, but the US Department of Transportation recently issued a consolidated version to clarify what the Bill of Rights covers. Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Vehicles or eVTOLs are powered entirely by electricity and are being developed by innumerable start-ups around the world. Trend 5 : Authentic Travel As demand for travel grows, passengers are increasingly seeking an experience that is unique to their own personal tastes and areas of interest. One sought-after approach is for what is being called Authentic Travel. Advancing technology is providing the systems required to identify and experience locales at a deeper level. A variety of Apps are making it easier to create an authentic experience, providing support with local languages, guiding travelers to local eateries and identifying local events.

Akasa Air to add Hyderabad as the 13th destination on its network
Delhi,3rd January 2023: Akasa Air announced its entry into Telangana with the addition of Hyderabad as the 13th destination with flight starting from 25th Jan 2023 onward.The airline will offer daily flights on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Goa routes. Akasa Air announced Goa as its 12th destination in December 2022 connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai and now with this launch,the airline will offer six daily non-stop flights ex-Goa connecting three cities – Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

AAI is building Greenfield Airport at Hirasar in Rajkot
New Delhi, 04th January, 2023: To cater the growing population of the Fourth largest city in the state of Gujarat and increasing flow of air traffic in this region, Airports Authority of India has undertaken the work for construction of New Greenfield Airport at Rajkot in Gujarat. With the project cost of Rs. 1405 crores, the new airport is envisioned to be a transportation hub for people traveling abroad from the state. Spread over 1,025 hectares, a new greenfield airport has been developed with modern facilities and conveniences for the travellers. The location of the new airport is approximately 30 kms from Rajkot city and on Rajkot-Ahmadabad highway. With total built-up area of 23,000 sqm, the terminal building of this new airport will be capable to handle 1800 passengers during peak hours. The terminal of the airport will be equipped with state-of-the-art passenger facilities, four passenger boarding bridges, three conveyor belts and 20 check-in counters along with modern firefighting and fire alarm system. With 3040 m long runway, the airport will be capable to serveAirBus-321 type of aircraft and the apron will be suitable for parking of 14 aircraft.The city side area of the airport is also being developed for adequate parking facilities for car, taxi and buses along with landscaping The façade design of the terminal building is influenced from the existing Palaces of Rajkot like the Ranjit Vilas Palace, integrating traditional elements into a contemporary form. The terminal building will depict various art forms including dandiya dance through its dynamic external façade and splendid interiors. Rajkot is famous for its golden jewellery and filigree work and that has inspired the exterior panel work at drop-off area of city side kerb. Runway and other pavement works along with more than 95% of earth work have been completed.The work for terminal building is in progress and the airport will be ready for operations by December, 2023.

MEDIA REGISTRATION FOR AERO INDIA 2023 BEGINS
New Delhi, 23rd Dec 2022: The 14th edition of ‘Aero India 2023’ will be held at Air Force Station, Yelahanka, Bengaluru (Karnataka) from 13 to 17 February 2023. Registration begins today, 23 December 2022, for media personnel to visit the exhibition and is to be done online on the Aero India 2023 website at this link https://aeroindia.gov.in/registration/media-authentication-form. There is no fee for media registration. Foreign journalists who wish to cover the event would require to be in possession of a valid ‘J visa’. Registration will close on 07 Jan 23. Those who wish to register need the following:- A valid media identity card number, PIB/State accreditation card No.if accredited, and if not, Government issued photo ID card No. A photograph of file size less than 512 Kb. The five-day event will combine a major trade exhibition of the aerospace and defence industries as well as aerial display by IAF. Besides global leaders and big investors in aerospace industry, the show will also see participation by think-tanks from across the world. Aero India will provide a unique opportunity for exchange of information, ideas and new developments in the aviation industry. DGCA to amend its provisions to protect the rights of air travelers affected by downgrading of ticket.
New Delhi, 23rd Dec 2022: In view of rapid expansion of air services within India and on international routes to/from India and with the increase in the volume of passenger traffic, it has been noticed that sometimes Airlines downgrade passengers (tickets). For example when a passenger who has booked his ticket on first class, business class or premium economy, is downgraded to a lower class at the time of check-in due to various reasons like unserviceable seats, change of aircraft, overbooking, etc. In order to cater to such situations, DGCA is in the process of amending its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section-3, Series M Part IV “Facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights.” to protect the rights of air travelers affected by downgrading of their ticket. The amendment will allow the passenger, who is downgraded involuntarily from his booked class of ticket, to receive the full value of ticket including taxes as refund from the airline and the airline will carry the passenger free of cost in the next available class. However, this proposal will go through stakeholder consultation and the final regulation shall be published and made applicable afterwards.

Minister flags off Air India direct flight between Mumbai and San Francisco
New Delhi,15th Dec 2022: Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated a direct flight between Mumbai and San Francisco on 15th Dec 2022 through virtual medium.He said that the Civil Aviation Sector in India is on the cusp of a transformation. It only had 74 airports in the first 68 years of India’s independence which has now increased 145 including heliports and water aerodromes. There has been democratisation of the Civil Aviation in the country. From a very low base of close to 63 million travellers in 2013- 14, we have reached 144 million travellers in the year 2019- 20. Similar growth has been experienced from the international side as well. Minister urged Indian carriers to look at increasing international traffic and to get more wide-bodied aircraft to capture the long-haul route market which is currently dominated by international carriers. He also added that the government is in the discussion with major airlines to establish India’s first international hub in Delhi which will have multiplier effect on all sectors of the economy. The flight to be operated by Air India will function thrice weekly flights between Mumbai and San Francisco.

DIAL & Adone Events to launch Air Expo India in Nov 2023 in Delhi
New Delhi / December 15, 2022: Air Expo India, a brand new general and business aviation exhibition, will be hosted by Delhi International Airport (a GMR Airports Limited company) in November 2023 at Indira Gandhi International Airport.The show was officially launched in New Delhi on December 14th when DIAL and Adone Events signed a protocol agreement to organize the show. Air Expo India will take place over a three-day period. It will welcome exhibitors and delegates from Asia and the Middle East, representing local and international aerospace companies, owners, operators, suppliers, and media. An industry first, the show will house one of the biggest static displays of eVTOL and electric aircraft in support of India’s intent to become a manufacturing center for these aircraft, used primarily by the U.S. and Canadian military.Air Expo India is targeting a mix of general and business aviation exhibitors who will come together on a static area totalling 60,000 sqm. The space will accommodate more than 100 aircraft ranging in size from single and twin-engine models to turboprops and private jets. The show format will reflect the approach taken at Abu Dhabi Air Expo, France Air Expo and African Air Expo, also organised by Adone Events, which offers exhibits located next to the runway enabling manufacturers to present their whole range of aircraft.“I am honoured that DIAL has shown its confidence in Adone Events by agreeing to collaborate with us on this exciting new venture.
