ATM – UTM Solutions From HENSOLDT

HENSOLDT’s solutions enable military Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Civil Air Navigation Providers (ANSPs) to safely expand the use of their airspace and integrate Unmanned Airborne Vehicles by using the latest and most advanced ATM technology. HENSOLDT enables efficient Air Traffic Movement (ATM) – Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) airspace integration in both military and civil domains while ensuring robust flight safety by using latest technology products such as ASR-NG (ATC surveillance radar), TwInvis (passive radar surveillance) and Xpeller (Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems – CUAS). Our ATM – UTM solution enable green economy such as Wind Farm installation or/ and Hydrogen supported power generation while maintaining safe air traffic control and air space capacity. TwInvis – a non-emitting, non-cooperative surveillance radar – reduces the emissions and installation footprint while supporting an increased air situational awareness. In an Interview with Aviation World, Mr.Tarique Anwer, Director BD & Marketing, talks about the ATM and UTM Marketplans of HENSOLDT in India Can you please share more about ASR-NG Radar from HENSOLDT? The airspace worldwide is shared between civil and military users, between general aviation traffic and sports or leisure time aircraft. To avoid safety-crucial situations, state-of-the-art ATC radars have to deliver excellent detection performance, from the smallest aircraft like ultra-light gliders to the largest passenger airliner. Modern radars also have to be capable of differentiating between slow-moving rotary-wing aircraft and fast-moving military supersonic fighters without any significant blind speed gaps. ASR-NG can detect the smallest 0.5m² as well as 10.000m² targets with uppermost probability of detection. It offers exceptional no-blind speed coverage between 0 to 1.200 knots. ASR-NG is a multi-beam 3D S-Band solid-state approach control primary and secondary surveillance radar and en-route control sensor, fulfilling ICAO Annex 10 Volume III/IV and EUROCONTROL Surveillance Standard Requirements. The system implements a fully digital Doppler detection and tracking solution with flexible and self-learning clutter and site-optimisation capabilities. The ASR radars consist of an integrated primary and secondary radar system. The primary radar helps to detect non-cooperative objects such as small aircraft without transponders or hostile aircraft. It is based on a semiconductor transmitter and includes special signal processing techniques for wide-area surveillance and wind farm mitigation. The secondary radar, MSSR 2000 I, ensures the automatic identification of cooperative aircraft. What Differentiates HENSOLDT ASR-NG from other products in the market? In the rapidly growing presence of cluttered environment like one generated by wind farms or telecommunication interferences such as 4G/5G LTE mobile networks, it is of utmost importance for air traffic control radars to cope with those to keep on ensuring safety of ATC. While previous generations of ATC radars could not suppress false alarms originating from wind farms, ASR-NG provides highest detection, resolution and tracking performance by the use of its worldwide-first, concurrent, triple-beam processing and electronic beam forming capabilities. Its detection and tracking of small rotary-wing aircraft over wind farms is field-proven, witnessed by the UK Ministry of Defence. Using a third horn antenna feed the ASR-NG also provides a unique feature of 3D target detection. This third beam allows the measurement and calculation of altitudes of uncooperative targets such as aircraft with either no transponders or defect/disabled Identification Friend-Foe (IFF) signals – for instance during military exercises or flight operations. With nearly no preventive maintenance, the ASR-NG system has been designed for fully autonomous, unmanned and completely remotely controlled 24/7/365 operation. The transfer of maintenance knowledge to the customer or a preferred local partner serves as standard logistic support approach. Fixed-price support agreements and supply guarantees are provided for 25 years and more. Do you have a deployable version of AS-NG? A modular and scalable deployable ASR-NG, with the same superior performance was developed for civil and military ATC, being transportable by land, sea and air to be deployed all over the world. The deployable ASR-NG exploits the superior detection performance and accuracy of the stationary ASR-NG variant combined with small airlift footprint being air transportable in one transport aircraft and a deployment time of less than six hours. The versatility of our new product combined with ASR-NG’s superior performance makes it ideally suited for ATC purposes in joint and combined missions of expeditionary units. The deployable ASR-NG has been already contracted by a European NATO member and has finished its first acceptance tests during delivery. This ATC proven technology will enable the Customer to provide state of the art ATC services to their forces using the deployable ASR-NG for example during out of area missions. What is the TwINVIS Radar ? The TwInvis is a multistatic coherent passive radar that supports the airspace surveillance and enables a detection of up to 200 aircraft in 3D within a radius of 250 km in a non-cooperative scenario without any emission and without the need of a transponder onboard of the aircraft. An air situation picture is generated by analyzing reflected signals from existing third-party sources such as radio and TV stations and provides additional primary radar information to the air traffic controllers with an update rate of 1 second. Can you tell something more on the UTM and Counter UAS Solution of Hensoldt? Our Xpeller counter – UAS Solution provides protection from the ever-increasing threat posed by drones, both in the military and the civil sector. Xpeller uses a combination of sensors to detect track, track and classify many different types of drones and assess its threat potential at ranges from a few hundred meters up to several kilometers. If it’s a serious threat, it can be then countered by choosing the appropriate countermeasures. In addition, the Xpeller can be the back bone of a future UTM system providing non cooperative surveillance to ensure no disruption of future traffic drones that may occur due to rogue operations. What are your plans for India Market? India is a vast country with challenging geography. We are also aware of India’s uncompromising focus on self-reliance through the “Make in India” initiative. Our proposed approach is to offer complete products and solutions to Indian customers. Through a

EXPLORER design study opens up new themed worlds for VIP cabins

Dubai Airshow News/AW Digital At the upcoming Dubai Airshow, Lufthansa Technik AG will present further details of its new wide-body VIP cabin concept EXPLORER. After a sneak preview at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, numerous further details will now be on display at the aerospace trade fair in the United Arab Emirates. These include features that, thanks to the latest technology, can already be realized in an appealing and high-quality manner. The EXPLORER design concept is based on the current trend for superyachts that fulfill two wishes for their owners: To take them almost anywhere at any time and to serve them at their destination as an individual hotel and base camp for a wide variety of leisure activities and excursions. Lufthansa Technik’s specialists have chosen the Airbus A330 as the platform for realizing these customer wishes in private aviation. As a classic wide-body aircraft, it offers sufficient space for a large number of novel cabin ideas and also a sufficient range to fulfill the special wishes of the EXPLORER target group. “In yacht building, multifunctional exploration vessels have now become a class in their own right. And many owners of such vessels also call an aircraft their own,” explained Wieland Timm, Head of Sales VIP & Special Mission Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik. “For this fast-growing target group of VIP world explorers, we have therefore now created a flying platform for the first time. Unlike a yacht, however, our EXPLORER aircraft allows passengers to travel to the other side of the globe within hours and set up their own individual base camp for further activities. This opens up completely new possibilities for explorers.” Close cooperation with Diehl enables large-scale projections of virtual content A particularly striking feature of the EXPLORER concept is the large-scale integrated projection system for virtual content, which extends from the window belt to almost the entire cabin ceiling in the multifunctional lounge area. Although similar features have often been seen in design studies, there has been no suitable technology to implement them in a way that is both aesthetically convincing and certifiable, until now. In close cooperation with Diehl Aerospace – a joint venture between Diehl Aviation and Thales – the experts at Lufthansa Technik have now succeeded in building the decisive bridge to the large-scale realization of such virtual cabin elements. To this end, Lufthansa Technik’s design team integrated Diehl’s projection technology and tailored it specifically to the use in a VIP cabin. By cleverly positioning the small, lightweight and passively cooled November 11, 2021 Dubai Airshow Page 2 of 4 projectors into the sidewall and ceiling elements, large-scale virtual impressions are created, the content of which customers can configure individually according to their wishes with the help of a corresponding software solution from Diehl. “By integrating the unique projection system of Diehl, we have created an interior that exploits the technology`s full potential for a VIP cabin,” said Michael Bork, Aircraft Interior Architect in VIP & Special Mission Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik. “It is optimized under technical and aesthetic aspects to provide an adequate framework for bringing a variety of atmospheres and virtual worlds to life, changing the overall look of the cabin by a fingertip.“ The first short teaser shown in Monaco already featured a breathtaking and animated underwater world in this way. The ideas of Lufthansa Technik’s design team for this cabin feature go far beyond that, however: from virtual day and night skies to architectural forms and even a flying discotheque, the most diverse or even constantly changing configurations are possible. The design team has also thought of an aesthetically pleasing idle state with inactive projectors. “When designing an Airbus A330 as a versatile EXPLORER tool – whether for private owners or also for charter agencies for this type of travel – we paid particular attention to feasibility. Therefore, our experts have already developed detailed implementation proposals for many technical features and innovations,” said Jan Grube, Sales Director in VIP & Special Mission Aircraft Services. “A great example is the cooperation with Diehl on large-scale projections. Here we were able to fulfill a long-held wish, so we are very grateful for this outstanding cooperation.” Retractable veranda enables EXPLORER audience to make completely new discoveries Another feature that allows EXPLORER passengers to make completely new discoveries is the floor in the forward fuselage area, which extends outward from the parked aircraft to form a spacious veranda. The main deck cargo hatch on the Airbus A330 freighter, which is now also available as a retrofit solution for passenger versions, opens up the EXPLORER interior to its surroundings, into which passengers can then immerse themselves directly via a platform that can be extended by several meters. Here, too, the EXPLORER concept is based on the yacht category that already bears this name. These ships have precisely these retractable elements to give their passengers even more direct contact with the environment. At a height of around four meters above the apron, passengers of the EXPLORER aircraft are thus offered a unique view of the surroundings and at the airport that acts as a base camp for further discoveries and excursions, for example using the vehicles carried on board. Future BRABUS Mobility Lounge will showcase automotive treasures and exploration vehicles To ensure that the VIPs’ vehicle fleet can be attractively presented to guests and fellow passengers, the Lufthansa Technik team envisions a special Mobility Lounge in the aft section of the lower deck, which can November 11, 2021 Dubai Airshow Page 3 of 4 already be viewed from the main deck through a glass floor. This special area will be created in cooperation with BRABUS, one of the leading manufacturers of high-performance and luxury automobiles, and will be jointly presented at one of the upcoming trade shows. Via a convenient staircase, the Luxury Mobility Lounge will be easily accessible to passengers from the main deck, even during the flight. It will also cater to the technical needs of the automotive treasures carried
