International Defence Conference 2025 to kick off alongside IDEX and NAVDEX

Abu Dhabi: 6 Jan 2025: The International Defence Conference (IDC) 2025 will take place on 16 February under the theme “Defence Reimagined: Innovation, Integration and Resilience”, coinciding with the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) and Naval Defence & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2025, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Organized by ADNEC Group in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Defense and in collaboration with the Tawazun Council, IDC serves as a global platform bringing together key decision makers, experts, and leaders from around the world. The event aims to promote collaboration among nations, institutions, and defence companies by discussing key global issues and threats and presenting innovative solutions to overcome future challenges. The conference will feature three key sessions including “Global Disruptions and Defence Preparedness: Mitigating Threats to Critical Supply Chains,” “Disinformation and Influence Operations: The Weaponization of Information in Modern Conflicts,” and “Space: The New Arena for Defense and Security.” The first session will begin with an opening address that discusses the importance of fostering international collaboration and developing innovative defense solutions to address global challenges. It will explore the unprecedented challenges posed by global disruptions, including geopolitical tensions, natural disasters, cyberattacks, and pandemics. Furthermore, the speech will focus on enhancing the resilience of critical supply chains for defense and national security through collaboration between governments and various sectors. The role of technological innovations introduced by startups in strengthening the stability of the supply chains will also be discussed. The first session will examine the current challenges facing global supply chains and the proactive measures required to anticipate and manage disruptions effectively. It will also highlight the role of the defense sector in safeguarding critical supply chains, the importance of technological innovation and startups in strengthening defense and national security, strategies for building collaborative international networks to reduce risks, and lessons learned from recent global supply chain crises. Titled “Disinformation and Influence Operations: The Weaponization of Information in Modern Conflicts,” the second session will explore tactics of misinformation, the role of artificial intelligence in developing disinformation campaigns, and their impact on the stability of societies and political systems in an era where technology intersects with politics, making information a powerful tool of conflict. The session will also review various methods of misinformation used by states and non-governmental entities, the impact of artificial intelligence and deepfakes on disinformation campaigns, the ethical dimensions of using information as a weapon, the role of social media platforms in spreading misinformation, and strategies for detecting and countering disinformation. It will also examine the importance of collaboration between governments, the private sector, and civil society organizations to build a resilient information environment. The third session, titled “Space: The New Arena for Defense and Security”, will address the growing importance of space in defense and modern warfare. The session will focus on the increasing attention given to the threats and opportunities in this crowded, competitive, and contested domain, as the world is currently experiencing rapid changes in the strategic space environment, marked by a significant rise in satellite launches and the use of commercial satellites in actual combat operations. The session will outline the importance of developing new technologies for Space Situational Awareness (SSA), missile defense, secure satellite communications, and enhancing resilient space assets. In contrast, counter-space capabilities, designed to disrupt and penetrate the use of space services, pose significant threats to military operations. The session will also delve into the importance of nations establishing space forces, leadership, strategies, policies, and alliances. The International Defense Conference will discuss key current issues related to space and defense, focusing on emerging threats to space systems, opportunities to enhance resilience, developments in new technologies, the crucial role of the private sector, and the need for space alliances. Featuring high-level international participation, IDC will host prominent international figures in defense, economics, and technology, including Dr. Yossi Sheffi, Director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics, along with senior military leaders from various nations. The event will conclude with a dedicated session presenting strategic recommendations to shape the framework for future defense programs.

Air India announces 2025 network updates for International routes

Gurugram, 16 Dec 2024: Air India has announced significant updates to its international route network starting 2025. The changes will see Air India deploy its best aircraft to key gateways in Southeast Asia and Europe, complementing the deployment of its flagship A350 and B777 with upgraded cabin interiors on multiple U.S. and UK routes earlier. The updates also lead to optimised flight schedules for key international routes to offer greater flexibility to travellers as well as to enable seamless intercontinental travel between North America or Europe and Australia or Southeast Asiavia Air India’s hubs in Delhi and Mumbai. Retrofitted A320neo on Delhi-Bangkok route Air India will deploy its retrofitted A320neo on all flights between Delhi and Bangkok from 16 January 2025. The retrofitted aircraft feature fully refreshed interiors across three classes: Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class.Vista Stream, Air India’s complimentary wireless inflight entertainment (IFE) streaming service, is available on these aircraft for travellers to access 1600+ hours of rich entertainment content on their personal electronic devices. Air India will also begin operating a fourth daily Delhi-Bangkok service from 01 January 2025, increasing frequency on the route from three times daily. The new service leads to evenly spaced departures to and from Bangkok throughout the day, offering both business and leisure travellers more choice. The increased frequency connects Bangkok to several destinations in North America and Europe via Air India’s hub in Delhi. Travellers from cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Toronto, Vancouver, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, and Amsterdam can take seamless one-stop flights to Bangkok via Delhi and vice-versa. Upgraded interiors on flights to Frankfurt and Singapore Air India also announced the deployment of the erstwhile VistaraA321neo and B787-9 aircraft on the following routes: • Delhi-Frankfurt and Mumbai-Frankfurt: Now operating on B787-9 • Delhi-Singapore:Once daily on B787-9 and twice daily on A321neo (from 01 January 2025) • Mumbai-Singapore: Twice daily on A321neo(from 01 January 2025) This optimised fleet deployment will provide the latest generation cabin interiors, including fully flat beds in Business Class and the consistent availability of Premium Economy on these routes.Air India is amongst the few airlines in Asia to offer fully flat beds on its single-aisle A321neo aircraft in Business Class.These A321neo and B787-9 aircraft offer an immersive inflight entertainment experience on HD screens across cabins as well as WiFi internet connectivity on board. Travellers to and from Singapore can also conveniently connect to various destinations in the United States, Canada, and Europe via Delhi or Mumbai. Optimized schedules for Frankfurt, Paris, Sydney, and Melbourne flights Effective 01 February 2025, Air India has optimised the schedule of its flights on the Delhi-Frankfurt and Delhi-Paris routes. The new flight times now offer both daytime and nighttime departures on each route in both directions, providing greater flexibility to travellers.Air India has also retimed its daily flights on the Delhi-Sydney and Delhi-Melbourne routes to enable seamless two-way connectivity between Europe and Australia or points in Southeast Asia via Delhi. This means travellers from London, Paris, and Frankfurt can now easily take one-stop connections to Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, and to points like Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Chi Minh City in Southeast Asia via Delhi.

BIAS 2024 launches with royal opening, aircraft debuts and international attendance

Bahrain,Nov. 14th 2024: The seventh edition of Bahrain International Airshow was officially inaugurated on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa by the Deputy King, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at Sakhir Air Base which was held under the patronage of His Majesty the King. Announcements came from a range of businesses in attendance across the show. Today Valo Aviation has become the Kingdom’s inaugural business jet operator after receiving its Bahraini Air Operators Certificate (AOC), with the aim to manage 15 aircraft within the next two years from its home base of Manama. IronNet, the AI-based collective defense cybersecurity company, and Asterion, a leader in counter-UAS technology, also announced today at the Bahrain International Airshow a partnership on the protection of critical infrastructure through the integration of AI-based cybersecurity and counter-UAS solutions. Over 125 different types of aircraft are being showcased, providing visitors the opportunity to experience them close up, before a curated flying display of assets and aerobatic teams takes to the sky to demonstrate the latest innovations and technologies in the industry. flydubai makes its debut at the Bahrain International Airshow

Dubai,13 November 2024: flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, makes its debut at the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2024, taking place between 13 and 15 November at the Sakhir Airbase in Manama. The carrier will showcase the retrofitted cabin interiors on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring its flagship lie-flat seats in Business Class. Visitors on day one and day two of the show will be able to experience the new onboard cabin interior which is now available across the majority of flydubai’s fleet, providing customers with a more consistent and elevated travel experience. Commenting on flydubai’s participation in the Bahrain International Airshow, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “The Bahrain International Airshow is an important event that highlights the advancements and innovations within the aviation industry in the region. We are excited to be here for the first time underscoring our commitment to the Bahraini market which we have been proudly serving since 2009. This Airshow represents an opportunity for us to showcase our newly retrofitted cabin interior and reflects our commitment to passenger comfort, integrating cutting-edge technology and design to elevate the flying experience.” The multimillion dollar retrofit programme was launched earlier in 2024. The carrier has retrofitted 15 Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year and will complete the retrofit on two more aircraft before the end of the year. The programme will continue into 2025 which will see the airline complete the retrofit on up to 20 aircraft in its fleet, providing its passengers with a consistent and enhanced experience across its fleet. flydubai’s retrofitted cabin interior also features exceptional inflight entertainment in Economy Class with a full HD, 11.6-inch screen, with a wide selection of movies, TV shows, music and games in English, Arabic and Russian. Bahrain is an important market for flydubai where the carrier operated more than 2,800 flights between January and October this year. The carrier first started operating to the market in 2009 and has carried more than four million passengers between Dubai and Bahrain to date. The carrier currently operates 31 weekly flights between Dubai and Bahrain and continues to see strong demand on the route. Today flydubai has built a growing network of more than 125 destinations in 55 countries across Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Central and Southeast Europe, the GCC and the Middle East, South Asia as well as Southeast Asia. The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .

There are features on Regional connectivity and MoCA revised rules on the UDAN 2.0 and how its going to transform the flying experience within India.
