Peter Foster to retire as CEO of Air Astana JSC by March 2026

Almaty,8th October 2025: The Board of Directors of Air Astana JSC has announced that Peter Foster will retire from the position of Chief Executive Officer and from the Board of Directors of Air Astana JSC at the end of March 2026. Peter Foster will remain connected to the Group in the role of Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors. Ibrahim Canliel, Chief Financial Officer, is to be appointed Chief Executive Officer at that time. The Chairman of the Board of Directors Nurlan Zhakupov stated as follows, “The Board of Directors would like to thank Peter Foster for his outstanding achievement in guiding the company for 20 years, from its post start-up phase to its position today as Kazakhstan and Central Asia’s leading airline, and a respected airline brand throughout the global aviation industry. The Board would like to welcome Ibrahim Canliel to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Mr Canliel has worked for the Air Astana Group since 2003, initially in senior commercial roles and subsequently as Chief Financial Officer, a post he has held since 2017. His contribution has been immense and he brings with him great experience of both the Group and of the airline industry. The Board has the fullest confidence that he will guide the company to continued growth and success.”

Air India Express announces launch of multiple new flights from Delhi

Delhi, 6 October 2025: Air India Express has announced the launch of multiple new direct flights from Delhi. Starting 26th October 2025, the airline will operate direct services from Delhi to Goa(Dabolim),Imphal, Lucknow,and Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), followed by Amritsar on 28th October 2025 and the introduction of new routes to Jodhpur and Udaipur from 1st November 2025. The new flights are part of the airline’s continued focus on enhancing direct connectivity from major metropolitan cities to other cities in South Asia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

DGCA reviews airfare trends ahead of festive season rush

New Delhi, 6th October 2025: Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is mandated by Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to keep a watch on airfares, especially during the festive season and take appropriate measures in case of a surge in prices. Accordingly, the DGCA proactively took up the issue/matter with airlines and asked them to augment flight capacities for the festive season by deploying additional flights to meet high demand. In response, airlines informed that they are adding the following additional flights:- IndiGo: Deployment of approx. 730 additional flights across 42 sectors. Air India & Air India Express: Deployment of approx. 486 additional flights across 20 sectors. SpiceJet: Deployment of approx. 546 additional flights across 38 sectors. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will maintain rigorous oversight of airline fares and flight capacities to protect passengers’ interests during the festive season.

Air India group relocates selected domestic flights operations from IGI T1 and T2

New Delhi, 03 October 2025: Air India group today announced adjustments to its domestic operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to the ongoing expansion activities at Terminal 3 (T3) by Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) to augment international passenger capacity. The terminal enlargement works will reduce domestic capacity at T3, necessitating the relocation of certain domestic operations of Air India and Air India Express, effective 26 October 2025. Air India will relocate 60 of its 180 daily domestic departures out of Delhi to the upgraded Terminal 2 (T2). Concurrently, Air India Express will move all its domestic operations to the newly renovated and upgraded Terminal 1 (T1). All international flights of Air India and Air India Express will continue to operate from T3 Delhi Airport. How one can identify Air India flights to/from T2 Air India’s domestic flights departing from or arriving at T2 have been renumbered in four digits, starting with ‘1’ (e.g., AI1737, AI1787). This clear distinction will help travellers to easily identify that their flight operates from/to T2. Inter-terminal transfers for guests Air India or Air India Express guests with connections, carrying boarding passes for their onward flights will be provided inter-terminal transfers between T1, T2, and T3. This service applies to connections between Air India flights, Air India Express flights, and on applicable codeshare connections. Any through-checked baggage for these guests will be seamlessly transferred airside, eliminating the need to collect and recheck baggage during terminal transfers. For all guests requiring transfers between T1, T2 and T3, Delhi International Airport provides a convenient shuttle service running every 10 minutes, ensuring quick and easy connectivity between the terminals. Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and those requiring special assistance can also opt for a comfortable buggy ride between T2 and T3.

India re-elected to ICAO Council with stronger mandate

Montreal, 3rd October 2025: India has been re-elected to the Part II of the Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized UN agency. Part II comprises of States making the largest contribution to the provision of facilities for international civil air navigation. The election took place on 27 September 2025, during the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session, being held in Montreal. India secured more votes as compared to the 2022 elections, reflecting the growing confidence among Member States in its leadership and commitment to international civil aviation. Earlier, on 2nd September 2025, the Ministry of Civil Aviation hosted a reception for Ambassadors and High Commissioners in New Delhi ahead of the 42nd ICAO assembly session. On this occasion, Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Rammohan Naidu had sought the support of Member States for India’s candidature for re-election for the 2025-2028 term. Supporting this effort, the Ministry of External Affairs, through continuous engagement with other member states, reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to the objectives of ICAO. The MEA’s diplomatic outreach strengthened India’s campaign for the ICAO Council elections. The Representative of India (ROI) at ICAO headquarters also actively canvassed support for India’s re-election. During his visit to Montreal, Minister Shri Rammohan Naidu also held bilateral meetings with other Member States and engaged with global aviation industry stakeholders. As one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, India has attracted keen interest from global players in areas such as aircraft component manufacturing, MRO and skill development. A founding member of ICAO since 1944, India has maintained an uninterrupted presence on the Council for 81 years. It continues to play a pivotal role in advancing ICAO’s mission to promote safe, secure, sustainable, harmonized, and gender-inclusive international civil aviation. India is actively engaged in policy development, regulatory frameworks, and international aviation standards. The ICAO Assembly, convened every three years, is the organization’s sovereign body, comprising all 193 signatory States to the Chicago Convention. The 36-member ICAO Council, elected by the 193 Member States during the Assembly, serves as the governing body for a three-year term. Gulf Air relaunches direct flights to New York

Muharraq, Bahrain – October 02, 2025: Gulf Air has relaunched its direct flights from Bahrain International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York.This move also highlights the commitment of both countries to strengthening ties and strategic partnership, opening up new horizons for developing relations in various commercial, cultural, and tourism sectors. Embraer reports 62 aircraft delivered by Q3, surpassing 3Q24 mark

São Paulo, October 2, 2025: Embraer has delivered 62 aircraft in 3Q 25 as the result represented a marginal improvement compared to 2Q25 and 3Q24, when 61 and 59 jets were delivered, respectively. During 3Q25, 20 new commercial jets were delivered – more than half of them (11) were E195-E2 models, Embraer’s largest aircraft currently in production in the segment. In the period, the Commercial Aviation business unit outperformed 2Q25 as well as 3Q24, which recorded 19 and 16 deliveries, respectively. Embraer Executive Jets recorded 41 deliveries, compared with 38 jets delivered in 2Q25 and 41 in 3Q24. The highlight of the quarter was the Phenom 300, the fastest light jet in production and market leader for 13 consecutive years, with 20 units delivered. In Defense & Security, the company delivered 1 unit of its multi-mission military transport aircraft, the KC-390 Millennium, completing the overall total of 62 deliveries by the company in the quarter. Embraer’s deliveries estimates for the year are between 77 and 85 in Commercial Aviation in 2025 (midpoint 10% above year-over-year), and 145 to 155 jets in Executive Aviation (midpoint 15% above year-over-year).

Udan Yatri Cafe inaugurated at Vijayawada Int. Airport

Vijaywada, 30th Sept 2025: The Udan Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada International Airport was inaugurated by Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapau today in the presence of Kesineni Sivanath, Member of Parliament, Vijayawada; Dr Sharad Kumar, Member (Operations), AAI; Dr H Srinivas, Member (HR), AAI and senior officials from AAI. The Udan Yatri Cafe will play a crucial role in enhancing the passenger experience by offering affordable, and quality food & beverages, including tea priced at Rs.10/-, coffee/snacks/sweets at Rs.20/-. With the inauguration of this facility, Vijayawada International Airport becomes the 7th airport (and 6th AAI airport) after Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Hollongi. During his inaugural address, Minister of Civil Aviation emphasized that the Udan Yatri Cafe initiative would ensure that no air passenger would travel with an unfilled stomach. He further announced that more Udan Yatri Cafes would be established at airports across the country in a phased manner. The HMCA also provided crucial update on the future developments at Vijayawada International Airport. He mentioned that the construction of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) is in progress and is expected to be completed within the next few months. Upon completion, the new terminal will significantly increase passenger serving capacity. He further assured that a new international flight connection from Vijayawada to Singapore will be launched soon, and that new domestic routes to Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Pune would be established in the near future. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ initiative, a sapling was also planted by the Minister of Civil Aviation in the cityside of the airport.

Etihad Airways returns to Zanzibar with summer flights

Abu Dhabi,30 September 2025: Etihad Airways is relaunching its seasonal flights to Zanzibar, the Indian Ocean’s legendary spice island.From 14 June until 6 September 2026, Etihad will operate four weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Zanzibar, giving travellers the perfect gateway to palm-fringed beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant Swahili culture. Zanzibar becomes Etihad’s 30th destination announced this year, reinforcing the airline’s ambitious global expansion. The decision to return has been facilitated by Etihad’s larger and more complete European network, with multiple double-daily services now feeding Abu Dhabi. Centrum Air to launch Delhi- Tashkent service from Oct. 3 onwards

Delhi, 26 Sept 2026: Uzbek airline Centrum Air has announced the launch of direct scheduled flights to Delhi, India from October 3, 2025 onwards. The flight service will operate twice weekly on Airbus A320aircraft. Flight schedule (local time) Tuesday and Friday Tashkent 06:55 – Delhi 10:55 Delhi 12:10 – Tashkent 14:50 Abdulaziz Abdurakhmanov, Founder and CEO of Centrum Air,said, “For us, this route is not only about new opportunities but also a significant contribution to strengthening ties between our countries. India represents tourism, business, healthcare, and culture. With this direct connection, Centrum Air brings our citizens and neighboring countries closer to one of the region’s most important partners.” Convenient transit options Passengers from other cities and countries will also be able to use the new route via Tashkent. The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .

There are features on Regional connectivity and MoCA revised rules on the UDAN 2.0 and how its going to transform the flying experience within India.
