Etihad Cargo strengthens connectivity with expanded winter belly-hold capacity

Abu Dhabi, 22nd August 2025: Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has announced an expanded winter schedule that will significantly increase belly-hold cargo capacity and enhance connectivity across its global network. The updated schedule introduces new routes to Hanoi, Hong Kong and Taipei, strengthening the carrier’s operations in Asia and providing greater access to some of the world’s fastest-growing cargo markets. To meet strong demand, Etihad Cargo will benefit from increased frequencies to a number of existing destinations, including Lisbon, Manchester, Warsaw, Atlanta and Bangkok, further reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role as a leading global logistics hub. Between November 2025 and March 2026, Etihad Airways will progressively launch services to 16 new destinations, including Addis Ababa, Algiers, Almaty, Baku, Bucharest, Chiang Mai, Kazan, Krabi, Medan, Medina, Phnom Penh, Tashkent, Tbilisi and Yerevan. Stanislas Brun, Chief Cargo Officer, Etihad Cargo, said: “Our customers remain at the core of our strategy. This expanded winter schedule offers greater access to Etihad Cargo’s global network, providing more capacity, flexibility and reliable connections. Whether moving goods between continents or enabling rapid regional transport, we are committed to supporting industries with world-class cargo solutions.” The expanded winter schedule underscores Etihad Cargo’s role in driving trade flows between Abu Dhabi and key international markets. With increased frequencies and new destinations, the carrier is poised to support industries that depend on fast, reliable and efficient cargo services. By October 2025, Etihad Cargo will provide belly-hold capacity on over 880 passenger flights each week, rising to more than 1,000 flights weekly by March 2026, further strengthening global connectivity and customer choice.

FLY91 adds extra fights on Pune-Sindhudurg-Pune route

Panaji, August18th 2025: To cater to the surge in festive season-inspired travel demand during Ganesh Chaturthi across Maharashtra,regional airline FLY91 has announced additional flights on its popular Pune-Sindhudurg-Pune route. On the Pune-Sindhudurg-Pune route, additional flights have been introduced for August 24 and 29, August 31, and September 5 and 7, to handle the increased festive rush. Tickets for these flights are now available for booking on the airline’s website. Manoj Chacko, managing director and chief executive officer of FLY91, said, “Ganesh Chaturthi is a special time for our customers, with many travelling to be with family and friends. By adding extra flights on our Pune-Sindhudurg-Pune route, we aim to give passengers greater flexibility and more options during this festive period. These destinations are key to our regional network and we remain committed to offering comfortable and reliable last-mile connectivity.” Earlier this month, FLY91 also deployed additional flights to facilitate the Independence Day travel rush, adding services on August 14, 15 and 18 across the Pune-Goa-Pune and Pune-Sindhudurg-Pune sectors. Saudia transports over 17.5 mn guests in first half of 2025

Jeddah, August 13, 2025: Saudia has achieved growth in its operational performance for the first half of 2025, based to the latest performance report. The airline carried more than 17.5 million guests, marking a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was supported by the operation of over 100,000 flights, including scheduled and additional services across its extensive network spanning four continents, representing a 4% increase. In total, Saudia recorded more than 293,500 flight hours during this period, while maintaining an exceptional on-time performance rate (OTP) of 89.6%. Notably, the airline ranked first worldwide for OTP in both March and June 2025, according to reports issued by Cirium, a leading global aviation analytics provider. As part of its mission to bring the world to the Kingdom, Saudia transported over 9.6 million international guests in the first half of 2025, marking a 5% increase year-on-year. The increase was supported by the operation of more than 43,700 international flights, representing a 3% rise compared to the same period last year. On the domestic front, Saudia transported more than 7.9 million guests, reflecting a 10% increase, with over 56,400 domestic flights operated across the Kingdom. These achievements reflect the dedication and expertise of Saudia’s national workforce across all sectors, particularly in operations, planning, execution, and performance monitoring. The airline’s focus on enhancing quality and operational efficiency has been further strengthened through strategic investments in advanced digital systems, resulting in an improved guest experience. Saudia’s current fleet of 148 aircraft underpins its strong operational performance across both domestic and international networks. Looking ahead, the planned addition of 117 new aircraft in the coming years will enable the airline to increase flight frequencies, expand seat capacity on existing routes, and introduce new international destinations. These advancements reinforce the Kingdom’s national priorities in tourism, entertainment, sports, and Hajj and Umrah services.

Akasa Air to start flights to Phuket as its 6th international destination 

Delhi, 12 August 2025: Akasa Air has announced the addition of Phuket as the sixth international destination to its network. Starting September 20, 2025, the airline will operate daily direct flights connecting Mumbai with Phuket. Air India commences retrofit programme for widebody fleet and accelerates retrofit of narrowbody fleet

New Delhi, 10th August 2025: Air India has announced updates on its US$ 400 million fleet retrofit programme reinforcing its commitment to delivering a world-class flying experience and enhancing operational reliability across its legacy fleet. Widebody Retrofit Programme Underway Air India has commenced the widebody retrofit programme for its legacy B787-8 aircraft, with the first of 26 aircraft (VT-ANT) having flown to a Boeing facility in Victorville, California (United States) in July 2025. A second aircraft is scheduled to depart for the same facility in October 2025, with both expected to return to service in December 2025. The retrofit programme for Air India’s B787-8s, now on a steady schedule for completion by mid-2027, will introduce brand-new interiors featuring a three-class configuration with Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class seats. This includes the installation of brand-new seats in each cabin, advanced inflight entertainment (IFE) systems, new carpeting, curtains, upholstery, lavatories, galleys and more – all aligned with the new Air India product and customer experience standards. Starting in early 2027, Air India will additionally retrofit 13 of its legacy Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, aiming for completion by October 2028, with the timeline having shifted due to supply chain delays. Reliability Enhancement Programme for Legacy B787-8 As part of a Reliability Enhancement Programme, Air India will be upgrading the avionics and other critical components of the 26 legacy B787-8 aircraft up to the latest industry standards, thus improving their reliability. The programme entails the analysis of maintenance and configuration records for these aircraft, followed by the implementation of recommended modifications based on Boeing’s service information bulletins. This is intended to reduce operational disruptions for both, Air India and its customers. Additionally, seven of the 26 B787-8s will undergo heavy, scheduled maintenance (D-checks) at Victorville, ensuring the fleet’s long-term operational excellence.

Inaugural India-New Zealand Defence Strategic Dialogue held in New Delhi

Delhi, 6th August 2025: The inaugural edition of India-New Zealand Defence Strategic Dialogue was held in New Delhi to discuss security perspectives and further bolster bilateral cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Defence, India Shri Amitabh Prasad and Head of International Branch, Ministry of Defence, New Zealand Ms Kathleen Pearce. Both nations expressed satisfaction at the ongoing defence cooperation and identified means to enhance the existing areas of collaboration, especially in the fields of training, capability building, defence industry, maritime security and multinational cooperation. The co-chairs also articulated steps in the direction of emerging areas of cooperation and issues pertaining to global commons. The Indian side complimented New Zealand for its successful command of CTF-150 in which five Indian Navy personnel were also deputed as staff. Both sides also discussed ways to build up ongoing White Shipping Information Exchange towards enhancement of information sharing. India-New Zealand Defence Strategic Dialogue was constituted under an MoU signed between the two countries in March 2025, a significant milestone in intensifying defence relations. India and New Zealand engagements span a wide spectrum of cooperation – political, defence and security collaboration, capacity building and education. These developments reflect mutual trust, shared democratic values, the deep-rooted people-to-people ties and a mutual love for cricket that binds both nations. The bilateral ties gained momentum with the visit of the President of India to New Zealand in August 2024, and bilateral meeting between the Prime Ministers in March 2025. Air India Express launches ‘flash sale’

Delhi, 4th August 2025: Air India Express has launched a limited-period ‘Flash Sale’ across its domestic network. Logged-in members can book Xpress Lite fares starting from Rs.1,299 (with zero check-in baggage) and Xpress Value fares from Rs. 1,499. Travellers can book their flights on these attractive fares through the airline’s website and mobile app. The discounted fares for domestic flights are valid for bookings made until 7th August 2025. These fares are applicable for travel between 11th August and 21st September 2025. The airline offers Zero Convenience Fees on Xpress Lite bookings made with select payment methods on the airline’s website and mobile app. Xpress Lite fares also offer added benefits, including the option to pre-book an additional 3 kg of cabin baggage at no cost and discounted check-in baggage rates – ₹1,000 for 15 kg on domestic flights and Rs.1,300 for 20 kg on international flights.

He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.
