Operation Sindoor : Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strike at terrorist camps

Delhi, 7th MAy 2025: Today midnight, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted. Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution. These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. Source: PIB

Air India suspends its Tel Aviv flight operations

Delhi,5th May , 2025: Air India in an official statement informed that consequent to developments in Tel Aviv , our operations to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended with immediate effect till 6th May 2025, to ensure the safety of our customers and staff. Our colleagues on ground are assisting customers and helping them with alternative arrangements. Customers booked on our flights with valid tickets between 4th and 6th May 2025 will be offered a one-time waiver on rescheduling or full refunds for cancellation. On 4th May morning, following the Houthi missile strike, an Air India flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv was diverted to Abu Dhabi, which was safely landed and in process to return to Delhi. On Sunday, a ballistic missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen struck near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport after multiple interception attempts by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) failed. The missile attack prompted a temporary halt in all takeoffs and landings at the country’s main international airport.

Raksha Mantri to hold bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart in New Delhi

New Delhi, 5th May 2025: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will hold a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of Defense Mr Gen Nakatani in New Delhi on May 05, 2025. Both sides will exchange views and ideas on the current regional & international security situation and discuss ways to further deepen the bilateral defence cooperation. India and Japan share a long-term friendship, which has further gained qualitative momentum after the elevation of this collaboration to Special Strategic & Global Partnership in 2014. Defence and security are important pillars of the ties between the two countries. Defence exchanges between India and Japan have gained strength in recent years due to the growing convergence on strategic matters. Its significance is increasing from the common outlook on issues of peace, security and stability of the Indo-Pacific Region. This will be the second meeting between the two Defence Ministers within six months after their maiden interaction in November 2024 on the sidelines of ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus at Lao PDR.

ideaForge receives DGCA certification for Remote Pilot Certificate Training Program

Mumbai, 5th May, 2025: ideaForge Technology Limited has been granted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) certification to conduct its Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) Training (Small Class) program today. The ideaForge Remote Pilot Certificate Training (Small Class) is a 5-day program designed to meet DGCA’s regulatory standards, addressing the evolving needs of drone operators across the country. Speaking on the certification, Amol Suryawanshi, Senior Director-Operations, ideaForge, said, “We are honoured to have received the certification from DGCA to conduct our RPC program. The certification marks a step forward in our mission to build best in class drone pilots who are able to efficiently utilize drone technology to achieve the desired outcomes based on drone use cases. These initiatives also support India’s goal of being a global drone hub by 2030. This initiative is designed to set the benchmark for UAV training standards. As newer technologies get introduced in drone ecosystems like BVLOS, Autonomous drone pilotings etc, ideaForge will be able to quickly build programs and training to build a pilot ecosystem.” The structured training consists of 2 days of classroom-based ground instruction, followed by 3 days of hands-on sessions that include simulator training, basic assembly and maintenance, and supervised practical flying—both dual and solo and this is aligned with DGCA’s guidelines and is delivered by certified instructors with in-depth operational experience. The ground training covers foundational and advanced modules such as basic principles of flight, weather and meteorology, ATC procedures & Radio Telephony (non FRTOL), aerodynamics for different drone classes (fixed-wing, rotorcraft, and hybrid), risk assessment and safety protocols, drone equipment maintenance, and an introduction to drone data and analytics. Flying sessions include detailed simulator exercises, guided assembly and maintenance tasks, instrument flying, and practical flying under instructor supervision leading to solo operations. The program is open to all Indian citizens aged between 18 and 65 years, regardless of professional background. Applicants must have completed at least Class 10 and hold any one form of valid government-issued ID.

Air India announces Delhi-Gaya flights from September onwards

Delhi, 02 May 2025: Air India today announced daily flights between Delhi and Gaya, starting 01 September 2025. The daily service on this route will be operated by Air India’s A320 aircraft, maing it the only commercial airlines to start operations. The opening of this new route adds Gaya as the 46th destination in Air India’s domestic route network. The connectivity to Gaya supports religious tourism and enables seamless one-stop access for travellers from other Asian countries to the gateway to Bodh Gaya, one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. Air India’s flights to Gaya are timed to enable convenient connections to/from Kathmandu, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket, and Singapore, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul-Incheon, and Tokyo-Haneda.

Air Marshal SP Dharkar retires as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, IAF

New Delhi, 2nd May 2025: Air Marshal SP Dharkar retired as Vice Chief of the Air Staff on 30 April 2025, on superannuation from the Indian Air Force (IAF), after completion of 40 years of illustrious service to the nation. Air Marshal Dharkar was commissioned on 14 June 1985 as a Flying Pilot in the fighter stream of IAF and flew more than 3600 hours on different aircraft of the IAF. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor, Fighter Strike Leader and an Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, India and Army War College, USA. He held several important appointments in his career including that of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief at the Eastern Air Command (EAC) and Senior Air Staff Officer at South Western Air Command, He also held offices of Air Defence Commander at HQ EAC and Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Training) at Air Headquarters. He was the first Director General of the Defence Space Agency. In recognition of his meritorious services of an exceptionally high order, the Air Marshal was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2014, Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023 and Uttam Yudh Seva Medal in 2025.

India shuts airspace for Pakistan based carriers including both civil and defence

New Delhi, 30th April 2025: After a high level meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence on 30th April 2025 in New Delhi, the Govt. of India has announced closure of Indian airspace for all Pakistan owned and operated planes including military aircrafts. The decision came after series of provocating statements by Pakistani ministers and their functionaries and closure of Pakistan Airspace for Indian carriers. As on today, both the country have banned entry of each other’s airlines over their airspace till 11:59 pm UTC on May 23 (5:29 am IST on May 24).These may be revised closer to that date. A NOTAM or Notice to Air Missions was released by New Delhi, which read, “Indian airspace not available to Pakistan registered aircraft and aircraft operated or leased by Pakistan airlines. These include military flights.” After the brutal killing of innocent Indian tourist in Kashmir’s most popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, Indian government has taken series of strict actions again Pakistan. India has also banned you tube channels and social media handles of all Pakistani popular faces including politicians as they are accused of spreading hatred against India by their false narrations. Both India and Pakistan has aksed non-citizens to return to their respective countries as their visa stands cancelled.

Air India to operate daily flights to Tokyo Haneda from 15th June onwards

Delhi, 30th April 2025: Air India has announced the expansion of its non-stop service between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda, increasing from 4x weekly flights to daily flights, starting 15 June 2025. This enhancement strengthens connectivity between India and Japan, offering greater convenience for travellers and supporting growing trade and tourism between the two countries. This move builds on Air India’s recent shift to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (from Narita) on 31 March 2025, which reduced travel time to Tokyo Station to approximately 30 minutes.The daily flights, operated with Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, provide passengers with faster access to central Tokyo, as Haneda Airport is just 18 km from downtown Tokyo. “Expanding our Delhi-Tokyo Haneda service to daily flights reflects Air India’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for travel between India and Japan,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. “This daily service, combined with our deepened codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways, makes it easier for our guests to explore Japan and connect convenientlyto other destinations in the country beyond Tokyo.” Through Air India’s expanded codeshare with Star Alliance partner All Nippon Airways (ANA), Air India guests can conveniently connect from Tokyo Haneda to six major Japanese cities—Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo—on a single ticket with baggage checked through to their final destination.

The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
