DAC clears capital acquisition proposals worth over Rs 54,000 crore to enhance defence capabilities

New Delhi, 19th March 2025: Under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), on March 20, 2025, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) to eight capital acquisition proposals amounting to over Rs 54,000 crore. For the Indian Army, AoN for procurement of 1350 HP Engine was accorded to upgrade the present 1000 HP Engine for the T-90 Tanks. This will enhance the battlefield mobility of these tanks especially in high-altitude area by increasing the power to weight ratio. For the Indian Navy, AoN for procurement of Varunastra Torpedoes (Combat) was accorded by DAC. Varunastra Torpedo is an indigenously-developed ship-launched anti-submarine torpedo developed by Naval Science & Technological Laboratory. Induction of additional quantities of this torpedo would enhance the Navy’s capability against adversaries’ submarine threats. For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) Aircraft Systems was accorded by DAC. AEW&C systems are capability enhancers which can change the complete spectrum of warfare and exponentially increase the combat potential of every other weapon system. As a part of celebrating 2025 as ‘Year of Reforms’ in the Ministry of Defence, DAC also approved the guidelines for reducing the timelines at various stages of the Capital Acquisition Process to make it faster, more effective and efficient. The airline also offers international connecting flights from Mumbai to Da Nang, Phu Quoc (Vietnam), Phnom Penh, and Taipei (via Bangkok), ensuring a smooth stopover with check-through baggage service.

Delhi, 10th March 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region has announced new office bearers for 2025-26 at its AGM held in New Delhi where the y have elected Sunjay Kapur, Chairman, Sona Comstar as the Chairman and Puneet Kaura, Managing Director & CEO, Samtel Avionics as the the Deputy Chairman. Together, they will steer CII Northern Region across seven states—Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and three Union Territories—Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh—focusing on growth, innovation, and industry competitiveness. SriLankan Airlines introduces wireless in-flight entertainment

Delhi 4th March 2025 : SriLankan Airlines will be introducing wireless in-flight entertainment on select narrow-body A320 aircraft, enabling passengers to seamlessly stream content on their own devices. The passengers on certain short-haul flights can now experience a greater degree of personalisation and convenience, while enjoying their favourite movies, music and more onboard. Maria Sathasivam, Manager Product Development of SriLankan Airlines stated, “We are excited to make our award-winning onboard entertainment content even more accessible to our loyal customers. Wireless entertainment is emerging as a game-changer in the industry, offering multiple advantages for both customers and airlines. PHL’s 2024 pax volume surpasses 30 million

Philadelphia,1st March 2025: Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed almost 30.9 million passengers in 2024 — an increase of almost 10 percent over 2023 and the most guests who have passed through the airport’s terminals since its record year of 2019. Over 3.8 million of those passengers traveled to and from international destinations. “We knew going into 2024 that it would be an exciting year for PHL, with the city hosting events like Wrestle Mania and American Airlines launching new international service to Copenhagen, Naples and Nice. We surpassed our 2023 passenger total by November,” said City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation CEO Atif Saeed. “2025 will be even more eventful. In June, Aeroméxico will join our airline partners and begin year-round daily service to Mexico City. Also this summer, American will introduce seasonal service to Milan and Edinburgh. The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 matches at Lincoln Financial Field and the United States Navy’s and Marine Corps’ Homecoming 250 celebration will bring even more guests to PHL.” More than 9.1 million guests flew to and from PHL in the summer months of June-August, including 3.1 million in July and 3 million in August. This was the first time since 2019 that PHL surpassed 3 million guests in any month. Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) is a general aviation airport, which is also owned and operated by the Department of Aviation. PNE had 122,186 plane movements, a 6.6 percent increase over 2023. As a general aviation airport, PNE has major tenants engaged in private transport, business and corporate flying, the manufacturing or building process of those aircraft, providing flight training and aviation mechanical training. FLY91 customers can now book tickets through Paytm

SolitAir selects Aero Inspection as CAMO service provider

Dubai, 25th February, 2025: SolitAir, the UAE’s based cargo-agnostic airline operating express daily scheduled services between Dubai and high-yield key trade routes across the Global South, has selected Aero Inspection as the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) service provider. The contract was finalised during MRO Middle East and signed at SolitAir’s new state-of-the-art facility at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai.Under the agreement, SolitAir will subcontract CAMO activities to the Aero Inspection Part CAMO team. HADID acquires 50 per cent of IAA GCC

Dubai, Feb 21, 2025: HADID International Services (HADID) and Intercontinental Aviation Enterprise (IAE) has announced the establishment of Intercontinental Aviation Academy GCC (IAA GCC), for developing aviation training within the region. Building on their strategic partnership, HADID and IAE are now officially commencing IAA GCC’s operations to serve the increasing demand for world-class aviation training. IAA GCC has chosen Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT/OMRK) as its primary training hub in the GCC, reinforcing its commitment to a comprehensive, hands-on training model. Korea Tourism Organization Signs MoU with EaseMyTrip

Delhi, 21 Feb 2025: Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has signed a MoU with EaseMyTrip to strengthen Korea’s positioning as a key destination for Indian travelers. The partnership will leverage EaseMyTrip’s digital reach, travel expertise, and consumer insights to drive interest and facilitate seamless travel experiences to Korea. The signing ceremony took place on February 19, 2025, in the presence of senior representatives from both organizations. Avion Express Philippines to launch ACMI operations

Manila,21st February 2025: Avion Express Philippines, a subsidiary of the world’s largest ACMI provider, Avia Solutions Group, is set to introduce its ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services to the Philippines. The event, led by Gediminas Ziemelis, Chairman of Avia Solutions Group, brought together top executives from major Philippine carriers, including Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific Air (CEB), and Philippine AirAsia. Government officials from key agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), also attended, emphasizing the strategic importance of this development. The new ACMI provider is designed to meet the Philippines’ seasonal aircraftcapacity needs. 2024 tourism revenue in the Philippines has surged past pre-pandemic levels, exceeding the estimated P600.01 billion in 2019 by 26.75%, with tourist arrivals registering 9.15% higher than 2023.However, this growth is tempered by significant challenges. The global supply chain crisis has led to a backlog of over 17,000 new aircraft, creating difficulties for airlines to meet growing demand and maximize potential revenues. The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .

There are features on Regional connectivity and MoCA revised rules on the UDAN 2.0 and how its going to transform the flying experience within India.
