Pegasus Airlines Introduces AI-Generated Pilots’ Announcements

London,1st October 2024: Pegasus Airlines continues to introduce innovations to enhance its guests’ travel experiences with the launch of this ground-breaking new multilingual project. From October, flights to Spanish, Arabic, and Russian-speaking countries will feature AI-generated announcements in the respective local language, following the English version. This feature was initially introduced on the inaugural Seville route on 24 September. During the flight, guests were greeted in Spanish before being provided with information about the route. Pegasus Innovation Lab Launches First Project The Pegasus Innovation Lab, which was established last year in Silicon Valley to spearhead new technologies and innovations in the aviation sector, developed this project, which harnesses AI for voice cloning and multi-language announcement systems. The system clones the voices of male and female Pegasus captains to create dynamic multilingual announcements tailored to each flight. The announcements share details such as flight information, weather, destination, the captain’s name, and flight duration, all updated via AI before take-off. With this project, Pegasus offers its guests a personalised and innovative flight experience by addressing them in their native languages.

ixigo Launches ‘Price Lock’ for Flights: Lock Fare Now, Book Later

New Delhi, 1st October 2024: ixigo has introduced its innovative “Price Lock” feature for flights, allowing travellers to lock airfares for up to 2 days and book later, once their travel plans are confirmed. Currently available for domestic flights, this feature offers users added flexibility and protection from fluctuating airfares, making travel planning more convenient and stress-free. With Price Lock, booking flights becomes easier and more secure, giving travellers peace of mind while finalising their trips. The Price Lock feature, starting at just ₹99 per passenger, allows travellers to lock in airfares and pay later, offering protection against sudden price increases and avoids buyer’s remorse in case fares drop. If fares rise, the feature provides price protection of up to ₹4,000 per passenger. If prices drop, travellers benefit by paying the new lower fare. This ensures that they either pay the locked-in price or a reduced price, but never more, providing reassurance when booking flights. Price Lock is currently available on domestic flight bookings, across all the ixigo Group apps. Commenting on this, Rajnish Kumar, Group Co-CEO, ixigo, said, “We are thrilled to launch the Price Lock feature, designed to give travellers the freedom to plan their trips without the stress of dealing with sudden fare hikes. Solapur Airport Inaugurated by the PM in Maharashtra

New Delhi,30th Sept.2024: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Solapur Airport through video conferencing along with the laying of foundation stone, inauguration and dedication of various projects of Housing & Urban Development, Commerce & Industry etc. on 29 Sept, 2024 in the august presence of Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister, Maharashtra,Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra and Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation. Inaugurating the Airport, Prime Minister said that the development of this airport will facilitate access of pilgrims to religious places, enhance the overall infrastructure of the city, boost the tourism industry and create new livelihood opportunities, thereby promoting regional development. The Solapur airport has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 65 Crore to operate Code- B- type of aircraft. The Terminal Building of Solapur now has a total area of 1152 sqm. to serve 150 passengers during peak hours and 4.1 lakh passengers annually. The Terminal is fully equipped with required passenger facilities like two check-in counters and sufficient concessionaire area. The city side area of the airport is also developed for a parking of 100 cars. The Airside augmentation include expansion of Apron to accommodate four aircraft (Two Q-400/ATR-72 and two BCH-1900D type of aircraft). Construction of Fire station is also completed as an Operational requirement. The terminal building reflects AAI’s commitment to sustainable developments by implementing cost effective carbon mitigation actions like energy efficient technologies & power generation from renewable energy sources like, 100% LED Lighting control through Building Management System, Energy Efficient E&M equipment. The artworks installed inside the Terminal building glorify and showcase the rich art, architecture and culture of Solapur City. The paintings at different locations in the terminal showcasing the Lavani dance form, the images of various traditional musical instruments of Maharashtra and ‘Pandharpur Wari’ work displays to make the passengers informed and enchanted with the enriched cultural heritage, rooted tradition and religious beliefs of the city. With the new Airport, Solapur anticipates heightened connectivity, promising increased business opportunities and tourism growth in the region. Solapur is renowned for its textile industry, particularly the Solapurichadars and towels, which are famous not only in India but also in other countries for their quality and craftsmanship. Additionally, Solapur is famous for its agricultural produce, including pomegranates and sugarcane, contributing to its economic growth.

Etihad cargo completes 20 years of operations in India

Abu Dhabi, 23rd Sept. 2024: Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has completed 20 years of operations in India.The airlines had marked its first flight to Mumbai on 26 September 2004. Over the years, Etihad Cargo has expanded its presence in India, now offering belly hold capacity via nonstop services between Abu Dhabi and 12 major Indian cities, with plans for further growth. Etihad Cargo handles over 46,000 tonnes of cargo annually ex India, connecting the country to over 100 global destinations via its Abu Dhabi hub via 588 widebody and narrowbody rotations each month. To meet the needs of specific sectors, Etihad Cargo has enhanced its product range, adding new features and launching new products. Key commodities handled include electronics, including mobile phones and semiconductors, garments, pharmaceuticals, perishables, e-commerce, automobile components and courier shipments, reflecting the diversity and strength of India’s manufacturing and export sectors. The carrier’s IATA CEIV Pharma-certified PharmaLife product provides precise temperature control for the safe transport of high-value pharmaceuticals, a growing market in India. Etihad Cargo is exploring additional certified pharma trade lanes with key airline partners and has implemented stringent cargo screening for US-bound shipments from major Indian hubs, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Etihad Cargo’s pharma roadshows in India, launched in 2023, have helped double PharmaLife volumes by improving connectivity and frequencies. Additionally, the introduction of Etihad Cargo’s IATA CEIV Li-batt-certified SecureTech product in 2024 has supported the growth of electronics shipments. “As Etihad Cargo celebrates two decades of successful operations in India, the carrier’s commitment to its customers remains strong,” said Stanislas Brun, Vice President Cargo. “Etihad Cargo’s continued investment in its network, product range, infrastructure, and digitalisation efforts ensures the carrier can provide efficient, reliable air cargo solutions that meet the evolving needs of customers in India and beyond.” The airline has invested in advanced technology to enhance its operations, including the use of customer relationships and cargo management systems like Salesforce and Sales Cockpit, as well as track and trace capabilities and automated warehouse management. The ongoing enhancement of Etihad Cargo’s online booking portal, which now includes options for pets and dangerous goods as well as personalised dashboards, has improved the efficiency of the booking process. Currently, 93 per cent of the bookings made in India are made directly through Etihad Cargo’s booking portal. As Etihad Cargo looks to the future, the airline will continue to innovate and expand its operations, remaining committed to evaluating its network and adding capacity where required to support its customers in this key market. AAR awarded five-year contract to perform airframe maintenance for U.S. Navy’s P-8A Poseidon fleet

Wood Dale, Illinois, 24th Sept. 2024: AAR CORP., the provider of aviation services to commercial and government operators, MROs, and OEMs, has been awarded a five-year indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity contract with an aggregate ceiling value of approximately $1.2 billion by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to perform P-8A Poseidon depot airframe maintenance and depot field team support for the U.S. Navy, government of Australia, and foreign military sales (FMS) customers. This follow-on contract continues AAR’s strategic partnership supporting NAVAIR. AAR will provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, in-service repair, technical directive incorporation, airframe modifications, and aircraft-on-ground (AOG) support. This contract retains AAR’s position as a leader of commercial derivative airframe maintenance for the U.S. Department of Defense and supports the Navy’s readiness through the repair of the P-8A Poseidon. “AAR is pleased to continue our longstanding partnership with NAVAIR and honored to be the prime provider supporting this critical fleet,” said Nicholas Gross, AAR’s Senior Vice President of Integrated Solutions. “Our rapid deployment teams provide on-demand expertise anywhere in the world.”

Embraer to invest in new MRO facilities for commercial jets in Texas

Fort Worth, TX, Sept.24, 2024: Embraer has announced the expansion of its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services network to support the growing fleet of E-Jets in the Unites States by opening a new Embraer owned service center at the Perot Field Alliance Airport, in Fort Worth, Texas. In partnership with the City of Fort Worth, Denton County and the State of Texas, Embraer expects to begin operations in an existing hangar, in the first quarter of 2025, while building a second hangar that should be concluded by 2027. With the new facilities, Embraer’s capacity to serve the E-Jets customers is expected to have a considerable increase in the US. “This expansion will significantly increase the capacity, capability, and footprint of our services network by providing world-class support to our customers and the growing fleet of E-Jets in North America. Also, it is part of Embraer’s growth strategy in the US”, said Carlos Naufel, President and CEO of Embraer Services & Support. The new Fort Worth service center will be added to the global network of Embraer which includes 80 authorized centers and 12 owned service centers around the world. The city of Fort Worth has been selected as the finalist location for the proposed project, subject to approval by local government authorities of certain proposed incentives.

Drayton Aerospace acquires ATR72-500 for teardown

Singapore, 23rd Sept. 2024: Drayton Aerospace has announced the acquisition of an ATR72-500 to drive growth in their aircraft and parts trading business unit. BEL signs Teaming Agreement with Reliasat Inc. Canada

Bengaluru, September 19, 2024: Navaratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) today signed a Teaming Agreement with Reliasat Inc. Canada to collaborate in the area of space products. The Teaming Agreement aims at leveraging BEL and Reliasat’s capabilities in the domain of space. This is a significant step that will enable BEL to foray into the space segment, in line with the Government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make-in-India’ initiatives, and strengthen its existing portfolio. The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
