IGI Airport gets new premium Lounge ENCALM PRIVE at T3 for premium business travellers

New Delhi, 20th July 2023: Adding luxury for premium category fliers, IGI Airport T3 gets a new lounge as ENCALM PRIVE opened by Encalm Hospitality. Air passenger traffic surpasses pre-COVID levels at Mumbai Int. Airport

• Compared to the June 2019 levels, CSMIA demonstrated a remarkable recovery of 107% in air passenger traffic encompassing both domestic and international sectors • In June 2023, CSMIA observed a 33% growth in total passenger numbers compared to June 2022(3.1 Mn). Additionally, CSMIA witnessed 39% growth specifically in international passengers. • Middle East led the region wise traffic share with 36% share, followed by Australasia (22%), Europe (18%) and North America (16%). • June 10th recorded the highest daily traffic with a total of 148,981 passengers. • Dubai, London Heathrow, and Abu Dhabi, remain the top international destinations. • Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai recorded as the top three preferred domestic destinations. • Top Airlines serving the highest international passenger numbers were IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates. Mumbai, 19th July 2023: Signifying strong growth, Mumbai Int. Airport witnessed a remarkable performance in terms of passenger traffic for the month of June 2023. Fuelled by its excellent connectivity and world-class infrastructure, the airport observed 107% recovery in passenger traffic in June’ 23, as compared to Jun’19. CSMIA continues to strengthen its unrivalled position as a leader of aviation excellence with substantial surge in both domestic and international passenger numbers. This achievement serves as an enduring testament to CSMIA’s capabilities, reinforcing its position as a frontrunner in the aviation landscape of India. The passenger traffic observed in the month of June further compliments CSMIA’s monumental growth, recording an approx. total of 4.19 million passengers -with arrivals comprising approx. 2.14 million and departures comprising 2.04 million passengers. CSMIA observed a 33% growth in total passenger numbers in June 2023, compared to June 2022. Additionally, with 1.1 Mn international passengers, CSMIA witnessed 39% growth, in comparison to 0.8 Mn same period last year. CSMIA has also observed a significant rise in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). June 2023 alone recorded a total of 26,459 ATMs, thereby strengthening its position as a cornerstone of the aviation industry. Delhi emerged as the topmost domestic travel destination, with 499,916 passengers. This was closely followed by Bangalore and Chennai, augmenting Mumbai Airport’s undisputed status as a premier gateway, providing non-stop and seamless connections to prominent cities across the country. Considering the international arena, Dubai continued to be ranked as the top destination with 197,206 passengers, encompassing both arrivals and departures. London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi also catered to a high number of passengers ranking amongst the top three. Additionally, in the same period Middle East led the region wise traffic share with 36% share, followed by Australia (22%), Europe (18%) and North America (16%). This data is a testament to the strong surge in travel demand for aviation industry supporting passengers seeking travel opportunities. On 10th June 2023, CSMIA witnessed significant passenger movement, with the highest daily traffic recorded with 148,981 passengers travelling through the airport. This includes 107,939 domestic passengers while international travellers stood at 41,042.

Singapore Airlines to temporarily increase seat capacity from Kolkata during Durga Puja

India, 17th July 2023: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced temporary upgauge of its Boeing 737-8 services to Airbus A350-900 services from 17-20 October 2023, and again on 26 and 27 October 2023. Subject to regulatory approvals, this change of aircraft type from a narrow-body to a wide-body over the Durga Puja period will help meet the surge in demand for travel during the festival. Singapore Airlines currently flies daily from Kolkata, operating its 154-seater B737-8 aircraft from Tuesdays to Fridays and its 303-seater A350-900 aircraft every Monday, Saturday and Sunday. With this upgauge, the Airline will operate daily A350-900 services from 14-23 October 2023 and again from 26-30 October 2023, thus increasing SIA’s total capacity from Kolkata by 22% over the Durga Puja period. Daily A350-900 operations during this time will also offer customers an inventory of 40 lie-flat Business Class seats per day as opposed to just 10 on the B737-8 aircraft. The complete current and revised flight schedules for Kolkata can be found in Annexe A at the end of this release. All times stated in the schedules are local. Sy Yen Chen, General Manager India for Singapore Airlines, said, “We are delighted to announce this temporary capacity increase from Kolkata over the Durga Puja period, when demand for travel usually exceeds availability of seats. We are fully committed to the West Bengal market, and we want our customers to enjoy their holidays with seamless connections to their preferred destinations on their favourite Airline.” “Our modern Airbus A350 medium haul aircraft, combined with award-winning inflight service and complimentary Wi-Fi across cabins, will provide enhanced comfort to travellers from Kolkata, further demonstrating SIA’s commitment to product and service excellence.” Mr. Chen added.

IAF Continues Relief Operations in Flood Affected States

Delhi, 14th July 2023: The IAF has been fully involved in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in the light of current flood situation. In the last 48 hours, a total 40 sorties have been carried out, in which, 126 people have been rescued and 17 tons of relief materials have been distributed in various areas.In the last 24 hrs, major operations have been carried out towards flood affected areas of Haryana. Villages of Nihara, Allaudin Majra, Bishangarh, Segta, Bhunni, Mumni, Segti and Jansui were provided with relief materials consisting of rations, tarpaulin sheets, fresh food and water bottles by M-17 helicopters. Airwarriors and all requisite assets such as M-17 and Chinook Helicopters and An-32 and C-130 Transport Aircraft remain on standby to undertake required operations.

Azerbaijan Airlines buys an AL172 flight simulator

Le Loroux-Bottereau, France, 13th July, 2023: Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), situated at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, has selected an ALSIM AL172 for its training needs. The ALSIM AL172, built to FAA FTD Level 5 standards and already certified as an AATD, is a replica of a brand-new Cessna 172SP Skyhawk with a real Garmin G1000 NXI and GFC700 autopilot. Ilham Amirov, Vice-President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC said, “The national flag carrier of Azerbaijan, by purchasing the AL172 flight simulator manufactured by ALSIM, will improve the quality of training of AZAL pilots and the effectiveness of their training. Thus, with the help of a flight simulator, airline pilots can improve their skills and gain a profound understanding of flight processes. The state-of-art ALSIM AL172 simulator, which has high-tech equipment and is an exceptional simulation system, will allow the pilots to train in conditions as close as possible to a real-life flight. Equipped with advanced technology, it models all kinds of flight scenarios, including various weather conditions, emergencies, and stressful situations on board. Such training allows pilots to better cope with real-life situations and improve their efficiency. The new ALSIM AL172 simulator will be used not only for basic pilot training but also for skills development and pilot training for more complex flight tasks.” Audrey Jeffroy, ALSIM’s Sales Director, commented, “We are very proud to welcome Azerbaijan Airlines among our customers. Federal Bank, Collinson and LoungeKey to offer access to premium airport lounges

Mumbai, 11th July 2023: Federal Bank in association with Collinson, owner and operator of Priority Pass Access India, a dedicated airport experiences programme for India, and LoungeKey, an international digital travel experiences programme, announces a new programme that offers the Bank’s customers access to premium airport lounges and travel experiences. This partnership will enable eligible Federal Bank cardholders (with payment cards issued across any payment network brand – Mastercard, Visa and Rupay) to enjoy complimentary access to over 50 premium airport lounges and travel experiences across all major cities in India, simply by tapping or swiping their payment card on entry. Additionally, eligible Federal Bank cardholders will also have access to over 1,200 international airport lounges and travel experiences through Collinson’s LoungeKeyTM programme. Depending on their card type, eligible cardholders will be entitled to between two and four complimentary lounge visits per annum. With India experiencing a positive travel rebound over and above pre-COVID levels, this partnership with Federal Bank is perfectly timed to better support its cardholders during their upcoming travels. The premium benefit is also highly relevant, with travellers having expressed that they are willing to pay more for experiences that make their journeys more comfortable, such as airport lounge access. MoD & HAL sign Rs 458 crore contract for two upgraded Dornier Aircraft for Indian Coast

New Delhi, 9th July 2023: Ministry of Defence signed, in New Delhi on July 07, 2023, a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for procurement of two Dornier Aircraft for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) along with associated Engineering Support package at an overall cost of Rs 458.87 crore. The aircraft will be procured under the Buy (Indian) Category.The aircraft will be fitted with a number of advanced equipment viz., Glass Cockpit, Maritime Patrol Radar, Electro Optic Infra-Red device, Mission Management System etc. The addition will further bolster the aerial surveillance capability of maritime areas of responsibilities of the ICG. The Dornier aircraft are being indigenously manufactured at HAL (Transport Aircraft Division), Kanpur and will significantly contribute in achieving Aatmanirbharta in defence, in consonance with the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government.

Def Min to visit Malaysia to further cement defence ties & Enhanced Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, 9th July 2023: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will be visiting to Malaysia on July 10-11, 2023, with focus on further consolidating bilateral defence cooperation and Enhanced Strategic Partnership. The Raksha Mantri will hold bilateral talks with Defence Minister of Malaysia Mr Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan, during which both the Ministers will review defence cooperation between the two countries and explore new initiatives to further strengthen the engagements. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest. Rajnath Singh will also call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mr YB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim during the visit. India and Malaysia have a common interest in peace and prosperity of the entire region. The two democracies have a robust and multifaceted relationship which has expanded into several strategic areas, including defence and security. Both the countries are committed to work under the vision of Enhanced Strategic Partnership established during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015.

The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .

There are features on Regional connectivity and MoCA revised rules on the UDAN 2.0 and how its going to transform the flying experience within India.
