AirAsia India retains top position in On Time Performance

Mumbai, 22nd June 2022: As per the On Time Performance data reported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), AirAsia India in May 2022 has topped the charts with 90.8% for four metro airports- Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The airline recently announced the expansion of its network to Lucknow with direct flights connecting Lucknow to Bengaluru, Delhi, Goa, Kolkata and Mumbai. AirAsia India is also connecting Lucknow to other stations on its network with convenient one-stop itineraries, including Srinagar, Cochin, Hyderabad, and Guwahati. Speaking about the achievement,Sunil Bhaskaran, MD & CEO, AirAsia India said “Showing best-in-class performance on key parameters like On Time Performance is an affirmation of the commitment and dedication with which we strive to ensure consistency, efficiency and exemplary service in our operations.”

Garuda Aerospace partners with HiiLSE Drones to set up 1st international Drone Factory in Malaysia

22nd June 2022, Chennai: Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd has teamed up with HiiLSE Global Sdn Bhd (HiiLSE Drones) to set up Southeast Asia’s first and largest HiiLSE Garuda Aerospace Plant. The plant will be spread over 2.42 hectares in Malaysia with an investment of Rupees 115 crores. The partners aim to focus on providing cutting-edge technology to both the government and private sectors all across the region.Garuda Aerospace intends to have a global footprint that impacts society in a positive way using robust technology that increases efficiency and reduces costs. Reacting on the development,Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace said, “This partnership will define an ecosystem of drones with advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning technologies. SpiceJet plane makes emergency landing in Patna after engine suffers technical glitch

19th June 2022; Patna: SpiceJet flight number 723 plane makes an emergency landing at Patna airport after take off from Patna to Delhi. This was due to technical fault encountered in the engine of the aircraft as soon as it took off. In the emergency, the plane was made to land back at Patna airport. It managed to land back safely. The engine of the plane is said to have caught fire, soon after it took off. In fact, the fire and smoke were reported by locals first. The plane had over 180 passengers on board along with the crew. “The Delhi-bound flight had returned to Patna airport after locals noticed a fire in the aircraft and informed district and airport officials. All 185 passengers were safely de boarded. Reason for the fire is a technical glitch due to bird hit on the left engine.Later, official tweet by Spicejet also confirmed the incident.

LOT POLISH AIRLINES ADDS SARAJEVO AND PRISTINA TO ITS GLOBAL NETWORK

Warsaw, 10. June 2022 As part of its current network expansion, LOT Polish Airlines has grown its services to the Balkan region and is herewith further reinforcing its position as leading carrier in Central Europe. The Star Alliance member carrier has started flying to the cities of Sarajevo and Pristina from its global hub in Warsaw. Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is now served by LOT Polish Airlines five times a week. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday flights depart from Warsaw at 10:35h and arrive in Sarajevo less than two hours later at 12:25h (return flight starts at 13:05h and arrives at 15:00h). On Mondays and Thursdays, the departure from Warsaw is at 14:40h with scheduled arrival in Sarajevo at 16:30h (return flight starts at 17:10h and arrives 19:05h). Passengers from India travelling with LOT Polish Airlines from Delhi enjoy fast and seamless connectivity to this new service. Departing from Delhi at 8:00h they arrive in Sarajevo on the same day at 16:30h local time after a total travel time of 12 hours with a 90 minutes layover in Warsaw. In addition, LOT Polish Airlines has started flying to Pristina, the capital of the Republic of Kosovo, four times a week. Flight LO-587 takes off from Warsaw every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 10:15h and arrives at its destination at 12:30h. On the return leg, LO-588 leaves Pristina at 13:20h, arriving in Warsaw at 15:50h with connectivity to its Delhi flights. Ongoing global expansion. In addition to the new flights to Sarajevo and Pristina, LOT Polish Airlines has recently added further destinations to its global network, which are all served from its Star Alliance hub in Warsaw: Mumbai (two flights per week), Baku/Azerbaijan (four flights per week) and Cairo/Egypt (five flights times per week). On July 1, flights to/from Stuttgart/Germany will be resumed. Stuttgart has been Mumbai’s sister city for more than 50 years, so the new route will seamlessly connect them now via Warsaw. AirAsia India deploys TaxiBot operations at BIAL

Bangalore, 10th June 2022: As one of the key initiatives during Tata Sustainability Month, AirAsia India today flagged off the commencement of TaxiBot operations at Bengaluru International Airport, following successful trials and subsequent implementation at Delhi International Airport. The flag-off event was attended by Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, MD & CEO, AirAsia India, Capt. Manish Uppal, Head of Operations, AirAsia India, Mr. Hari Marar, MD & CEO, Bangalore International Airport Limited and Mr. Murali Ramachandran, CEO, Celebi Aviation. With the commencement of TaxiBot operations in Delhi in February this year, AirAsia India became the first airline globally to initiate TaxiBot services with passengers onboard on modified aircraft. AirAsia India tied up with KSU Aviation, the exclusive operator of the TaxiBot in India. TaxiBot is a semi-robotic aircraft towing device that is a green alternative to save fuel, reduce CO₂ emissions and noise pollution, decrease aircraft wear and tear, and minimise instances of Jet Blast and Foreign Object Damage, improving efficiency and enhancing safety in the parking area. TaxiBot is an alternate taxiing solution which can tow aircraft from the aircraft boarding gate to the active runway without utilising the aircraft engines. “We’re proud to be the first airline globally to initiate TaxiBot services on modified aircraft with passengers onboard. Following the successful trials and implementation in Delhi, we are delighted to be commencing TaxiBot operations at our largest hub, Bangalore, as well. Defence Acquisition Council clears proposals of Rs 76,390 crore in major boost to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’

New Delhi; 7th June 2022: In a major boost to ‘Aatmanirbharta’, Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), in a meeting chaired by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on June 06, 2022, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Capital Acquisition Proposals of the Armed Forces amounting to Rs 76,390 crore under ‘Buy (Indian)’, ‘Buy & Make (Indian)’ and ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ categories. This will provide substantial boost to the Indian Defence Industry and reduce foreign spending significantly. For the Indian Army, the DAC accorded fresh AoNs for procurement of Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks (RTFLTs), Bridge Laying Tanks (BLTs), Wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles (Wh AFVs) with Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) and Weapon Locating Radars (WLRs) through domestic sources with emphasis on indigenous design and development. For the Indian Navy, the DAC accorded AoN for procurement of Next Generation Corvettes (NGC) at an estimated cost of approx. Rs 36,000 crore. These NGCs will be versatile platforms for variety of roles viz. surveillance missions, escort operations, deterrence, Surface Action Group (SAG) operations, Search & Attack and Coastal Defence. These NGCs would be constructed based on new in-house design of Indian Navy using latest technology of ship building and would contribute to further the Government’s initiative of SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region). The DAC accorded AoNs for manufacture of Dornier Aircrafts and Su-30 MKI aero-engines by the Navratna CPSE M/s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited with focus on enhancing indigenisation particularly in indigenising aero-engine material. In pursuance of the Government’s vision for digital transformation in Defence, ‘Digital Coast Guard’ project under ‘Buy (Indian) Category has been approved by the DAC. Under this project, a pan India secure network for digitising of various surface and aviation operations, logistics, finance and HR processes in Coast Guard will be established.

IAF to Transfer land to AAI for RCS UDAN

3rd June 2022; New Delhi: To enhance support for Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Indian Air Force has facilitated Working Permission and handing over of Defence Land by Ministry of Defence to Airport Authority of India (AAI) at seven locations, viz, Bagdogra, Darbhanga, Adampur, Utarlai, Sarsawa, Kanpur and Gorakhpur. AAI would now be utilising the existing IAF airfields to operate civil flights under the RCS UDAN scheme. Approximately 40 acres of land is being handed over for development of civil terminals and necessary airfield infrastructure for commencing RCS flights. Providing air connectivity at these locations will boost the economy and develop the areas. Moreover, IAF is also in the process of handing over Defence land for expansion of civil airports at six locations, over and above those covered under RCS, viz., Srinagar, Thanjavur, Chandigarh, Leh, Pune and Agra. This will facilitate expansion of the existing terminals and facilities to accommodate enhanced number of passengers and cargo infrastructure.

Jazeera Airways adds IATA Financial Gateway in its payment system

Delhi, 2nd June 2022: Jazeera Airways, the first privately owned airline in the Middle East had implemented payment through the IATA Financial Gateway (IFG) as a new and additional Mode of payment for Group Bookings. IFG (BSP) payment is only available for Travel Agencies registered with Jazeera Airways. IFG, is a system designed to facilitate and simplify the selling, reporting, and remitting procedures of IATA-accredited passenger sales agents, according to the IATA website. As a response to this decision, everyone has highly appreciated and mentioned that this mode of payment has indeed enhanced yet simplified the business experience for the travel partners. This new and additional Mode of Payment was introduced when the Airways decided that they will discontinue its availability on all GDSs (Galileo & Amadeus) about 15 months ago. The availability of the IFG (BSP) payment will be for Travel Agencies registered with Jazeera Airways only. Booking and Payment process: • Agents log in to Jazeera portal through their login credentials. • Agents choose the required itinerary and go to payment page. • At payment choice, agents will have payment options. 1) Top-up account (Cash deposit) 2) IFG (BSP payment module) 3) Credit card (Master and Visa) • Authorization is done by IATA to check agent is active and can be billed on BSP. • Billing is added to issuing agents’ BSP billing and would be paid as per the usual BSP calendar

Lot Polish launches non-stop service between Mumbai and Warsaw

Mumbai,1st June 2022: Star Alliance member carrier LOT Polish Airlines increases its footprint in India and has now integrated Mumbai in its global route network. Today, LOT Polish Airlines launched the new non-stop service between Mumbai and Warsaw. The Polish capital is LOT Polish Airlines’ global hub, providing seamless connectivity to many destinations throughout Europe and North America. Flight LO-076 takes off from Mumbai every Sunday at 8:45hr and every Wednesday at 8:25hr and arrives at 13:40hr and 13:20hr respectively (local times) at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport (8:25 hours flight time). On the way to India, flight LO-075 departs from Warsaw every Tuesday and Saturday at 15:40h and lands in Mumbai at 2:45h (following morning) after 7:35 hours flying time. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
