Russian Helicopters Participates in the 9th National NAIS Show

Moscow,February 9, 2022: Russian Helicopters takes part in the 9th National Aviation Infrastructure Show – NAIS 2022. This edition,Russian Helicopters has exhibited HEMS version of Ansat helicopter and BAS-200, a helicopter-type unmanned aircraft. A light multipurpose Ansat with a medical module is designed in order to transport one patient, accompanied by two paramedics. The helicopter contains equipment necessary for monitoring the patient’s medical status and stabilizing the main vital functions during the flight. The use of helicopters for transporting patients to medical facilities ensures prompt casualty evacuation and complies with the “Golden Hour” rule, which implies that rendering professional medical assistance during the first 60 minutes after an accident significantly increases the patient’s chances for survival. NAIS 2022 presents another debutant – a helicopter-type UAV BAS-200. The aircraft may be used for a broad range of aviation tasks: terrain monitoring, cargo delivery, search and rescue operations, agricultural work. The UAV maximum take-off weight is 200 kilograms. It is capable of speeds up to 160 km/h and can carry commercial loads of up to 50 kg. At the same time, the BAS-200 can fly for up to 4 hours at altitudes of up to 3,900 meters.

MoCA tableau named best ministry tableau for Republic Day 2022

New Delhi; 4th Feb 2022: Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) tableau is selected as the best central ministry tableau for Republic Day 2022. The tableau of Ministry of Civil Aviation showcased Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) and the rich dividends it has been yielding. Conceptualized by the Ministry and implemented by AAI, the scheme has the objective of enhancing regional connectivity in an economically sustainable and affordable manner. In aircraft shaped tableau, the front part showcased women pilots depicting women power in India’s aviation, as India tops in women commercial pilots, globally. The rear portion of the tableau showed symbol of Buddhism and motto of UDAN- ‘Sab Uden, Sab Juden’. The middle portion showcased Buddhist circuit featuring Buddha Statue at Gaya where he attained enlightenment, Dhamekh Stupa, Sarnath where he delivered his first sermon (Dharmachakra Parivartan) and the Mahaparinirvana Stupa, Kushinagar where he attained Mahaparinirvana. Both sides of the middle portion of the tableau depicted heritage sites- Humayun tomb from North, Konark sun temple in East, Hampi temple chariot in South and Ajanta caves in West, connected with air services.

BrahMos signs contract with Philippines for export of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System

New Delhi; 29th Jan 2022: BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines on January 28, 2022 for supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to Philippines. The BAPL is a joint venture company of the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The contract is an important step forward for Government of India’s policy of promoting responsible defence exports.

SriLankan Airlines reports a net Profit in December 2021

Colombo, 15th Jan 2022: SriLankan Airlines reports a Company Profit of USD 9.25 million and a Group Profit of USD 10.66 million for December 2021, which is the first profitable month for the airline since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020. The revenues are up by almost 200% compared with the same period last year and has reached over 80% of the pre-pandemic level. Further, the airline reports a profit of USD 11.43 million for December 2021 at Air Transportation level, which is the highest recorded profit from Air Transportation in over 20 years. “The sacrifices made by all our staff members have paved the way for a positive start for the New Year. During the past two years, we implemented multifaceted initiatives to reduce operational costs, for which each and every employee of the SriLankan family contributed, and we are reaping the benefits of our efforts today. The future, however, remains extremely challenging with the spread of the new variant of the virus and we will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary action to ensure that the momentum achieved in December continues,” said Ashok Pathirage, Chairman of SriLankan Airlines. SriLankan operated close to 800 flights during the month and carried a total of 228,203 passengers – in excess of 13 times the number of passengers carried in December 2020. Moreover, SriLankan uplifted a total of 7,877 metric tons of cargo, which is a 147% increase from December 2020. Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, SriLankan has also maintained its commitment to support the national economy, bringing tourism, connecting business, carrying freight and earning foreign exchange. In the past year, SriLankan launched operations to several new destinations including to Seoul; Nairobi; Moscow; Paris; and Kathmandu as the pandemic showed signs of slowing and borders gradually opened. As these positive numbers ring in the New Year for SriLankan, the Airline hopes to continue the momentum by pressing forward with a renewed energy and focus.

IGRUA sets a new record of 19000 flying hours in 2021

New Delhi,8th Jan 2022; Indira Gandhi RashtriyaUran Akademi (IGRUA), one of top rated flying schools of India has piled up record 19000 hours of flying in 2021 as against an average yearly flying output of 15000 per year during the previous five years while it was 11641 hours in 2020. IGRUA achieved this milestone of 19000 hours despite continued effect of pandemic and inclement weather conditions due to Tauktae Cyclone in 2021.During the concurrent period, 66 cadets have graduated as against 43 during the previous year. The achievement becomes more significant when it is done with a reduced fleet strength of 18 aircraft as against 24 during the previous years. IGRUA has already set foundation to hit a target of 25000 flying hours in 2022 by inducting a record 121 cadets in 2021 and expanding the fleet strength in 2022. IGRUA is administered by a Governing Council under the Ex-officio Chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation.

AirAsia India launches its ‘New Year, New Places’ Sale

Mumbai, 27th December 2021: Welcoming 2022, AirAsia India announced its ‘New Year, New Places’ sale with fares starting at Rs.1,122 for routes like Chennai-Bengaluru, Bengaluru-Chennai and Chennai-Hyderabad in addition to similar discounted sale fares across its network. The offer is applicable for bookings made from 27th December till 31st December 2021 for a travel period between 15th January 2022 to 15th April 2022 and includes a date change fee waiver for changes made at least 72 hours prior to the flight departure. Cathay Pacific Cargo launches new cargo-booking platform ‘Click & Ship’ in South Asia

Mumbai, December 8, 2021: Cathay Pacific Cargo is launching Click & Ship, its new digital booking platform, progressively across its network starting this month. Click & Ship promises booking transparency and speed, day and night. Customers in South Asia, including India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka can view prices and capacity, and book cargo with instant confirmation in just three steps through the intuitive booking interface. The Bay Area enjoys the greatest concentration of Michelin three-star restaurants in the U.S. and the most Michelin-starred restaurants in California. Six Bay Area restaurants received the coveted three Michelin stars in the 2021 MICHELIN Guide: Atelier Crenn, Benu, Quince, The French Laundry, SingleThread and Manresa. Eight restaurants were awarded two Michelin stars, including Birdsong, which added a second star. Altogether, 50 Bay Area restaurants were awarded one or more Michelin stars in 2021, accounting for 56% of California’s90 Michelin-starred restaurants. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
