MoD signs contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, for leasing two MQ-9B Sea Guardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) RPAS

New Delhi, 18th August 2026: The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for the leasing of two MQ-9B Sea Guardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for the Indian Navy for a period of 30 months. The contract is valued at approximately Rs 1,943 crore. It was signed in the presence of Additional Secretary & Director General (Acquisition), Department of Defence, Shri A. Anbarasu, at Kartavya Bhawan-2, New Delhi on August 17, 2026. The MQ-9B Sea Guardian HALE RPAS, equipped with advanced systems, state-of-the-art sensors and sophisticated payloads, will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s Maritime Domain Awareness capabilities. The systems will provide persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance coverage over vast areas of the maritime domain, strengthening India’s ability to monitor and respond to developments across the Indian Ocean Region. Air Astana extends suspension of Dubai flights

Astana, 18th August 2026: Air Astana, the flag carrier of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued an statement regarding extending the suspension of flights to Dubai from Almaty and Astana until 30th September 2026. The October schedule for these routes has been adjusted with a reduced frequency of flights. The decision has been taken due to the continuing instability in the Gulf region.Air Astana had earlier suspended its flights to Dubai starting July 21 2026, with the temporary shutdown scheduled till August 31, 2026. Air Astana is offering free rebooking in the same booking class for travel until 20th November 2026 to the affected passengers.They may also request a full refund at the original point of purchase or reroute to other Air Astana international destinations without penalty, subject to any applicable fare difference.
