Alliance Air starts flight between Delhi to Shimla

New Delhi, 26th Sept. 2022: The regional airlines of India, Alliance Air started direct flight from Delhi to Shimla under RCS UDAN scheme on 26th Sept. The inaugural flight was flagged off by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen. Dr. V.K. Singh(Retd) and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur from Hindon Airport, Ghaziabad.This flight will operate with a brand new ATR 42-600. At the inauguration, various key officials were present including Rajiv Bansal, Secretary MoCA, Usha Padhee, Additional Secretary, MoCA, Suresh Kashyap, MP (Lok Sabha), Principal Secretary to the GoHP, Devesh Kumar, Vikram Dutt, CMD AIAHL, Vineet Sood, CEO Alliance Air and others. Initially, this flight of Alliance Air was flagged off by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2017. After operating for more than 2 years under UDAN, this flight was discontinued due to the renovation of the airport and the unavailability of suitable aircraft. Meanwhile, AAI has renovated Shimla airport and Alliance Air has inducted ATR-42 aircraft exclusively to connect airports of Himachal Pradesh. In his address, MoS Gen. Dr V. K. Singh (Rtd.) said that this flight will provide convenience for the people of Shimla and Delhi NCR. The ministry is working to further increase this ATR connectivity from Shimla to Kullu and Shimla to Dharmshala. He congratulated the state government and thanked them for their support and cooperation. Shri Jairam Thakur, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh expressed his thanks towards the Ministry of Civil Aviation for providing the ATR connectivity based on the need of the region. He further said that the state government is working towards creating more air connectivity in the state in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Flight 9I 821 will depart from Delhi at 0710 hrs and arrive in Shimla at 0820 hrs. Flight 9I 822 will depart from Shimla at 0850 hrs and arrive in Delhi at 1000 hrs. The introductory all-inclusive Fares for Delhi-Shimla and Shimla-Delhi will be INR 2141/-.

SevenAir academy acquires L3Harris assets in Portugal

Portugal,24th Sept 2022: Sevenair Academy based in Portugal has announced acquisition of L3Harris pilot training assets in Portugal after an international closed tender. “We learned in May that L3Harris was moving out of Portugal closing its activity and being Portugal our main base of operations we had to try to make this consolidation. We managed to get approved for a closed tender where I believe we were 8 bidders of which some were highly renowned international companies. After several stages of the process our offer was considered the winning offer.” With this acquisition Sevenair Academy has now 3 training locations in Portugal, over 50 aircraft of which 40 are equipped with glass cockpit and are not more than 4 years old, 6 simulators and a 134 double room campus to accommodate the students all that combined with a consolidated experience of over 42 years training thousands of pilots. This unique capability in terms of offer aligned with the best flying conditions in Europe will allow Sevenair Academy to train 400 students per year mostly international students not only in the B2C market but also for some B2B customers such as leading European and Middle East Airlines who are in need of a large pipeline of highly trained pilots.

Defence Secretary reviews preparations for DefExpo 2022 during Apex Committee meeting

New Delhi: 24th Sept 2022: Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar comprehensively reviewed the preparations of the forthcoming DefExpo 2022 during the Apex Committee meeting at New Delhi on September 24, 2022. Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat Shri Pankaj Kumar and other senior officers of the state government as well as Ministry of Defence attended the meeting. The 12th edition of DefExpo is scheduled to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat between October 18-22, 2022 in a first ever four-venue format which promises to engage the public and inspire them to join the Aerospace and Defence manufacturing sector; for ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in Defence. During the meeting, the Defence Secretary was briefed of the arrangements by the multiple stakeholders that are being made for the biennial event. Dr Ajay Kumar urged the officials to strive towards making DefExpo22 a grand success with focus on business and export promotion of indigenous defence platforms and products. The DefExpo 2022 was earlier scheduled from March 10-14, 2022 and was postponed due to logistical challenges being faced by participants at that stage. The new dates (October 18-22, 2022) were announced on August 08, 2022. The forthcoming edition is the first-ever edition exclusively for Indian companies. For DefExpo 2022, Indian companies, Indian subsidiaries of Foreign OEMs, Division of company registered in India, Exhibitor having Joint Venture with an Indian company will be considered as Indian participants. The theme of DefExpo 2022 is ‘Path to Pride’ and in semblance with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to transform India into a strong and self-reliant nation by supporting, showcasing and forging partnerships for the Indian Aerospace and Defence manufacturing sectors with Indian as well as global customers. The aim is to showcase the might of the domestic defence industry which is now powering ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ resolve of the Government and the nation at large. Keeping with ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, DefExpo 2022 promises to better its previous edition as it is being planned in the largest ever total area of 1+ Lakh sqm (previous edition being 76,000 sqm). The inaugural ceremony and seminars will be held at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre (MMCEC), Exhibition at Helipad Exhibition Centre (HEC), Live Demonstrations on all five days at Sabarmati River Front (SRF) and ship visits for public by Indian Coast Guard at Porbandar. The biggest drone show by the indigenous IIT Delhi start-up M/s Botlabs (an iDEX winner) has also been organised, which will be another highlight of the mega-event. The sale of space had commenced from August 15, 2022 and, thus far, over 1,000+ exhibitors have registered and the numbers are anticipated to be the highest-ever recorded during the previous editions of DefExpo. In the run-up to the event, a nation-wide reach out has been undertaken inviting the States to set-up pavilions and thereby partake in nation building through enhancing indigenous defence manufacturing. Many States have assured of participation as a State pavilion. The enhanced number of State Pavilions, which is presently eight, would also provide the opportunity for Chief Ministers, Industries Ministers, Chief Secretaries etc. to solicit investment and promote their respective States thus cultivating more centres for indigenous aerospace and defence manufacturing within the country. Also, towards greater participation by start-ups and MSMEs, 50 per cent discount on space charges is offered. In addition, a National Defence MSME Conclave and Exhibition was successfully held for the first time at Kota, Rajasthan during on September 11-12, 2022 with Speaker of Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla as the Chief Guest and Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt as the Guest of Honour. A static display by the Indian Army displaying indigenous platforms and drone show by Botlabs was well received by the public in Kota. The India Pavilion – a marque pavilion of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence – will showcase the maturity of indigenous defence products, start-ups, latest technology, including Artificial Intelligence in defence, and will present India’s vision for 2047. It has been named ‘Path to Pride’. DefExpo 2022 will also mark the celebration of one year of the formation of the seven new defence companies, carved out of the erstwhile Ordnance Factories. All these companies will be participating for the first time at DefExpo. The exhibition will also host the 2nd edition of the India-Africa Defence Dialogue (IADD), with invites extended to 53 African countries. A separate Indian Ocean Region plus (IOR+) conclave with participation of approximately 40 countries is also on the anvil. Intensive interactions and ideation at seminars, planned at the DefExpo 2022 with eminent panellists from Government, Industry, Industry associations, States, Academia, Think-tanks etc., will also provide important learnings/take-aways/action points for further growth of this sector.

Mumbai’s CSMIA achieves ACI’s Level 3 Airport Customer Experience Accreditation

Mumbai, 22nd September 2022: Experience and wellbeing of our passengers at the airport has always been a prime focus for Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). In recognition of its customer-first initiatives and services, CSMIA has achieved Level 3 of the ‘Airport Customer Experience’ Accreditation programme by Airports Council International (ACI). CSMIA was the first airport in India to be qualified for the Level 1 and Level 2 certification and continues to keep up with passenger’s expectations, year after year, with primary focus on safety, comfort, and convenience. The Level 3 accreditation from ACI lauds the advanced customer experience strategy through the multifaceted engagement of customers, employees and customer experience professionals. Moreover, CSMIA’s digital focus is complimented by a customer-first approach where technology meets quality service. From Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks for passengers to check-in and generate baggage tags themselves, Self-Baggage Drop counters (SBD) to e-gates that allow passengers to scan their boarding pass before proceeding to the security check are just some of the proactive initiatives which are examples of CSMIA’s commitment to adapting to the next generation digital framework. With a focus on promoting a contactless journey, the airport expedited its planned developments and launched initiatives like introducing a touchless feature via QR-code-based technology and its self-check-in kiosks, defining the tech-enablement undertaken at every step of the journey of the passenger. CSMIA also ensured to introduce to the travellers, the culture of India through several activities rolled out at the airport – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 16th Passenger Day celebrations, T2’s 8th Anniversary celebrations and activities, Mumbai Street Food festival, Diwali Kandil décor activities, Christmas, and Independence Day installations and much more. Speaking on the occasion, CSMIA spokesperson said, “We are extremely delighted to be bestowed with this prestigious accreditation by ACI. Acknowledgement of our sincere efforts toward passengers has truly motivated us to strive harder to achieve optimal airport transit experiences for our passengers. Being so close to achieving the next two levels of the total five levels, makes us want to push harder and reach greater heights together.” The ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation programme is the first worldwide customer experience management accreditation that is designed specifically for the airport industry and is dedicated to ACI member airports. Recently, CSMIA was recognized as ‘Best Airport by Size and Region’ for the fifth consecutive year. CSMIA has also achieved the ‘Voice of Customer’ recognition and was also the first Indian airport to achieve ACI Health Accreditation for two consecutive years.

Gulf Air Acting CEO reflects on the Airline’s role as an effective international citizen

Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain – 22nd September 2022: Gulf Air Acting Chief Executive Officer Captain Waleed AlAlawi reflected on the airline’s achievements during a number of interviews and media opportunities conducted with him by several local and international media publications. Captain AlAlawi stated “We are pleased to have the Gulf Air services and products recognized by so many renowned aviation related entities; while maintaining our status as an effective and conscience international citizen. Also, the airline shipped food and medical supplies into Bahrain, using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner cabin seats for cargo. Moreover, The American Government officially thanked Gulf Air for repatriating US citizens out of Afghanistan, as a token of appreciation for the national carrier’s humanitarian gesture. Gulf Air received the Skytrax Five Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating after a vigorous audit by Skytrax Research that took place between November and December 2021. The rating came as a direct result to the success of airline’s operations in flying safely throughout the pandemic and enhancing its airport and onboard protocols to combat the spread of COVID-19. The airline received this recognition by providing the highest standards to customers and staff whilst maintaining its boutique strategy to deliver its renowned Arabian hospitality. Gulf Air also received, for the second consecutive year, APEX’s Five Star Major Official Airline Rating. Based solely on certified passengers’ feedback, the rating came as proof of the success of Gulf Air’s boutique strategy and the major developments in its products and services since the launch of the recent brand refresh and fleet modernization programme. Captain AlAlawi added “I am so proud to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated team represented by the national carrier’s workforce, to help turn around Gulf Air and make it the customer-centric airline it has become today. Jazeera adds two new routes to Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru

Kuwait, September 21,2022: Jazeera Airways announced the launch of two new routes to the cities of Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru in India from 30th October onwards.This will be eighth destinations of the airline in India. The Kuwait- Thiruvananthapuram route will be served on Tuesdays and Sundays, with return flights from Trivandrum leaving in the early morning of the next days. The Kuwait-Bengaluru route will be served on Thursdays and Sundays, with return flights from Bengaluru leaving in the early morning of the next day. Speaking of the new flights, Jazeera Chief Executive Officer, Rohit Ramachandran, said, “We are pleased to be extending our reach into India by the addition of these two new services, catering to the high demand from the expat and business communities in Kuwait and from other connecting GCC countries for flights”.

MoD launches Online portal for facilitating Raksha Mantri’s Awards for Excellence in Defence and Aerospace Sector 2021-22

Delhi, 16th Sept 2022: Ministry of Defence has launched an online portal for filing applications for Raksha Mantri’s Awards for Excellence in Defence and Aerospace Sector 2021-22 . The objective of Raksha Mantri’s Awards, managed by Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) under Department of Defence Production (DDP) is to give further boost to Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, for achieving self-reliance in Defence manufacturing and reward excellence in the fields of Indigenization, Innovation and Exports by the Indian Defence Industries (both Private as well as DPSUs/PSUs). This initiative will facilitate widening of Industrial base in the Defence and Aerospace sector, identify ‘hidden gems’ from Private Industries especially from the MSME/Start-Up segments and promote them as role models for others. Applications for Raksha Mantri’s Awards under various categories will be accepted only through the online Portal (https://rmawards.ddpmod.gov.in) and the processing of applications for the Awards will also be done online. Last date of filing online applications is September, 29, 2022. RM Award Cell of DGQA will be managing the portal. The awards for the year 2021-22 will be presented during DEFEXPO-22, scheduled to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 18 to 22 October 2022.

Raksha Mantri to participate in India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Tokyo

New Delhi, 8th Sept 2022: As per the information shared by MoD, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will participate in the 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Tokyo on September 08, 2022. He will be leaving for Japan soon after the completion of his visit to Mongolia. On a four-day official visit, RM will be accompanied by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. The Japanese side will be represented by Minister of Defence Yasukazu Hamada and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi. The 2+2 Dialogue will review bilateral cooperation across domains and chart out the way forward. India and Japan are pursuing a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. This year marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In addition to the 2+2 dialogue, Rajnath Singh will separately hold bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart to further strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. He is also scheduled to call on the Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida during the visit. The Raksha Mantri will also attend a community event organised by the Embassy of India in Tokyo and interact with the Indian diaspora in Japan.

The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
