Asia Pacific Flight Training Academy Signs MoU with AAI to set-up FTO at Kalaburagi

Hyderabad, July 13, 2021 Asia Pacific Flight Training,DGCA approved Flight Training Organization recently entered into an agreement with Airport Authority of India (AAI) for establishing a Flight Training Organization on Design, Build, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (DBOMT) basis at Kalaburagi Airport, Karnataka for 25 years. The Agreement was signed by Hemanth DP, Chief Executive Officer – Asia Pacific Flight Training & Gnaneswara Rao Airport Director (AAI), Kalaburagi Airport, Karnataka. On this occasion,Hemanth DP said,“I am thankful to AAI, DGCA & Ministry of Civil Aviation, for facilitating this initiative under the ‘Athmanirbhar Bharat’ & ‘Make in India’ vision in Pilot Training.”

Tom Kershaw appointed Chief Product & Technology Officer at Travelport

Langley, UK, 7 July 2021: Travelport, a worldwide leader in travel retail, today announced it has appointed Tom Kershaw as its new Chief Product and Technology Officer. Tom is a seasoned product and technology executive, with more than two decades of experience leading innovation, technical strategy and execution within both emerging and mature organizations undergoing transformation. He most recently held the title of Chief Technology Officer at one of the largest independent advertising platforms in the world, Magnite, Inc. (which recently acquired SpotX, following the merger between Telaria and Rubicon Project in 2020). VISTARA INAUGURATES SERVICES TO TOKYO HANEDA

Delhi, 07July 2021: Vistara inaugurated its non-stop flight between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda with first flight departed Delhi at 0300 hours (IST) and landed in Tokyo (Haneda) at 1450 hours (JST). Under the air bubble agreement between India and Japan, Vistara will fly once a week between the two cities using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Vistara’s Chief Executive Officer,Leslie Thng, said, “We are delighted to take India’s finest airline to Japan and provide an unmatched flying experience to our customers that exemplifies modern Indian hospitality with the highest global standards in safety, hygiene and operations. Women in Aviation Middle East awards scholarships worth over US$50,000

Dubai, July 6, 2021: The fifth edition of the Women in Aviation (WIA) Middle East Chapter’s General Assembly, held as a co-located event of the 20th edition of the Airport Show at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), has awarded scholarships worth over US$50,000 and honoured women who are helping the aviation industry gain gender diversity. For the first time, an exclusive awards programme had been conducted to honour the rising stars in aviation. The WIA General Assembly featured the first of its kind awards in the MENA region designed to recognize the achievements of organizations and individuals working in the aviation and aerospace domains in more than 19 countries. The recognition includes honouring key women who have been helping gender diversity in the aviation industry. This year’s winner is LilitTshughuryan who established and runs Akademikka Training Institute in Dubai. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA)-approved institute offers professional development courses in aviation and other domains. The award in the Educational Institution category for attracting the maximum number of students went to Alpha Aviation Academy (AAA) which is managed by Air Arabia and has state-of-the-art facilities for the pilots training. It is the Middle East’s leading pilot training provider and one of the largest providers of the Multi-Crew Pilot License in the world. It has trained over 650 students with more than 400 graduates who went on to fly with MENA’s first LCC based out of Sharjah. Mervat Sultan, Co-founder and President of WIA Middle East Chapter and one of the first women in the Arab world to obtain an FAA-GCAA flight dispatch license, says the movement towards enlisting more women in aviation in the Middle East region remains a continuous endeavour and this year’s event has been a big hit. Sultan, an executive at RamJet Aviation, an aviation support company, said this year WIA Middle East Chapter provided scholarships worth over US$50,000. NasimaHarraq, Michelle Troccoli and Chelsea R. Montgomery received Crew Resource Management (CRM) training course from Wolston Sky founded in Ras Al Khaimah to empower and educated aviation professionals by Captain Christina Tervo. Zineb Mohamed Sharif received two-year-duration full scholarship for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) from Vision Concept Aviation Training Institute (VCATI), a leading aviation learning hub founded in 2013 by Captain Mohammed Al Suwaidi, a former Flight Operation Inspector at UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Captain Mohamed Al Suwaidi, CEO of VCATI, said: “Our institute is open to students from all nationalities. In line with our policy to support the local community, we will start from the beginning of the next academic year giving a free scholarship annually to one of the deserving students to enrich new competencies in the aviation engineering sector that has huge potential.” The Middle East will have demand for 2945 new commercial aircraft over the next two decades, according to the Boeing. The American company’s Pilot and Technician Outlook 2020-2039 says the Middle East region will require 63,000 pilots, 63,000 technicians and 108,000 Cabin Crew members during this period. A report by Oliver Wyman says the Middle East airlines fleet size is projected to grow 2.1 per cent over the coming five years. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are the two key aviation markets in the region, together constituting approximately 73 per cent of the total fleet size in the AGCC aviation sector.

DHL Express launches non-contact delivery in India

Mumbai, July 1st, 2021: DHL Express, the international express service provider launched OTP-based non-contact delivery service in India, making it the first international logistics player to offer this service in the country.The launch of the non-contact delivery service will help to ensure maximum employee and customer safety, amidst the new normal. Satair And AES Sign Global Multi-Year Distribution Agreement

Copenhagen, Denmark, 29 June, 2021 Satair, an Airbus Services company, and AES Aircraft Elektro/Elektronik System GmbH, have signed a multi-year distribution agreement for selected part numbers designed for the aircraft cabin. The agreement covers global distribution rights on an exclusive basis for 23 part numbers including direct light supply in the galleys and lavatories, mood lighting in bar units, and the Switch Mode Power Supplies used in various areas of the aircraft cabin to power applications. AES GmbH is an international company serving customers in the aviation, space, and maritime industries. The company’s product portfolio includes, but is not limited to, aircraft cabin electronics, comprehensive electrical engineering services, electronic design, and certification services. Morten Olsen, Vice President Product Management, Satair, says: “We are excited to expand our relationship with AES and we look forward to continuing bringing benefits to our customers through our portfolio of cabin offerings.” As the exclusive distributor, Satair will be the single point of contact for spare parts covered by the agreement, and will, on the basis of a global network, bring improved support capabilities to its airline customers. Air One Aviation Acquires Quadrant’s Pilot Training Business

21 June 2021, London Air One Aviation has increased its service portfolio for aviation industry clients with the acquisition of UK-based pilot training business, Quadrant Systems Limited (QSL). Formed in 1994, Quadrant Systems operates a purpose-built flight simulation and training facility at Burgess Hill, West Sussex, providing UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) accredited Full Flight Training Simulators. The core elements of the purchase include training organisation, Quadrant Pilot, and four bay Full Flight Simulators. With this acquisition – which coincides with the final stages of Air One’s further purchase of Pier Seven Aviation FZC – Air One Aviation will provide pilot training using six simulators for Boeing 737NG, B737CL, B747-400, B757-200 and Airbus A320 aircraft crews. The training centre at Burgess Hill also includes briefing rooms and other pilot training aids. Paul Bennett, CEO of Air One Aviation Limited, stated: “I am delighted that we have completed the purchase of QSL, which has a superb reputation for delivering high quality, accredited pilot training services to many customers in the UK and across Europe. Combined with our planned acquisition of Pier Seven Aviation FZC in Sharjah, we will be able to offer a wider range of services on even more flight simulators and this positions us positively for future growth as the aviation industry starts to recover.” “We have been in discussion with Air One Aviation on how to build the best training capability and services for our customers worldwide in an aviation industry which is learning to adapt to a new business environment following the global Covid pandemic. AirAsia India operates with fully vaccinated crew on 9 flights across multiple metro sectors

India, 18 June, 2021: AirAsia India today operated 9 flights with fully vaccinated crew including cabin crew and pilots. The sectors flown by fully vaccinated crew included Bengaluru-Kolkata, Kolkata-Bengaluru, Bengaluru-Chennai, Chennai-Guwahati, Guwahati-Bengaluru, Bengaluru-Pune, Pune-Jaipur, Jaipur-Pune and Pune-Bengaluru. In keeping with AirAsia’s core values, ‘Safety Always’ and ‘People First,’ the airline has been conducting free inoculation drives for all its eligible Allstars and their dependants and became the first airline in India to announce that 99.5% of its guest-facing operational staff including Pilots, Cabin Crew, Security, Ground Staff, and Catering Operations had been inoculated with their first doses. The operating crew members on these sectors are fully vaccinated, having received both doses in line with guidelines from health authorities and after going through all the mandatory tests and certified by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sangeeta Kujur. Capt. Manish Uppal, Head of Operations, AirAsia India said, “This is commitment to stand tall against challenges, and continue flying high. The safety of our guests and our Allstars is primary and we are in the process of completing our vaccination drives covering the second dose for all eligible employees in operations and guest facing roles. A total 683 boxes(20.59 MT)of Covid Vaccine,527 Boxes (8.24MT)of oxygen concentrator, 42 Boxes (475 Kg) of Oximeter,30 Boxes (542 Kg) of COVID19 Detection Kit, 08 Boxes (224 Kg) of Vaccination Kitand 85 Boxes (612 Kg) of Black Fungus medicines have been transported through various airlinesfrom 1st May 2021 till 09thJune2021 through Jaipur Airport. To overcome the oxygen crisis, a total of 09 emptyoxygen tankers weretransportedfrom Jaipur to Jamnagar through Indian Airforce aircraft (C17)from 26thApril 2021 to16th May 2021. Apart from this, JaipurAirport is also following all the COVID19 related guidelines and protocols as per the instructions of Central and State Government to ensure a safe journey for passengers.The airport staff makes continuous requests to all the passengers, stakeholders, visitors, employees etc. to always follow COVID appropriate behaviour and maintain staggered timing to minimise crowding. To create awareness regarding COVID appropriate behaviour, ensuring safety of passengers, theairport is also displaying instructions through severalelectronic and permanent displays at the terminal. JaipurAirport has also organised Covid vaccination camp for employees of AAI and other stakeholders in collaboration and support from Govt. of Rajasthan, taking all safety measures into consideration. flydubai expands its network in Europe

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 13June2021: flydubai has announced the start of flights to Budapest and Ljubljana. The carrier will operate three weekly flights to Ljubljana from 24 September and four weekly flights to Budapest from 30 September. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
