    Korean Air to fully transition to electronic air waybill

    Seoul, 13th Sept, 2023: Korean Air will begin its full-scale digital transition to electronic air waybill (e-AWB) to replace conventional paper air cargo transport documents. The full transition will first apply to documents for general cargo departing from Korea bound for North America, Europe, Japan and other select markets. e-AWB is a digital replacement for traditional paper air waybills. Whereas paper air waybills require in-person visits for documentation, printing, and submission, the digital transition will streamline the entire process from reservations to final delivery. The transition will also enhance data quality and accuracy to allow the airline to share essential information more transparently. Simplifying processes and eliminating costs will also increase efficiency in the AWB framework. By going paperless, the airline will also be able to practice its ESG initiatives to make a sustainable impact. To minimize operational disruptions, Korean Air held consultations and completed trial operations with all stakeholders, cargo clients and forwarders. The airline will mandate e-AWB for Korea-outbound cargo starting from January 2024, and plans to expand the digital transition for all Korean Air Cargo departing from all global stations in due course. “Taking this digital step forward will bring an innovative paradigm to logistics, and we stand behind IATA’s effort to phase in e-AWB for air cargo digital transformation, ” said a Korean Air official. “We believe that Korean Air’s commitment to international industry initiatives will help raise Korea’s air cargo industry competitiveness.”

    Flights operation commences from Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat

    Rajkot,11th September, 2023: Flight operations from the Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat commenced on 10th September, 2023 with the arrival of the first flight from Indore. 11 flights operated on the first day with 2546 passengers travelling through the new airport. The New International Airport in Hirasar at Rajkot, Gujrat which is one of the important gateways connecting Western part of Gujarat to the rest of India and world, was inaugurated by the Prime Minster Narendra Modi on 27th July, 2023. The airport’s terminal building is capable to serve 500 passengers during peak hours; further airport terminal capacity will be increased to 2800 passengers during peak hours and 35 lakh passengers annually. 3040 meters long Runway of the airport is equipped with Instrument Landing System (ILS) for facilitation of 24 X 7 operations. The airport is suitable for parking of 14 aircraft to cater to more flights. The New Airport at Rajkot has an amalgamation of modern technology and sustainable features that will not only enhance ease of travel, but will also help to reduce carbon footprint.

    Heart Aerospace, Honeywell to collaborate on Flight Controls for ES-30 electric airplane

    Swedan, 11th Sept 2023: Swedish electric airplane maker Heart Aerospace and Honeywell have announced a collaboration to integrate Honeywell’s next-generation flight control system into the new ES-30 regional electric airplane.Honeywell was selected by Heart Aerospace for the Joint Definition Phase of Heart’s ES-30 airplane, and the goal, once the phase has been completed successfully, is to fully integrate Honeywell’s compact Fly-by-Wire system into development for production. “We are thrilled to welcome Honeywell to the ES-30 program. With its long track record in flight controls, they are an ideal collaboration partner for Heart Aerospace as we strive to decarbonize air travel before the end of this decade,” said Anders Forslund, co-founder and CEO of Heart Aerospace. Honeywell’s next-generation compact Fly-by-Wire system is in an advanced stage of development on multiple aircraft, and its functions are adaptable to the ES-30, allowing Heart to bring its airplane to market quickly and cost-effectively. “Honeywell’s flight controls provide the ideal solution for Heart’s mission to revitalize and electrify the regional transport market,” said Vipul Gupta, President, Electronic Solutions, Honeywell Aerospace. “Honeywell’s all-electric compact Fly-by-Wire is a ready-now solution based on decades of flight control experience in all aircraft types, and that reduces development time and risk for Heart.” The ES-30 is a regional electric airplane with a 30-passenger standard seating capacity and is driven by electric motors powered by batteries. It will have a fully electric zero-emissions range of 200 kilometers, an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometers with 30 passengers, and flexibility to fly up to 800 kilometers with 25 passengers, all with typical airline reserves. Heart Aerospace has 250 firm orders for the ES-30, with options and purchase rights for an additional 120 planes.

    Air India’s ‘Project Abhinandan’ to elevate airport experience

    Delhi, 11 September 2023: Air India has rolled out ‘Project Abhinandan’ aimed at providing personalised and hassle-free on-ground experience to Air India guests at airports.As part of the project, Air India has deployed specially trained Service Assurance Officers at 16 major Indian airports, who will offer on-ground assistance across airport touchpoints to Air India guests who may require it – at check-in area or lounges, near the boarding gates, during transit, or at the arrival hall. Air India’s Service Assurance Officers are trained to sense passenger concerns at airports and will be placed at strategic touchpoints to proactively engage with guests, provide support, or troubleshoot any issues. They are also trained to address unforeseen issues such as missed flights, delayed baggage delivery and misconnections at airports, among others. Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience & Ground Handling Officer, Air India, said, “Airport experiences can be daunting for many air travellers, despite how frequently one travels. ‘Project Abhinandan’ is our sincere effort to simplify the airport experience for our guests and make a meaningful difference to their overall travel experience, and more broadly, to make them feel at ease and welcomed when they fly with us.” “Flying is a wonderful experience, and we want our guests to enjoy it in the most seamless ways possible. We are constantly evaluating new ways to enhance that experience in our effort to transform Air India into a truly world-class airline. ‘Project Abhinandan’ service is a step in that direction,” Dogra said. Air India’s Service Assurance Officers at airports will provide assistance to any Air India guest, regardless of the cabin class one is booked in, requiring airport assistance at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Varanasi and Vishakhapatnam. The Service Assurance Officers are available at the airports in addition to the other Air India and ground handling agencies’ staff. Air India has already recruited and deployed over 100 Service Assurance Officers across airports.

    Air Astana inaugurates new service to Israel

    Almaty, 7th Sept.2023 Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, launched a new direct air services from Almaty to Tel Aviv, today. The new flight is scheduled to operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays using Airbus A321LR aircraft. The outbound service from Almaty has a flight time of 6 hours 45 minutes, with the return flight from Tel Aviv taking 5 hours and 50 minutes. The cost of a round-trip Economy ticket starts from US$603 and Business Class ticket starts from US$1438. Israeli citizens can stay in Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days. This new route is destined to strengthen business, trade, cultural and tourism links between the two countries.

    Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways expand partnership to enhance commercial and operational collaboration

    Abu Dhabi,7th Sept 2023: Air France-KLM Group and Etihad Airways today signed a MoU aiming at enhancing their collaboration opportunities across passenger operations, loyalty programmes, talent development, and maintenance.The signing ceremony took place at the Air France-KLM Group’s headquarters in Paris, France in the presence of Angus Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer, Air France-KLM, and Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer, Etihad Airways. Through this partnership, and subject to any necessary regulatory approvals, Air France-KLM and Etihad contemplate expanding their codeshare and interline agreements initiated in 2012. As a first step, more than 40 new routes covering destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Australia have been made available for booking as of today, for travel as early as the winter 2023 season. The MoU also proposes the ability for frequent flyers of both Flying Blue and Etihad Guest to earn and redeem miles with Air France, KLM, and Etihad. The airlines will also explore terminal co-location, reciprocal lounge access and ground handling, among other initiatives. Etihad currently operates daily flights to both Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol from Abu Dhabi international airport. Air France will start operating daily flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Abu Dhabi International Airport from October 29, 2023. Angus Clarke, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Air France-KLM, said: “I’m delighted to further develop our partnership with Etihad Airways. This 11-year collaboration is now expanding even further, as we aim to explore opportunities in maintenance and loyalty, in addition to enhancing our route network for the benefit of our customers from all around the world. The attractiveness of Abu Dhabi as a destination and a hub, powered by Etihad’s large footprint spanning South and Southeast Asia, as well as Australia, brings significant richness to this partnership. This moment marks our shared commitment to providing seamless, premium, customer-centric travel experiences to our shared global customer base.” Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer at Etihad, said: “We are excited to expand our collaboration with Air France-KLM, with this MoU serving as a testament to our shared vision of creating premium journeys for our guests. This MoU builds on our existing partnership by exploring deeper network enhancements as we offer improved connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Paris, and leveraging the extensive AF-KL network to Europe and beyond. It reaffirms Etihad’s intent to bolster Abu Dhabi’s cultural and economic growth as we look forward to welcoming more guests to our home enjoying better travel benefits and enhanced customer experiences along the way.” Earlier this year, Air France-KLM announced it had signed a MoU with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism with the aim of reinforcing connectivity between Europe and Abu Dhabi.

    Air India enters interline partnership with Bangkok Airways

    Delhi,7th Sept.2023: Air India has entered an interline partnership with Bangkok Airways. The partnership enables Air India guests to take convenient connections via Air India’s Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Singapore gateways to and from 10 destinations in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodiaon Bangkok Airways’ route network. The scope of the agreement between the two airlines includes Inter Airline Through Check-In (IATCI) implementation, which enables guests to receive their boarding passes at the first point of departure for all the travel sectors on a single ticket, and have their baggage checked-in through to their final destinations. Air India guests taking connecting flights on Bangkok Airways will also receive complimentary access to Bangkok Airways’ Boutique Lounges and Courtesy Corners at available airports, regardless of the cabin class they fly. Air India and Bangkok Airways have also entered a Special Prorate Agreement, which allows both carriers to file ‘through fares’ on routes covering each other’s networks. Nipun Aggarwal,Chief Commercial & Transformation Office, Air India,said, “One of our strategic priorities at Air India is to offer our guests the choice of flying to more places through our own as well as an augmented global network. The points outside of Thailand include Luang Prabang in Laos;and Phnom Penh, Siem Reap in Cambodia.

    BBN Airlines Indonesia gets AOP to operate freight services

    Jakarta, 5th Sept.2023: BBN Airlines Indonesia, a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, that specialises in the provision of ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance & Insurance), air charter, and air freight services is the latest addition to Indonesia’s aviation industry. ACMI is considered relatively new in Indonesia, and there are very few service providers. With this expertise in hand, BBN Airlines Indonesia is expected to give an extra boost to support the ever-growing aviation needs in Indonesia. For the three services above, BBN Airlines Indonesia was awarded an Airline Operator Certificate issued by the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia on August 31st, 2023. The AOC was issued to BBN Airlines Indonesia upon successfully completing five stages of Pre-Application, Formal Application, Document Compliance, Demonstration and Inspection, and Certification; all of which complied with ICAO regulations and applicable aviation laws in Indonesia. By completing all certification stages, BBN Airlines Indonesia was declared qualified after having fully met all technical and safety requirements to be granted an AOC, and therefore can immediately conduct commercial flights. “The AOC is a testament to our serious commitment and readiness to support Indonesia’s aviation needs, in all sectors from airlines, tour operators, and cargo, to logistics. We have witnessed a high demand for aircraft provision, especially during high seasons such as Umrah, Haj, Eid, and other special holidays that result in a large surge in goods distribution, and we have conducted thorough research on that. This is why we are confident that this is an excellent opportunity for us to be able to give much-needed support to the airline, logistics, and tour operator companies so that, in return, they can give customers a fast, reliable, safe, and comfortable service,” says Martynas Grigas, Chairman of BBN Airlines Indonesia. Immediately following the issuance of its AOC, BBN Airlines Indonesia will operate a fleet consisting of two Boeing 737-800F specializing in air freight services. The commitment to get the aircraft fleet ready has been an important part that makes BBN Airlines Indonesia stand out among the other competitors in the ACMI field. “ACMI providers are still a rarity, especially in Asia. We are offering wet lease as well as mixed-crews or damp lease that can be custom tailored to the client’s specific needs. While the lessee gets an additional aircraft or more, the lessor gives a full guarantee on the airworthiness of the aircraft, crew, maintenance, and aircraft insurance. On the other hand, the lessee will be responsible for the other operational aspects such as fuel, and ground handling services,” says Mr. Grigas. The ACMI services provided by BBN Airlines Indonesia offer a full solution to the needs of Indonesian airline companies.     MoCA and CII hosts International Aerospace Conference in Bhopal

    Bhopal, 2nd Sept 2023; The International Aerospace Conference is a G20 initiative in the aerospace sector under G20 and B20 priority, focusing on developing inclusive global value chains for Global trade and Investment and aims to promote and strengthen trade and investment among the G20 countries. Jyotiraditya M Scindia said that now it is time for global aerospace industry players to supplant themselves to India and there are multiple reasons for it: A) Development of Infrastructure: Indian civil aviation sector had only 74 airports nine years ago; now it has moved to 148 airports including heliports and water aerodromes. And the government is committed to take this number upwards of two hundred in coming three to five years; B) Availability of aircrafts: Earlier there were 400 planes in 2014 now this number has reached almost 700 and nearly 1000 more on order; C) Ecosystem Development: The disinvestment of Air India has brought about a transformation in civil aviation industry in the country, not only for passengers, not only airports, but also for MROs, for manufacturing sector, and for cargo. The huge orders of aircraft placed by Air India and Indigo and the emergence of new players like Akasha is another example of the changes that are taking place in Indian civil aviation industry; D) Thrust on Regional Connectivity: UDAN has given birth to 4 new regional airlines in the country. The hub and connectivity network we have been talking about for decades is a reality in India today. Talking about the aviation infrastructure in the city of Gwalior, Scindia assured that the development of the new integrated domestic terminal of the Gwalior Airport will be completed within shortest record-breaking time of fifteen month. He also assured greater and consistent support from the government for the holistic growth of aerospace manufacturing in India. During interaction with the dignitaries, the Minister emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we believe in being monumental in our approach rather than being incremental and this stands true for the civil aviation sector as well, where liberalized drone policy & Production Linked Incentive Scheme for drone and its components, implementation of DigiYatra, New MRO Guidelines, and helicopters for last mile connectivity – have made the sector more accessible for its customers.
