    De Havilland Canada launches the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G

The Classic 300-G is the fifth generation of the Twin Otter aircraft, joining the current Series 400. All DHC-6 Twin Otters carry passengers, transport VIPs, move cargo, conduct medivac operations, and perform special missions in the world’s most unforgiving environments. When mounted on amphibious floats, these aircraft move seamlessly between paved surfaces and water-landing areas. As De Havilland Canada continues to grow its footprint in Canadian aerospace, the launch of the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G will bolster the local economy by creating 80 and 91 permanent production jobs in Calgary, Alberta and Victoria, British Columbia, respectively.

    Israel MoD leads delegation to Paris Air Show following record-breaking defense exports in 2022

    Paris Air Show, 19.06.2023: The Israel Ministry of Defense’s International Defense Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT) will inaugurate the Israeli national pavilion at the highly esteemed 2023 Paris Air Show together with 17 Israeli defense industries. This event comes following a record-breaking year for Israeli defense exports, which reached an unprecedented peak amounting to over $12.5 billion dollars in 2022, compared to $11.3 billion in 2021. Israeli defense exports have doubled in less than a decade and increased by 50% in 3 years. The Israeli delegation is led by Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, IMoD Director General Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, Director of SIBAT Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yair Kulas, along with senior representatives from the Israeli defense establishment. The leaders will engage in discussions and foster collaborations with global counterparts to further advance Israeli defense industries and strengthen official partnerships. Renowned as the world’s largest air and aerospace defense exhibition, the Paris Air Show attracts a diverse range of exhibitors, official delegations, professionals, and audiences.     MoD signs Rs 500 crore contract to strengthen Indian Army’s communication system

    17th June 2023, New Delhi: Giving a further boost to indigenous manufacturing of defence equipment and incentivize the private sector to engage in realizing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Ministry of Defence inked a contract on June 15, 2023 in New Delhi with ICOMM Tele Limited, Hyderabad for the procurement of 1,035 numbers of 5/7.5 Ton Radio Relay Communication equipment containers. The value of the contract under Buy (Indian) Category is nearly Rs 500 crore. The delivery of the containers is scheduled to commence from the current Financial Year 2023-24. The Radio Relay Containers will address a long overdue requirement of mobile communication detachments of the Indian Army. These containers will be utilized to provide a protected environment for communication equipment to function in a failsafe and reliable manner. The containers would be mounted on authorized specialist vehicles and moved as per operational requirements. The company would produce the containers with all equipment and sub-systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers. This will give further boost to the indigenous manufacturing of defence equipment and stimulate the private sector to actively engage in realizing the vision of Aatmnirbhar Bharat. The development of such state-of-the-art equipment will also help in boosting exports to friendly countries.

    India’s Domestics Pax marks annual growth of 36.10% and monthly growth of 15.24%

    16th June 2023, New Delhi: The Civil Aviation sector in the country has witnessed an impressive growth, with the number of passengers carried by Domestic airlines growing substantially. Based on the traffic data provided by different Domestic airlines, the passenger count reached an impressive milestone of 636.07 lakhs during January-May 2023, reflecting a significant annual growth rate of 36.10%, compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year of Jan-May 2022, during which the passenger count was 467.37 lakhs. In the month of May 2022, passenger count was 114.67 lakh, which in May 2023 rose to 132.41 lakh, registering a Month-on-Month growth of 15.24%. This consistent growth is a testament to the collective efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in fostering a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem. The overall passenger number in May 2023 increased by 3.26 lakhs (2.52%) as compared to April 23. The notable increase in the volume of passengers demonstrates the strength and durability of India’s aviation sector, showcasing the continuous endeavours to improve connectivity and offer convenient travel choices to our country’s citizens. The higher load factor of 636.07 lakhs passengers during January – May 2023 suggests a rising demand for air transportation, underscoring the favourable direction of the aviation industry. Also, the number of complaints decreased in May 2023 vis-à-vis May 2019. In May 2019, a total of 746 passenger related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines. Whereas, in May 2023, a total of 556 passenger related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines. According to Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, “The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders have played a crucial role in propelling the growth of the aviation sector and establishing India as a prominent global aviation hub. The consistent expansion of the domestic airline industry and the birth of regional airlines are strengthening our economy, connecting people throughout the nation and ensuring last mile connectivity through the UDAN Scheme. The Ministry remains committed to fostering a favourable environment for the aviation industry to flourish and promote sustainable growth while ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.” This accomplishment is an outcome of the careful and thorough planning, operational effectiveness, and proactive actions undertaken by the industry.     Jazeera Airways Increases flight frequency from Bengaluru and Hyderabad

    India,15thJune 2023: Jazeera Airways recently increased the frequency of its direct from Bangalore and Hyderabad.Starting this month,the airline will operate 4 flights per week from Bengaluru and 6 flights per week from Hyderabad. Previously this the airline operated two and three flights a week to these popular destinations. Having started its India operations with Hyderabad in October 2017, Jazeera Airways has grown steadily in the last five years to serve six destinations in India. The airline currently operates 24 direct services to Kuwait and beyond from India. For the summer season this year, Jazeera Airways has introduced two new European destinations – Belgrade in Serbia and Tirana in Albania and will also resume flights to Prague, Czech Republic and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The airline also recently launched flights to Larnaca in Cyprus, Sphinx in Egypt, Tivat in Montenegro and Shiraz in Iran while doubling the frequency of flights to Riyadh. With over 66 destinations, including Tblisi, Istanbul, Baku and Cairo, Jazeera Airways continues to be a popular choice for travellers from India. By operating its own airport terminal, Jazeera Terminal 5 or T5, Jazeera makes transiting through Kuwait both comfortable and convenient.

    Vistara expands bilateral codeshare with Lufthansa, enhances international connectivity

    Mumbai,15th June 2023: Vistara, India’s leading full-service carrier has expanded its codeshare partnership with Lufthansa airlines, enabling enhanced connectivity to Vistara customers while travelling across Europe. As a result of this agreement, the 12 key destinations that get included in Vistara’s network are Amsterdam (AMS), Stockholm (ARN), Berlin (BER), Budapest (BUD), Copenhagen (CPH), Rome (FCO), Hamburg (HAM), Helsinki (HEL), Lisbon (LIS), Munich (MUC), Oslo (OSL), Prague (PRG). The bilateral codeshare agreement between Vistara and Lufthansa enables both airlines to market and sell flights on each other’s networks, which will offer convenient travel options to customers. Vistara and Lufthansa had entered into a unilateral codeshare agreement, back in 2019, enabling Lufthansa to add its designator code (LH) to Vistara flights to 18 destinations in India.     Egypt Announces Launch of Egypt Airshow 2024

    14th June 2023, Cairo: The highly anticipated Egypt Airshow is set to take place in May 2024, as officially announced during a press conference on 8th June 2023. The event is officially supported by the Ministry of Defence, the Egyptian Air Force, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.The event is set to take place at El Alamein New International Airport, in one of Egypt’s most prominent new tourist cities, and will showcase cutting-edge advancements in defence, space and commercial aviation. The four-day event will include a range of features including a world class exhibition with space for VIP hospitality chalets and hospitality, a high-level conference, a fully-hosted VIP delegation programme in addition to a static park and flying displays featuring the latest aircraft. The theme of the air show is “The Gateway to Aerospace in Africa & The Middle East”. The event expects participation from more than 250 exhibitors, alongside a display of 50 aircraft on the static park. Over 100 distinguished VIPs are set to attend, engaging in a tailored delegation program that includes personalised meetings with exhibitors. Esteemed delegations are anticipated to attend from Air Forces, Civil Aviation Authorities, and Space Agencies, further enhancing the international significance of the event. The Airshow will be organised by Arabian World Events with the full support of the Ministry of Defence, the Egyptian Air Force, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.     Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh to get a New Terminal Building

    15thJune, 2023,New Delhi: Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh is soon going to get a New Terminal Building with enhanced capacity and better services.AAI undertook the upgradation work of Tezu Airport to cater to the increase in air traffic and provide modern day facilities to the travellers. The works undertaken are extension of Runway (1500m x 30m), construction of new apron for two ATR-72 type aircraft, 75m wide runway strip, construction of boundary wall, and construction of New Terminal Building and a Fire Station-cum-ATC Tower at a cost of Rs. 170 cr. The New Terminal built in an area of 4000 sqm., is equipped to serve 300 passengers during peak hours. The terminal has been designed to prioritize functionality, efficiency, and passenger comfort. The form of the building takes inspiration from simplest of concepts as it has been perceived as a single spacious volume, through which passengers can seamlessly flow from city side to the aircraft. The building interior emanates a sense of calm, uncluttered spaces that offer a place for passengers to relax, away from the stress of their long journeys. The interiors of the building also depict local handicrafts, murals and promote tourist destinations. The terminal will provide all modern passenger facilities like VIP lounge, food & beverage counters, restaurant and retail shops etc. The new terminal building is also equipped with various sustainability features like – Double Insulated Roofing System to reduce heat gain, LED Lighting, ECBC compliant equipment, Low Heat Gain Glazing, rainwater catchment in an underground water tank, on-site Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) with the provision of reuse of treated waste water for landscaping, refill make-up tank for HVAC system, and accessibility features for differently abled People (Divyangjan), etc. Tezu airport is currently connected to Imphal, Dibrugarh & Guwahati through regular scheduled flights by Alliance Air & Flybig.The upgraded Tezu Airport will not only improve the passenger experience but also contribute significantly to the development of the local economy. The airport will also be able to handle more passengers, thereby increasing the flow of tourists and business travellers to the region. This will help in creating new jobs and boosting the local tourism industry.

    MoT to organise the fourth G20 Tourism Working Group and Tourism Ministerial Meeting

    15th June 2023, Delhi: The Ministry of Tourism is organising the fourth G20 Tourism Working Group meeting and Tourism Ministerial Meeting from 19th to 22 June 2023 in Goa. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Secretary Tourism, Smt V. Vidyavathi said that under India’s G20 Tourism Track, the Tourism Working Group is working on five inter-connected priority areas, which are Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management. Giving more details, the Secretary said that there are two key deliverables of the Tourism Working Group, which are GOA Roadmap for Tourism as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development goals and G20 Tourism Ministers’ Declaration both of which will be finalised shortly. During the meeting, G20 member countries, invited countries, and international organizations will welcome and endorse both the documents. She also added that the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting and Tourism Ministerial Meeting in Goa aims to strengthen economic growth, preserve cultural heritage, and promote tourism and sustainable development of the region. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, welcomes the participation of Tourism Ministers, Heads of Delegations and delegates from G20 member countries, invited countries, and international organizations to collectively work towards advancing the tourism sector and achieving the UN sustainable development goals 2030. A side event on ‘Making Cruise Tourism a Model for Sustainable & Responsible Travel’ will be organized , focusing on strategies to promote cruise tourism. The event will see the participation of G20 member countries, invited countries, international organizations, and industry stakeholders. The event will witness deliberations on the challenges and opportunities in the growth of cruise tourism globally. A panel discussion featuring esteemed speakers from G20 Member countries and guest countries will shed light on country specific policies and initiatives on varied aspects of cruise tourism, its growth and need to make cruise tourism sustainable and responsible. Smt V. Vidyavathi said that, along the sidelines of the main event , a national level side event is also being organized which will focus on ‘Making India a Hub for Cruise Tourism’, to deliberate on various challenges and opportunities for developing Cruise Tourism in the country following the principles of sustainability. The deliberation upon Multi Facets of Cruise Tourism (Coastal, Island, Regional and Yachting), perspectives from Coastal States, private and public stakeholders in inland waterways, perspectives from Riverine States will be the focus areas of discussion during the event. The event will see the participation of key States and Union Territories, Industry Stakeholders, national and international experts. She also informed that “The Ministry of Tourism is also organizing a side event ‘Towards a circular economy of plastics in tourism – the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative’ in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This side event will focus on encouraging engagement of tourism stakeholders to address plastic pollution through circular approaches across the tourism value chain. The event will encompass high-level introductory remarks and a keynote presentation on the action framework proposed by the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative (GTPI). These interventions will be followed by a panel discussion with tourism stakeholders and a signing ceremony to welcome the adherence of several organizations to the GTPI. Further, a ‘Public Private Dialogue: Importance of Travel & Tourism to the G20 Economies’ is also being co-organized by the Ministry of Tourism in Goa on 21st June 2023 in association with World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The Dialogue is an opportunity for participants to share their priorities and concerns and identify opportunities for mutual support and greater public-private partnership. This discussion will align and provide a private sector perspective on the 5 priority areas set out for the G20 tourism track. The Dialogue will start by opening the conversation on the respective importance and relevance of these priorities to the private sector and potential areas of support and collaboration from the public sector. The Secretary informed that good practices and case studies on sustainable tourism by participating countries will be shared on a Dashboard which is being created for the purpose.It will be a dynamic dashboard which will serve as a learning platform for various countries and these case studies will continue to be uploaded on it for coming next three years, she added. Secretary Tourism also remarked that to celebrate the ‘International Day of Yoga’ on June 21, which coincides with the G20 4th Tourism Working Group Meeting and Tourism Ministerial Meeting, a special yoga session has been organized by the state government of Goa. This session will offer an enchanting experience of yoga to all G20 Tourism Ministers and delegates, providing them with a moment of serenity and mindfulness amidst the busy proceedings of the meeting. It highlights the significance of incorporating wellness practices in the tourism sector and emphasizes the importance of holistic well-being. On the occasion, Additional Secretary, Shri Rakesh Verma gave a presentation highlighting the important events and schedule of the meeting. Various cultural programs will be organized to highlight and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Goa to the international G20 delegates. Some of the choreographed programs planned are: Lamp Dance, Kathak Dance, GoanMandoMusic and Dance presentation, Dekhni Dance, Mussal Khel (Pastel Dance) and Gomant Rang. Delegates will also have the opportunity to experience the local attractions of Goa. Excursion visits have been planned to Lower Aguada Fort and Jail Museum, and experiencing the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Churches and Convents of Goa viz. the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Church of St Francis of Assisi and Se Cathedra land Archaeological Museum. During the meeting, the delegates will also be visiting the Art and Craft Bazaar organized by the State Government showcasing local handicrafts, work of artisans, signifying the importance of community participation.     India Emerges as a Global Leader in LEED Zero Projects

    15th June 2023,Delhi: The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) announced India as a top country with LEED Zero green building projects. The findings show India as a global leader in LEED Zero certifications, outperforming both the United States and China. The announcement is part of Net Zero Buildings Week, an annual campaign that aims to raise awareness about the benefits of net zero buildings and their potential in reducing carbon emissions and fostering a low-carbon future. India has 73 LEED Zero certified projects, comprising 45% of the more than 150 total LEED Zero certifications, with Haryana and Tamil Nadu leading the way in certifications. The United States and China have the second and third most LEED Zero certifications, with 47 (30%) and 15 (10%) certifications, respectively. India-based real estate developer DLF is the leader globally in total LEED Zero certifications with 45 certifications, followed by ITC Group with 15 certifications. The LEED Zero projects – including office spaces, hospitality facilities, retail malls, industrial manufacturing projects and data centres – serve a mix of sectors. While the private sector is helping India make strides in net zero certifications, nearly one-third of all carbon emissions in India come from the building and construction sector. Net Zero Buildings Week aims to bring together partners to showcase resources, thought leadership and best practices in an effort to advance net zero buildings around the world. Commenting on the findings, Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, managing director of Southeast Asia and Middle East for GBCI India, says: “As large emitters of carbon emissions, buildings play a significant role in helping us achieve our global climate goals. India’s leadership position in LEED Zero projects reflects its commitment to sustainability and the adoption of innovative green building practices. It is also in line with India’s ambitious target of achieving net zero GHG emissions by 2070. We are proud to partner with companies that are leading in our trajectory to reach net zero and creating a greener and more sustainable built environment.” A complement to LEED certification, LEED Zero recognizes projects that have reached net zero or net positive status in the categories of carbon, energy, water or waste. To date, there are more than 35 million certified square feet of LEED Zero projects. Net Zero Buildings Week is observed globally from 12–16 June as a platform to showcase and promote the advantages of net zero buildings in shaping a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
