    Texel Air launches a sister airline Texel Air Australasia located at Auckland,New Zealand

    14th June 2023, Auckland: Texel Air Australasia was officially launched from Auckland International Airport as New Zealand’s newest airline operating the B737- 800BCF. The airlines will add two additional B737-800BCFs to the fleet by December 2023. Texel Air, an established cargo airline and MRO based in the Kingdom of Bahrain, is expanding operations into Australasia with the B737- 800BCF, the industry benchmark aircraft supporting regional logistic operators.At present it operates Boeing 737 freighter aircraft from Bahrain International Airport with two B737-700FC aircraft, two B737-800BCF aircraft and one B737-300F aircraft. Texel Air was established in Bahrain in 2013 by Chisholm Enterprises WLL.The New Zealand operations increase the group fleet to six aircraft with further aircraft on order for delivery to New Zealand during 2023. It has been operating the B737-300F (A9C – APC) in New Zealand since 3 April 2023 under contract to NZ Post/Parceline Express in preparation for the arrival of the B737-800 (MSN 29985) ZK-TXE. The New Zealand operations have been supported by flight crew and engineers from Bahrain. The venture into Australasia initially commenced with domestic operations in New Zealand under contract for launch customers Parceline Express and NZ Post. Saturday 10 June 2023 marked the official launch of the New Zealand airline in Auckland. The event hosted by Boeing, was held in the NZ Post hangar where ZK – TXE aircraft was on display. In attendance during the evening were representatives from Government agencies, delegates from the aviation industry as well as major logistics companies from New Zealand and Australia. Joining those attendees were representatives of the Bahrain Civil Aviation Authority. The Texel Air group plans to expand its fleet to ten aircraft by 2026 primarily flying in Australia and New Zealand and between the two countries supporting clients through ACMI services for the express, post and general cargo markets. Texel Air Australasia will benefit from a proven 10 years of operational experience from Texel Air Bahrain to establish an enduring and stable bond between the two distant island nations of New Zealand and Bahrain.     Jettwings Airways gets MOCA NOC, to start operation with ERJ175 in North East

    United Airlines and Eve Air Mobility to Bring First Electric Commuter Flights

    14th June 2023,Melbourne: Eve Air Mobility and United Airlines announced plans to bring Urban Air Mobility (UAM) to San Francisco by launching electric commuter flights throughout the Bay Area. The announcement is an important first step as both companies will be working with local and state officials, infrastructure, energy and technology providers to ensure the appropriate infrastructure is in place to introduce electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft flights. The companies are also working together to identify origin and destination areas and the future route network for Urban Air Mobility (UAM). “Our shared goal is to provide residents and visitors to the San Francisco Bay area with efficient and cost-competitive transportation in one of the most densely populated urban areas in the U.S.,” said Andre Stein, co-CEO of Eve Air Mobility. “The Bay Area is perfect for eVTOL flights given its size, traffic, focus on sustainability, innovation and commitment to add other options for mobility.” “Urban Air Mobility has the potential to revolutionize how United customers work, live, and travel,” said Michael Leskinen, President of United Airlines VenturesSM. “Eve’s proposed route is a critical first step towards making this all-electric and quiet commute a reality for Bay Area residents.” In 2022, United announced a $15 million investment in Eve Air Mobility and a conditional purchase agreement for 200 eVTOLs plus 200 options, part of its strategy to invest in cutting-edge technologies as the airline stakes out is position as a leader in investing in aviation sustainability and innovation technologies. United’s investment in Eve was driven in part by confidence in the potential growth opportunities in the UAM market and Eve’s unique relationship with Embraer, a trusted aircraft manufacturer with a proven track record of building and certifying aircraft over the company’s 53-year history. A key piece of the relationship includes access to Embraer’s global service centers, parts warehouses and field service technicians, paving the way for a reliable operation. Upon entry into service, United could have its entire eVTOL fleet serviced by Eve’s service and support network. Eve’s eVTOL will offer United’s customers a quick, economical and lower-carbon way to get to its hub airports and commute in dense urban environments, as compared with conventional air taxis and other forms of traditional public transportation. Eve’s eVTOL is 100% electric and has a range of 60 miles (100 kilometers) allowing it to complete a variety of urban air mobility missions in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its human-centered design better ensures the comfort of passengers, the pilot and the community by minimizing noise. The aircraft features a lift + cruise configuration with dedicated rotors for vertical flight and fixed wings to fly on cruise, with no components required to change position during flight. It will be piloted at launch but evolving towards uncrewed operations in the future. In addition to a new, efficient transportation option, Eve noted that eVTOL flights in the Bay Area are expected to have a positive economic impact on the community including new employment opportunities. Positions ranging from pilots and aircraft service technicians to training and technical services are among the numerous roles that will be needed as eVTOL flights are introduced and expand. The development of the necessary infrastructure to support eVTOL operations is also expected to contribute value and employment opportunities to the community. Eve’s eVTOL is scheduled to enter service in 2026.

    CSMIA completes recarpeting of secondary Runway 14/32

    Mumbai, 12th June, 2023: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), diligently worked towards the major re-carpeting project for its secondary runway – Runway 14/32. With meticulous planning, seamless execution, and a strong commitment to strict timelines and safe operations, CSMIA has successfully achieved this crucial infrastructure enhancement as per schedule. This is a step forward in enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining the highest safety standards for air travel. CSMIA operates one of the busiest single-crossover runways in the world with an average of 950 flights. Thus, making it imperative that the runways are kept in optimal conditions to maintain continuous and safe aircraft operations during landing and take-off. The recarpeting initiative, which commenced on December 9, 2022, has concluded as planned, with completion achieved onJune 10, 2023. CSMIA employed a meticulously structured approach to ensure a smooth and efficient project execution for its secondary runway 14/32, where an average of about 200 personnel worked daily to provide efficient qualitative effort to achieve the most exceptional result possible. A comprehensive daily program, featuring specific targets, was carefully planned and diligently monitored.To ensure the project’s efficiency and swift progress, the runway remained closed for approximately 12 hours daily. This uninterrupted period enabled the project team to execute their tasks meticulously. The major resurfacing work covered a substantial area, with the runway spanning an impressive length of 2210 meters (excluding the intersection portion) and boasting a breadth of 75 meterswhich led to the upgradation of all stressed portions of the runway surfaceby laying about 72,500 metric ton (MT)asphalt. CSMIA adopted the widely acclaimed “Mill & Fill”technique for Runway 14/32 which are carefully orchestrated steps. That includes precise removal of existing Airfield Ground Lighting fittings by core cutting, subsequent core filling with quick set concrete, precise milling of the existing surface to the required depth, precisely overlaying with layers of Asphalt (DBM, AC) using advanced paver machines, followed by coring on the new surface to fix the fittings as per the planned strip chart. Finally, comprehensive testing and commissioning were conducted after the meticulous installation of all necessary fittings. The completion of the recarpeting project signifies a significant leap forward for CSMIA, delivering long-term benefits and further solidifying its commitment to maintenance excellence, operational safety, and efficient flightoperations. The overlay process enhances the cross slopes, thereby enhancing the runway’s ability to efficiently drain off surface water, especially during monsoon periods. Moreover, the recarpeting work significantly improves the runway’s friction value, thus augmenting overall operational efficiency. Throughout the project’s duration, CSMIA implemented comprehensive measures to ensure flight operations remained uninterrupted. The airport continually endeavours to provide advanced technology that helps in allowing airlines to operate efficiently and with ease. Through these developments, CSMIA has been able to provide the best-in-class standards for airlines operating from Mumbai, while creating better efficacy.

    Change of Command of Air Force Station Faridabad

    New Delhi, 10th June 2023: Group Captain Kapil Sharma took over command of Air Force Station Faridabad from Group Captain KS Ganesh on 05 Jun 23 in a befitting ceremony at the Station. Group Captain Kapil Sharma was commissioned in the Logistics branch of Indian Air Force in December 1997. He has held various appointments in Operational bases and Base Repair Depots during his service career. He has undergone Strategic Management and Defence Acquisition Management courses. He has also attended the Higher Defence Management Course at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He has been commended by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief and Chief of Air Staff for meritorious service. Air Force Station Faridabad is an important Logistics hub for Western Air Command. It provides valuable Logistics support to various units of IAF.

    Combined operations of INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant

    New Delhi, 10th June 2023: Indian Ocean – The Indian Navy showcased its formidable maritime capabilities with a spectacular display of multi-carrier operations and the coordinated deployment of more than 35 aircraft in the Arabian Sea. This demonstration of naval prowess underscores India’s commitment to safeguarding its national interests, maintaining regional stability, and fostering cooperative partnerships in the maritime domain. It also marks a significant milestone in Indian Navy’s pursuit of enhancing maritime security and power-projection in the Indian Ocean, and beyond. The exercise involved seamless integration of two Aircraft Carriers INS Vikramaditya and the indigenously built INS Vikrant- along with a diverse fleet of ships, submarines and aircraft, showcasing India’s technological expertise in the maritime domain. INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, centre-pieces of the exercise, serve as ‘floating sovereign airfields’, providing a launch platform for a wide array of aircraft, including MiG-29K fighter jets, MH60R, Kamov, Sea King, Chetak and ALH helicopters. These mobile bases can be positioned anywhere, allowing for increased mission flexibility, timely response to emerging threats and sustained air operations to safeguard our national interests across the globe. In addition, they provide our friends with an assurance that the Indian Navy is capable and ready to support our ‘collective’ security needs in the Region. The successful demonstration of two-carrier battle group operations serves as a powerful testament to the pivotal role of sea-based air power in maintaining maritime superiority. As India continues to strengthen its security apparatus, significance of Aircraft Carriers will remain paramount in shaping the nation’s defence strategy and promoting regional stability.

Continual improvements in fuel efficiency blended with the need to reduce carbon footprint and achieve the net zero vision is driving the path to Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Hybrid Propulsion systems. How modern technologies such as AI/ML, Manufacturing 4.0, IoT, AR/VR are benefiting the industry players fit into the digital era and supporting in driving the next phase of growth? The propelled growth in the Aerospace &Defence industry also comes with challenge of acute skill shortage and talent depletion across the value stream especially in the manufacturing and MRO segment.New-age technologies and processes such as cybersecurity, robotics and automation, 3D printing, new manufacturing techniques, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, alternative fuels and energy sources, new aircraft designs, alternative modes of rapid transit, and geospatial technology will be prominent in the future of the aerospace sector. By leveraging the potential of manufacturing 4.0 technologies, industry players can benefit from cost effectiveness and provide real value. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are slowly integrating such techs in their factories to build smart factories through real-time intelligence. This is enabling them to make more informed decisions about product design, performance, and value in the marketplace. By leveraging data aggregation technologies with predictive analytics, cognitive, and machine-learning capabilities, they are improving forecasting accuracy and predictive maintenance. The IoT allows collecting large volumes of data and is applied not only by manufacturers but airliners to optimize and enhance the processes. IoT is used to send critical data from engines, wing flaps, bleed valves, and landing gear to technicians for preventive maintenance. With huge amounts of data being generated by IoT, it becomes imperative to analyze these with the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) and other cognitive systems for predictive maintenance, higher performance and greener operations. Modern technologies like additive manufacturing play a critical role in obtaining certain complex parts for aircraft by traditional production processes, especially in low volume, minimum time, and lesser weight efficiently. Understanding the sector’s focus on sustainability driven innovation, how do you think aviation players are contributing to this and additionally undertaking steps to achieve their sustainability goals? The responsibility of reducing the carbon footprint has always been specifically very huge on the A&D industry. OEMs and airlines are doing everything they can to reduce both fuel burn and carbon emissions and carving the path towards becoming carbon neutral progressively overtime.The move toward Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Hybrid propulsion are some of the steps in this direction. Additionally building the Sustainable Innovation goal, vision and roadmap towards becoming Carbon neutral over time and cascading it proactively across the organisation and the ecosystem of suppliers and partners will enable the entire ecosystem to start incorporating sustainability and innovation at a concept and foundation level in the entire system ensuring that Sustainable Innovation gets ingrained as a culture and way of life for the future. What does the future outlook seem like for aerospace capabilities for India? India has been the global delivery hub for design and engineering talent for the A&D industry for more than two decades now. India has seen itself emerge from the status of a defence buyer and A&D Engineering and IT services hub to becoming the emerging Manufacturing and Supply Chain power house of the A&D map of the globe. Today in-house and global A&D players are investing in Manufacturing, ER&D, Digital and Physical Systems build and integration capabilities in the country both for the commercial and defence sector. The offset obligations and indigenisation drive has further encouraged and propelled growth from a technology,manufacturing and supply chain perspective. India’s buying power in Commercial and Defence sector coupled with favourable investment policies and subsidies, skill and talent availability in the A&D sector and ever-growing start-up sector is converging extremely well to position India as one of the fastest growing A&D zones of the globe. India is also becoming a desired emerging destination for MRO and After Market Services. This is still an emerging sector and will be a longer journey when compared to the growth of ERD and Manufacturing.     Flight operations starts from Kanpur Airport’s New Civil Enclave

    New Delhi, 8th June, 2023: The first flight operation from the newly inaugurated integrated Civil Enclave of Kanpur Airport started from 7th June, 2023.A-320 aircraft of Indigo airlines on Bengaluru- Kanpur- Bengaluru sector was the first flight to operate from the new building and was given water cannon salute.Another Indigo Flight on Mumbai- Kanpur-Mumbai sector reached Kanpur at 1514 hours with 125 passengers and take off 6 E5117 took place at 1548 hours with 184 passengers. In order to provide enhanced civil aviation infrastructure, a new upgraded Civil Enclave at Kanpur Airport was inaugurated by the Civil Aviation Ministry on 26th May, 2023. The newly‐inaugurated Civil Enclave is equipped to handle 400 passengers during peak hour, as compared to 50 passengers earlier. The newly developed apron of the Civil Enclave is suitable for parking three A‐321/ B‐737 type of aircraft along with a new link Taxi Track of 713m X 23m. The new Terminal Building has eight check‐in counters, three conveyor belts (one in Departure and two in Arrival Hall) and offers a retail and F&B area of 850 sqm. Built in 6243 sqm. area ‐ 16 times bigger than the previous terminal building.
