Taufkirchen, 25 January 2023: Defence industry tech player meets “third wave” AI specialists: With sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT and AI company 21strategies, two of Europe’s leading innovators in their industries agree on a strategic collaboration. The aim is to jointly drive the development of next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) for defence systems. To this end, HENSOLDT is participating in 21strategies’ financing round, which will give the cooperation a strong foundation. Artificial intelligence is crucial to the performance of many HENSOLDT products. The agreed partnership will take HENSOLDT’s AI competencies to a new level. Because with new AI approaches of the so-called Third Wave, such as cognitive AI, decisions in combat situations and the reaction to unknown threats can be decisively accelerated. In addition, interesting synergies result from the combination with HENSOLDT’s existing Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) competencies, which will further increase the performance of AI in the future. “As a technology company in the defence industry, we have special requirements for AI,” says Celia Pelaz, Board Member and Chief Strategy Officer at HENSOLDT. “In order to optimally enable highly complex defence systems, we need to master artificial intelligence in its entire range. To this end, we develop many AI competencies in-house and supplement them in a very targeted manner by working with specialised partners such as 21strategies. As a strategic investor, we are able to provide the company with significant support in the defence sector and benefit from the targeted and rapid further development of the technology. Because we at HENSOLDT are convinced: The defence systems of tomorrow will be created at the interface of artificial intelligence with the deep knowledge of the application scenarios of our customers. The minority shareholding in 21strategies is the first of its kind at HENSOLDT. This is right in line with our policy of working with young and dynamic high-tech companies with strong cooperation potential.” 21strategies trains next-generation AI for optimal decision-making at machine speed, enabling users to make and implement tactical decisions quickly and efficiently in complex and uncertain situations. The two companies are already working closely together on the GhostPlay project for the German Armed Forces Digitisation and Technology Research Centre (DTEC.Bw). Through the successful cooperation with one of the most innovative representatives of the defence industry, we are once again making our AI tech stack available for defence as well. In doing so, it is of great concern to us to offer AI systems that meet our clients’ requirements for the legal and ethical compliance of AI. HENSOLDT will therefore also benefit greatly from our expertise with value-based engineering,” says Yvonne Hofstetter, CEO and Co-Founder of 21strategies.

The Future of Travel: How OTAs Are Revolutionizing Customer Engagement

By Harminder Singh Ari In a world marred with boring content, customer engagement becomes the edge that the world’s leading travel and hospitality brands need. When done correctly, customer engagement enables businesses to gain a competitive advantage by fostering brand loyalty and awareness through personalized customer interactions and aids in prioritizing and extending relationships with customers between flights, stays, and experiences. New technologies have increased competition among tourism providers, emphasizing the importance of personalization. Hence, customer engagement strategies for tourism companies play a critical role in significantly growing a brand’s net sales and profit margin growth by providing both direct and indirect benefits. Why is customer engagement important? • It boosts sales funnel velocity and revenue • It fetches customer feedback and insights • And it helps sustain customer interest. Here are some strategies that Online Travel Aggregators (OTAs) can implement to build consistent customer journeys across touchpoints: 1. Leveraging Data Intelligence With Customer Data Platform (CDP): With every customer’s unique interaction with the platform comes the need for a 360-degree view of their attributes, behavior, and patterns to customize a user roadmap. A CDP helps travel companies unify & protect customer data and establish relevant insights to provide customers with a hyper-personalized omnichannel experience. 2. Personalization As A Key Tool For Customer Engagement: Personalization is no longer optional, and that’s the truth. The more brands personalize their content and communication and give them a holistic experience on their platform, the more likely are users to remain loyal and not churn. Moreover, personalization brings in a sizable increase in sales, ROI, and user engagement. Personalization & recommendation across channels and user segments ensure increasing user engagement. 3. Omnichannel Marketing: Companies must shift their focus from a channel-centric to a customer-centric approach to remain competitive in the travel industry. Omnichannel marketing is a great tool to enhance customer engagement and retention by creating a cohesive campaign that reaches customers across multiple touchpoints. 4. Breaking Data Silos: An organization’s silos must be broken down to think beyond channels. Data isolation makes it difficult for businesses to determine the extent of a particular team’s impact on CX activities. 5. Increasing Retention: When you pay attention to increasing user retention in your business, you invariably drive sales, increase conversions, and boost business. You decrease your CAC, nurture leads and users better, and incentivize users to remain loyal to your platform. It’s a well-known fact that the cost of acquiring new customers is often much higher than retaining existing ones. This is why investing in retention efforts can significantly impact a company’s bottom line. A user spending twice on your platform will always be more important than spending once and leaving. Needless to say, customer engagement is at the forefront of campaigns, companies, and currency (sales). Customer engagement is more important than ever in today’s fast-paced and constantly evolving business landscape. Companies that neglect to engage with their customers risk losing them to competitors who prioritize this vital aspect of business. To ensure they are meeting the needs and expectations of their customers, companies must first determine the actual cost of ignoring engagement. A great place to start is by evaluating where they stand in comparison to industry benchmarks in a post-pandemic world. By doing so, companies can gain valuable insight into where to improve to stay competitive. (The writer is Vice President – India Sales at WebEngage. Views expressed are personal)

RM reviews Aero India 2023 preparations during apex committee meeting

New Delhi, 24th Jan 2023: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh reviewed the preparations of the forthcoming 14th edition of Aero India during the apex committee meeting held in New Delhi on January 24, 2023. He was given a detailed account of the arrangements, which will be held in Bengaluru between February 13-17, 2023.Rajnath Singh exhorted all the stakeholders to ensure fool-proof arrangements for the participants. He said, Aero India 2023 will not just be an event, but a display of the growing prowess of the defence & aerospace sector and the rise of a strong & self-reliant ‘New India’. The five-day event, on the theme ‘The runway to a billion opportunities’, will be the largest-ever aero show organised at Air Force Station, Yelahanka in a total area of around 35,000 sqm. As on date, 731 exhibitors have registered for the event. Defence Ministers’ Conclave, with the theme ‘Shared Prosperity Through Enhanced Engagement in Defence (SPEED)’, and a CEOs Roundtable are among the marquee events. The Manthan start-up event and Bandhan ceremony, which witnesses signing of MoUs, will also be part of the event, along with a fabulous air show on all the five days. It will showcase the paradigm shift the Government has brought in the aim of organising such events, that also include DefExpo. The events have been restructured with focus on increasing defence exports and forging partnerships rather than merely import of weapons/equipment. The RM pointed out that the Indian defence industry is going through a transformational phase and the active participation of the private sector is the biggest catalyst to that change. “Not just the private sector, but R&D establishments and academia are also working together with the Government. Aero India is a medium to provide a platform to all the stakeholders to jointly strengthen the defence & aerospace sector and contribute to Nation Building,” he added. RM emphasised that while Aero India is a business event, it also aims to strengthen India’s relations with other countries. He also underlined the importance of these events for the business ecosystem of the states in which they are organised as well as available opportunities. The RM commended Bengaluru for successfully organising several editions of AeroIndia, saying that the event is shaping Karnataka as an epicenter of aviation and aerospace industry. He described Karnataka as one of the leading states which contributes to the economic growth of the country. “The state is known for its skilled manpower and robust defence manufacturing ecosystem. It is a preferred center for manufacturing and R&D activities for domestic & multinational defence and aviation companies,” he said. Shri Rajnath Singh noted the excellent coordination among the officials of MoD and the Karnataka Government to make the event a grand success. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and state government officials joined the meeting through video conferencing, while Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and other senior officials of Ministry of Defence attended the meeting physically.

Gujsail Gives Impetus on Medical Emergency Services in Gujarat

In the medical term “Golden Hour” is a crucial time as it decides the life of any critical patient. To ensure timely transfer of any such patient the state nodal agency for aviation’ GUJSAIL’ started medical Emergency Services through its air ambulance in Gujarat in March 2022 which has proved to be life savior for many citizens at a very affordable cost. The Government of Gujarat has always been a beacon in leading the way for path breaking concepts in India and showing the way for others to follow. Such leadership also comes with a strong sense of responsibility, ownership and accountability. The state operated air ambulance is the first and only one of its kind in India in service as of today. Under the leadership of the 17th Chief Minister of the state of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Bhai Patel, this project was inaugurated in March 2022 as a service to the residents of Gujarat as a subsidised service to save lives and bring state of the art medical services to those who otherwise could not have afforded such treatment. The advancement of medical care and technology, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, has now brought high-technology driven medical care in centers of excellence and super specialty which are largely in metros, which meant that patients in smaller towns and cities had to either endure long and uncomfortable journeys to such specialised care centers which also included the danger of interim medical care during transportation. The Civil Aviation Department, Government of Gujarat launched services of Air Ambulance for the residents of Gujarat, in March 2022, by using the state owned Beechcraft Super King Air B200 aircraft for patients who would need expedited transfer across the state for medical care. This was based on the ‘Golden Hour’ philosophy that if treatment can be provided in the first 24 hours after a traumatic incident or injury the chances of survival for a patient increase significantly. This involved retro-fitting the 23 year old aircraft with full ICU capabilities on-board in addition to bringing an ICU/ER experienced Medical Services Team to mobilise patients with severe distress to be moved. The Civil Aviation Department launched services when the first patient was shifted from Rajkot to Chennai, with Paraquat poisoning. Unfortunately, the patient had mistakenly consumed the pesticide for which there is no known antidote and had to be moved to MGM Hospital in Chennai for higher-care and course of treatment. Similarly since then the air ambulance has provided relief and succor, on several occasions, to those who need it. One such incident was on the day of Diwali where a patient had to be moved urgently to Chennai, keeping aside personal priorities, the pilots and the medical crews were immediately deployed and the flight was operated to save a life. Such dedication and answer to the call of duty to go above and beyond from both the pilots and the medical crew demonstrated the seriousness and high professional standards that are in place for such critical requirements. Another critical role the air ambulance plays today is in the area of organ transplant. Organs such as heart and lung are time bound and have to be transferred within a defined time in order for the sacrifice made by the donor to be successful. One such example was when the team operated for a patient who was admitted for a heart transplant at CIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad and the donor was in Surat and retrieved the organ and transferred to the destination and the transplant was completed in less than 3 hours from the retrieval well within the limit for such an operation. In the past 9-months, the Civil Aviation Department operated Air Ambulance has done over 6 organ transplants providing critical transfers in a time bound manner. As per information available to us, this is possibly the highest number of organ transfers in the country done by an Air Ambulance again showcasing the excellence and high standards of professionalism in the Department. India to experience the true benefits of DigiYatra soon: Jyotiraditya M. Scindia

* India pioneering a seamless experience from entry into airport to boarding of aircraft through DigiYatra. *Airports and airlines should come forward to enhance ease of travel for air travellers New Delhi, 18th January, 2023: The adaption of facial recognition technology in civil aviation is a novel concept that is being pioneered through DigiYatra and the countrywill experience the true benefits of it as we are expanding from 3 airports currently to airports in Pune, Vijaywada, Kolkata and eventually throughout the country, said Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, honourable Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Steel.Internationally, a 40 percent reduction in time for both passengers and aircrafts in terms of boarding which tremendously improves ease of travel for passengers and enhances the throughput capabilities for airlines and airports because of reduced processing time. The DigiYatra app has been downloaded 300,000 time and adoption rates in Delhi and Bengaluru is creeping up. In Varanasi it is almost 20 percent; one in 5 travellers is not using the orthodox old system of passing through the airport. I would urge the Delhi and Bengaluru airports to improve adoption rates and I would request the airlines to drive extremely hard to promote ease of travel for passengers, he added. The Minister was speaking at the 14th International Civil Aviation Conference organised by ASSOCHAM. Answering a question on promotion of Drone and Cargo Industry in India, Shri Scindia says “The government is incentivizing and promoting the use of drones and as many as 12 line ministries are using drone for their day to day activities. From the agricultural ministry to spray pesticides, mining industry for explorations, Rural Development ministry for surveys, checking of transmission towers by Power ministry and agencies like the NDRF and SDRF under the Home ministry, drones are being used extensively. Today the government is the primary driver of demand for drones. Cargo is another area where we have a tremendous future for growth and by cargo we mean not just equipment and merchandise being moved. From horticulture products, poultry, fresh foods, fruits and vegetables from far flung areas of Indiaare being moved not only domestically, but internationally to Germany, London and many other destinations. Post Covid COVID we have increased our number of freighters from seven to 29, and also our number of million tonnes that we’ve transported, it shows that this is a sector that holds tremendous promise. We are working to resolve the various pain points and the latest being the issue of cargo being double checked during transhipment which has already been resolved to a large extent. Cargo as an industry has tremendous potential and we must work together to enhance ease of business as the growth of the industry will also mean growth for all stakeholders.” he added. Shri Narayan Rao, Chairman ASSOCHAM National Council on Civil Aviation and Deputy MD, GMR Group said, “Civil aviation sector plays a major role in economy in terms of GDP and employment generation. India should focus on how to create a civil aviation hub in the country. New trends such as DigiYatra for touchless travel, use of local sectors, skill development so that country is benefited. Industry working with government to meet issues and challenges is required. The most important stakeholders are airports. Tier 1 and 2 airports should be privatised. The government is planning another 25 airports in India for privatisation. India is looking forward to 10 million tonnes of cargo by 2030. India still has to go a long way in cargo and in terms of new policies. Civil aviation industry is also working towards environmental issues and airports are concentrating on green power. It requires support from all stakeholders.” Shri PK Thakur, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Civil Aviation GOI said, ”The government intends to increase Indians’ access to and affordability of civil aviation. Civil aviation will propel India to become a $5 trillion economy by 2024, serving as a significant growth engine for the country. The latest renovations in the sector are enabling many people in India to participate in their first Udaan, as well as assisting the sector in catching up with the growth trajectory more quickly” Several awards honouring outstanding achievers in segments like Airports, Manufacturing, Airlines, Services, Construction & Consultancy, Institutes and young achievers were also distributed during the conference.
