India is too big market to ignore…

In Conversation The global technological solutions company “endava” has been driving innovations and transforming businesses of their clients based in over 25 countries. Within their 13 industry verticals, travel is one of the most important sectors where they serve airlines and airports. In a candid discussion, Dejan Cusic, SVP, Travel Industry, endava briefs Vishal Kashyap, Managing Editor Aviation World about how they see their market in the near future and best technical solutions they have for their customers. Excerpts… Looking into the growing Indian Aviation, how do you project to tap the sector in near future? India is too big market to ignore and it’s a growing market. So, it is something we will definitely focus on in the future. As we are speaking now, we don’t have any presence there, but we are considering our options how to penetrate into the Indian market. There are a few ways and at the moment we are deciding on our options. Similar situation we had in Australia two years ago as we didn’t had our presence there but now we have 300-400 people in that region. So, I don’t know but on the next Arab Aviation Summit we’ll talk and I’m sure that story will be different in a year time related to India. How convenient it is to adapt to endava products and use it? We have lot of technology knowledge people implementing our technology. We don’t have any specific product but how it works is typically we would come to airline sometimes with our idea and explore their idea and then we would do project and implement what they want. Almost always it’s bespoke software development. Why bespoke? Because once when you go with out of the box product, it’s very hard to differentiate yourself because everyone else has it. So we would go and do a very custom build program for particular business problem for our clients. Your products/technology seems to be very unique, so post-implementation will it have any cost impact on the passengers? It’s a very generic and as I mentioned a few things and one was NDC one order. So the whole idea behind new distribution channel in one order is that airlines will be able to upsell and cross sell products from other people. For example, a few days ago, I came from Europe to Dubai and the airline turned out that internet which was quite expensive on my roaming tariff from Ireland. I’m wondering what options you have. You go to the first shop and you buy SIM card locally, you put it in your phone and you have your data through local carrier. That’s one way to do it. The other way to do it would be may be for the airlines on the booking part when I’m booking, maybe to sell me eSIM. And before I fly, I scan eSIM and when I land in Dubai, I already have local SIM. So I think that’s the future for airlines to think about what else they could sell for us. And we will actually like it and appreciate it because it will make our life easier. And as in case of this eSIM, if I would have it, I wouldn’t bother around buying it. So you see my point. And that will enable because they will make more money on ancillaries, which I’m willingly paying because I need it. That will enable them to make their basic offering more attractive as well. I believe that is going to be a very good solution for your customers. Any particular point that you want to highlight and share with our readers? Again, great industry, great place to be for the airlines. You know all the stories about the future demand as technology will play a big part of it. One thing which is mentioned quite often now is sustainability and we did first moves in terms of how technology could help with sustainability. Airlines and aviation as an industry is quite an old industry with a lot of legacy systems, and we have some specific interesting tools and methodology how we help airlines to transform their IT systems. (The interaction was done at Arab Aviation Summit, in Ras Al kahimah, UAE)

Vimal Priya,Technical Director, AirFleet Managers & Managing Director, Aviatrics Global

Distinguished Visionary and a Pro Aviator, Esteemed Business Leader,on the forefront of Asset Management with Unmatched Precision. Aviation World Magazine has featured him in the front cover alongwith his interview which highlights the USP of his company and how they are the preferred partner of their customers. Q: Tell us about the journey of AirFleet Managers. How it started and what was the vision? A: At this stage, I would like to give the Background of the founding members, Pallavi Joshi (C.E.O.) and Myself (Technical Director) Pallavi comes from an A.M.E. background and has worked with various airlines in Quality and engineering departments, I hold FAA Licence and have worked with various operators around the world as a qualified engineer working on a wide variety of aircraft i.e.B737, B747, B757, B767, MD10, MD11 L1011 to name a few. Our journey as AirFleet Managers started in the year 2010 when we wanted to establish something in India after our 14-year-long tenure in at foreign land. With a futuristic vision of Pallavi Joshi who sensed the vacuum in the market at that time for the Technical Consultancy Services. During those years (2010/11), we realised that there is a real dearth of quality Technical Consultancy Service providers in India in the field of Aviation Asset Management. The technical consultancy field was predominated by foreign nationals and there were not many people from our country who were involved during that period. Lessors were facing great difficulties in finding local Consultants and positioning someone from Europe or America was a huge cost to them. India being an ever-growing aviation market, there was potential for more aircraft entering into service in India and the demand for local companies to provide professional services was sensed. With the thought of supporting lessors by providing them solutions which will be as per industry standards and cost-effective, AirFleet Managers came into existence. The journey started with me working, on the technical side as a Technical Consultant and Pallavi taking care of all the finances and contracts/agreements. During the initial years, there were several challenges and constraints which are normal and we can define them as teething problems, which were eventually resolved with the experience we gained and implemented the same into our business. Initially, we were working as subcontractors and eventually got our first direct contract in 2011 from Aircastle. The Aircastle technical team were impressed by the quality of services we were providing, which helped us in building trust (it will be worth noting, that we are still the preferred consultancy company for Aircastle since 2011). Pallavi & I had a very clear vision since the beginning – AirFleet Managers should stand as one of the leading technical consultancy companies by providing honest and unbiased services to lessors/banks or owners of aircraft. We didn’t want to be number one in terms of volume but in terms of standards and quality of services we provide to our clients and I feel we have achieved this in the last 10 years of our journey. To make AirFleet Managers a better place to work and have good collaborative relations with our clients, we follow some of the basic rules which have been in force since the beginning and are still followed. These rules have helped us to become what we are today – “The Dependable Team”: * Always be honest with all the stakeholders in a project. * Deliver on time. * Give more than what you take. * Deliver on commitments. Q: What are the current business verticals of AirFleet Managers? Also, brief us about your global presence. A: Today, AirFleet Managers is the trusted partner for providing asset management services to many of the tier-one leasing companies around the world., We provide a wide range of services to leasing companies, banks and owners of aircraft. Our services include, but are not limited to – * Pre-purchase inspections. * Lease Negotiations. * Records Digitisation & Management. * Records Review. * Maintenance Reserves Management. * Mid-Term and Annual Audits. * Engine Shop Visit Management. * Engine and APU Management. * Heavy Check Oversight. * Redelivery Check Management. With just a home office in Delhi in 2010, AirFleet Managers now have a global presencewith offices inIndia, Ireland, Singapore & Malaysia. We opened our first office on foreign land i.e. Singapore in 2017, the second one at Dublin (Ireland) in 2019 and Malaysia in 2023. Our team is always ready to travel around the globe at very short notice from our clients. So,the whole world is our home. So far,our team have carried out multiple projects in diverse nationalities by delivering successful services in over 56 countries. Q: Aviation Sector is growing in India at a very fast pace. As an Aviation Technical Consultancy, how do you see this both as an opportunity as well as a challenge? A: We would say, an “Opportunity”. It’s time for India to be the world leader in Aviation, with huge orders coming from Indian operators, there is a great potential for growth for the ones who are ready to take this upcoming wave in their stride. There are a lot of players today in the market but not many have the experience that is required to manage the complexities of Technical Aircraft Asset Management. The Lessors need a dependable partner to look into the minute details which leaves them with the opportunity to look at other critical areas of Leasing. The ability to work with little or no supervision is what benchmarks us against our competitors. Coming to “Challenge” We can safely say, that AirFleet Managers are geared up to take this challenge. We have over 40 in-house consultants working with us and our team is growing day by day. Expansion plans are already chalked out and our management is working diligently to cater for all the requirements arising in future. We are adding more manpower, futuristic software as well as more capabilities to offer our clients in the coming days. Q: Brief us about the new

Exclusive Interview

At the Singapore Airshow 2024, Textron Aviation displayed four of its popular aircraft variants at display. To understand more about these aircraft and discuss on various aspects, Aviation World Team met two senior management of Textron Aviation, Jimmy Beeson, Director, Technical Marketing & Tony Jones, Vice-President Sales – APAC. They shared their insight with Vishal Kashyap, Managing Editor of the publication.Excerpts… Q: We would like to know more about the current market status of Textron Aviation and also if you would like to focus upon any particular aircraft that is being quite famous in the APAC region? Jimmy Beeson: From a company standpoint, I’ll say we were always among the leaders in the market in terms of innovation and producing products to meet the needs of various customers throughout the world. And I think that’s a great lead into the second part of your question of what products appeal to this market. I think four of them we have on static at SAS 2024 to show, but certainly it doesn’t stop there. King Air Family Look at the King Air platform, which we’re now celebrating 60 years of the King Air and how durable and reliable that platform is. But also, you know, I think it’s a great opportunity to be able to see that how configurable it is for a multitude of missions. So, when I look at configuring not only from an interior standpoint to meet the customer specifications and needs in terms of how many customers I can take, what sort of baggage and payload capacity I need to have on the airplane, but also a platform that is versatile in how you operate it in terms of being able to operate on and off runway. So, that makes it very popular in areas of the world. Where, either you’re trying to operate in and out of short runways, high altitude runways, or potentially dirt, grass, and gravel runways as well. So, that makes it appealing to customers all over the world. Then you take the 360, for instance, and its high payload capability. It’s got a very high full fuel payload of over 1,500 pounds, meaning I can fill the tanks and still put either 1,500 pounds of payload or roughly seven or eight passengers onboard and still maintain that great range that the King Air 360 can do. And then I look at the King Air 260,that still maintains the great durability and reliability, but also has the ability to either take large amounts of payload, or passengers, or loiter and stay in the air for a great amount of time. Those are all great characteristics of the King Air platform that’s made it so successful over the last 60 years. The 360 and 260 platforms were also bringing about change to the King Air. The product line, which I’m sure you’re probably very familiar with at this point, the auto throttles, the digital pressurization, electric ground cooling, and the beautiful new interior. So, you’re starting to see a lot of that step change that you see on even some of the citations with the new interior making its way into the King Air platforms as well. Citation Jet Series The two CJ series have done very well in the market. The M2 is the smaller of the two. It’s our light entry jet. It’s got great performance and great operating economics, so it’s very efficient to operate both from a fuel burn standpoint and cost of operation standpoint. What I feel makes it attractive in markets such as this is its performance capability. So, it has great range, great payload range, meaning it can maintain a large percentage of its range when you’re adding payload, albeit passengers or payload, to the platform. But it’s got great short field performance. So, both on standard days and high and odd performance, so high elevation, warm temperatures, it maintains great short field performance, which makes it available and capable of performing in and out of a lot of airports that some other jets just simply can’t. CJ-4, much of the same, great operating economics, even better payload to range capability. You’re talking about an airplane that with four passengers on board can go over 1,900 nautical miles. Even with eight passengers on board, it can go almost 17. So, you don’t have that steep drop off in operating range when adding payload. And then you maintain a lot of those light jet capabilities, the great field performance, the great operating economics. Those are all things that you don’t lose by stepping up into the larger CJ. You just maintain all that great operational characteristics. Citation Latitude Lastly, the Latitude, which is an aircraft we have done a great job of positioning as both a commercial option but also a great charter or corporate flight department option. It’s very comfortable. Its cabin amenities are well-appointed, but it maintains great operating economics, short field performance. It’s got the latest in Garmin G5000 technology, which makes it very pilot-friendly and very intuitive and easy to operate. It allows our pilots to just aviate and operate the airplane rather than worry about knobs and switches. And control. So, really building on a legacy of the Citation brand and the Citation family, culminating in the newer aircraft such as Latitude and Longitude. Longitude being our flagship aircraft, it’s got an almost 3,500 nautical mile range and great payload and great cabin technology, great cockpit technology. It also has the G5000 suite in it with an optional HUD EVS now, enhanced vision system. It’s got a heads-up display integrated. Q: Your focus is on enhancement of technology and onboard facility for all the category of business Jets. Is this one of the key areas that you have improvised? Jimmy Beeson: Well, I guess more so, I think the message now is rather than a sole focus on improvements to legacy or clean sheet designs, we found a proper mix where we continue
