    AIR INDIA AND SAUDIA SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO EXPAND STRATEGIC COOPERATION

    Bengaluru, 23 July 2026 Air India, India’s leading global airline, and Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand strategic cooperation between the two airlines. Building on their existing codeshare agreement, the MoU aims to strengthen connectivity between Saudi Arabia and India while supporting the continued growth of travel between the two countries. The agreement was signed by H.E. Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, and Mr. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India. The MoU sets out a phased approach to developing the partnership. Areas of cooperation include expanding the existing codeshare agreement, improving connectivity across both airlines’ networks, exploring terminal co-location and exploring further operational and commercial opportunities, including cooperation between their loyalty programs. The two parties will also assess opportunities to extend the partnership in the future to other airlines within their respective groups, including flyadeal and Air India Express. H.E. Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar said: “India is an important market for Saudia, and Air India is a valued partner in strengthening travel links between our two countries. Since its privatisation in 2022, Air India has significantly expanded its global alliance network. Today, the airline maintains 25 codeshare partnerships and more than 120 interline agreements with leading carriers worldwide, providing seamless access for Air India customers to over 1,000 destinations globally.

    Four HAVELSAN Capabilities Successfully Complete NATO CWIX 2026 AV&V Testing

    Ankara, Türkiye | July 23, 2026 At NATO’s Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination, eXercise (CWIX), held annually in Poland, HAVELSAN successfully completed the Assurance Verification and Validation (AV&V) tests under the NATO certification process with four of its capabilities. DOOB-HQ, KAPI, Embedded NONC2 ATA DLP, and successfully completed the dedicated AV&V tests conducted to verify their interoperability with the NATO Federated Mission Networking (FMN) specifications, thereby advancing within the NATO certification process. During the CWIX Exercise, where the interoperability of national command and control information systems with NATO, Allied, and Partner Nation systems is tested, completing the AV&V tests against the FMN Spiral 4 specifications—an important prerequisite for participation in NATO missions conducted between 2025 and 2027—once again demonstrated the maturity and capability of HAVELSAN’s solutions. HAVELSAN has been an active participant in the CWIX Exercise since 2012 with the capabilities it has developed. The company previously successfully completed AV&V testing with DOOB and KÂŞİF in 2019; ADVENT CMS and ADVENT MARTI in 2023; KARTAL and NONC2 ATA DLP in 2024; and DOOB-HQ, DOOB-TACTICAL, KÂŞİF, OCTOPUS, NONC2 ATA DLP, and TDLYM in 2025. HAVELSAN Participated in the Exercise with 43 Personnel and 16 Systems The CWIX 2026 Exercise, held between 6–26 June 2026, brought together more than 3,000 personnel, 780 systems, and representatives from 46 countries, including NATO Allies and European Union member states, across 20 capability focus areas. HAVELSAN participated in the exercise with 43 personnel and 16 systems across the focus areas of MIP, TDL, MDC2, DM, COMMS, GEOMETOC, CBRN, FMNCS, AIR, MARITIME, M&S, and CYBER. The participating systems included ADVENT KALYON, ADVENT UFUK, ADVENT TALAY/REI, DOOB-HQ, DOOB-MOBILE, KÂŞİF, CBRN, OCTOPUS, KAPI, NONC2 ATA DLP, Embedded NONC2 ATA DLP, LYNX, I-SMART, FIVE, RTaaS, and ICS SENTINEL. This year also marked the first participation of several HAVELSAN capabilities in new focus areas: LYNX and Embedded NONC2 ATA DLP in the AIR Focus Area, ADVENT TALAY/REI in the GEOMETOC Focus Area, KAPI in the FMN Core Services Focus Area, IC SENTINEL in the CYBER Focus Area, and FIVE in the Modeling & Simulation Focus Area.     GA-ASI AND MBDA COMMIT TO WEAPONS COLLABORATION Companies Will Integrate SPEAR Onto MQ-9B and Gambit 6

    FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW – 21 July 2026 General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) and MBDA have announced a commitment to integrate the European missile-maker’s SPEAR precision strike weapons onto new aircraft built by the American uncrewed aircraft manufacturer. GA-ASI President David R. Alexander and MBDA UK Managing Director Chris Allam signed a memorandum of understanding that outlined the agreement at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026. The companies will work together to ensure the MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft and Gambit 6 collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) can carry and use the SPEAR weapons. “We’ve built an excellent business relationship with MBDA as part of the integration of the Brimstone missile onto the UK’s Protector,” said Mr. Alexander. “So, working with MBDA to enable SPEAR on our broader MQ-9B line, and our Gambit CCA, feels like a very natural extension of our partnership.” Protector RG Mk1 is the version of MQ-9B in operation for the UK Royal Air Force. “The consolidation of MBDA’s relationship with GA-ASI is a testament to the strength of our long history of cooperation, most recently with Brimstone and Protector,” said Mr. Allam. “Remotely piloted aircraft and autonomous/collaborative platforms, such as MQ-9B and Gambit, are revolutionizing modern air combat. Integrating the innovative capability of SPEAR multiplies the effect these platforms provide into decisive operational advantage.” SPEAR is MBDA’s miniature cruise missile, a next-generation air-launched surface attack weapon that provides a low collateral damage precision effect, with a high load out for persistence. SPEAR reaches beyond the horizon to ensure that the launch aircraft remains safely away from hostile air defenses, but with an engagement capability across a broad threat set. GA-ASI’s long range, high endurance MQ-9B platform is in operation or on order by close to a dozen nations, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and Poland. The Gambit CCA is an uncrewed combat aircraft optimized for attack roles such as electronic warfare, suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (DEAD) and stand-off precision strike, making it a versatile option for evolving security needs. GA-ASI and MBDA company leaders believe that the combination of these ready aircraft with the latest weapons will yield a highly relevant and quick-to-field new capability for global militaries.

It features a clean-sheet design, bringing the commercial VTOL sector’s rapid innovation in electric propulsion and rotor design directly into a performance-optimized configuration. At the core of the platform is innovation in hybrid-electric powertrain and optimum-speed tiltrotors: Hybrid-Electric Powertrain: A series hybrid-electric powertrain enables Halo to achieve significant range and endurance, while closely optimizing power through the full range of flight conditions.     Starlink puts private aviation connectivity in the spotlight

    Air India removes enroute fuel stop on Delhi-Toronto flights from 1 August 2026, deploys B787-9 featuring brand-new premium cabin interiors

    Air India today announced a significant upgrade to its Delhi-Toronto service, with the deployment of its brand-new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the route from 1 August 2026, enabling the airline to remove the enroute fuel stop at Vienna and operate the service non-stop. The removal of the fuel stop is subject to available airspaces and is intended to reduce the current flying time from Delhi to Toronto by nearly three hours, with the flying time decreasing from about 20 hours currently (including the fuel stop) to 17 hours. The return Toronto-Delhi service will continue to operate non-stop, with flying time of up to 16 hours. The deployment of the new line-fit Boeing 787-9 aircraft, purpose-built for Air India, will make journeys between India and Canada faster and more convenient while bringing Air India’s latest onboard product and premium travel experience to Canada for the first time. From 1 August 2026, Air India will operate daily flights between Delhi and Toronto, up from the current five weekly flights. The airline had temporarily reduced frequency on the route between June and July 2026 due to unprecedented fuel price increases and broader geopolitical developments that affected flight operating conditions. A dedicated Premium Economy cabin with wider seats in a 2-3-2 layout, 38-inch pitch providing ample legroom, generous recline, adjustable headrests, adjustable leg and calf rests, 13.3-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen, offering enhanced comfort and personal space. Economy Class experience, with ergonomically designed seats designed for long-haul travel, 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen, and improved comfort and thoughtfully integrated personal electronic device holders. Next-generation inflight entertainment, featuring a content library of over 3,000 hours, powered by the Thales AVANT Up system with high-definition touchscreens, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets and an intuitive user interface across all cabins. New mood lighting in the cabins inspired by ancient Indian wellness traditions. A refreshed onboard experience, including thoughtfully curated menus showcasing Indian and international flavours, premium chinaware, glassware and tableware, plush bedding, redesigned amenity kits and other signature touches that together deliver a more refined and consistent onboard experience.     The current edition of Aviation World has covered many areas of Aerospace & Defence based on the latest development in the sector. The front cover highlights three different images, first for the Union Civil Aviation Minister ….. who is leading from the front to steer Indian Civil Aviation sector to witness one of the most interesting phases. He is also facing most tumultuous timing due to the ongoing financial stress in the Aviation sector due to ATF rising cost and long airspace restrictions resulting in mounting losses for Indian carriers. Despite of all the ground level challenges,the minister is addressing new things on regular basis which keeps the sector motivated. We have featured many such developmental works in this edition done under his guidance which will be interesting to read.

    Our lead story on “ The West War” is another important feature which covers the ground level reality of the challenges faced by the Aviation sector. Its though time ahead and we believe it will pass soon .
