APAC Turboprop and Regional Jet Community meet at AAPA in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur,8th July 2026: The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) hosted the Asia Pacific Turboprop and Regional Jet Safety Exchange on June 30th, bringing together around 15 regional operators, aircraft manufacturers, and industry partners to share operational safety experiences, emerging trends and best practices. The virtual forum provided a dedicated platform for operators of turboprop and regional jet aircraft to discuss the unique operational challenges associated with regional aviation across the Asia Pacific. Participants exchanged information on safety performance, operational trends, training, human performance and future priorities aimed at further strengthening aviation safety. The meeting was attended by operators from across the region together with aircraft manufacturers ATR, Embraer and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada. ATR and Embraer shared valuable manufacturer perspectives on operational safety and training. Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Captain Somchai Sopanon from Bangkok Airways commented that regional and turboprop operations are essential to the connectivity and economic development of many communities across the Asia Pacific. While these operations often present unique operational challenges, they also provide significant opportunities for collaboration. Today’s Safety Exchange demonstrates the willingness of operators, manufacturers and industry partners to openly share experiences and work collectively to further strengthen aviation safety across the region. A key feature of the meeting was the confidential exchange of aggregated operational safety information submitted by participating operators. The anonymised information exchange enabled participants to identify common operational themes, discuss lessons learned and consider opportunities for collaborative safety improvements without identifying individual airlines. Participants also received updates on two significant regional initiatives led by AAPA. The first highlighted the ongoing development of the Asia Pacific Flight Path Management Manual, led by the Flight Safety Foundation with support from AAPA and regional operators. Participants were encouraged to contribute feedback through the regional survey to help ensure the Manual reflects the operational realities of the Asia Pacific. Participants also received an update on the recently completed Asia Pacific Crew Resource Management (CRM) Manual, a collaborative initiative involving regulators, airlines, an aircraft manufacturer, training organisations and academia. Recently presented to ICAO’s Asia/Pacific Regional Aviation Safety Team (APRAST), the Manual provides practical guidance and aims to further strengthen aviation safety across the Asia Pacific, especially in the area of human factors. The Safety Exchange reaffirmed AAPA’s commitment to providing practical forums that encourage collaboration, facilitate the sharing of operational experience and support continuous improvement in aviation safety throughout the Asia Pacific region.

FL Technics Indonesia opens aircraft painting facility in Bali

Bali, Denpasar, 8th July 2026: FL Technics Indonesia, the FAA Part-145 certified MRO provider, has opened a new aircraft painting facility at its Denpasar, Bali facility. The painting booth marks a significant expansion of the company’s full-service maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in Southeast Asia. On 30 June 2026, just days after the painting facility launched, FL Technics Indonesia also received  its first customer, Skyway Airlines, a Philippine air cargo carrier operating Boeing 737-400F freighter aircraft. The project involved repainting the airline’s third aircraft, which was later ferried to Clark International Airport in the Philippines for its inaugural ceremony on 3 July 2026. “The addition of a dedicated painting booth in Bali is part of our commitment to building a truly full-service MRO capability in the region,” said Martynas Grigas, Chairman of FL Technics Indonesia. “We are pleased to welcome our valued customers, Skyway Airlines, as the first to utilize this facility. Several more painting projects have been secured over the next couple of months, and we also received significant further demand as more operators across Southeast Asia are looking for this capability.” The new painting facility adds to FL Technics Indonesia’s existing MRO capabilities across its dual-station network. Currently, the company’s two facilities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali hold more than 20 approvals from the civil aviation authority, supported by a team of more than 700 aviation experts. Built to the highest industry standards, the Bali painting booth is equipped to handle complex livery projects with precision, efficiency, and full regulatory compliance. The Bali facility’s location is particularly well-suited to serve carriers operating across Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian region, reducing the need for extended ferry flights or overseas maintenance programs. The launch of the painting booth comes at a time of growing demand for MRO services across Southeast Asia. Extended aircraft delivery backlogs have increased the strategic importance of lifecycle extension and fleet maintenance services, including livery repaints to support rebranding, wet-lease transitions, and return-to-service programs. For cargo operators, maintaining aircraft closer to base reduces operational downtime and associated ferry flight costs.

DGCA India awards Type Certification to Embraer’s E-Jets family

New Delhi, India, July 7, 2026: Embraer’s family of E-Jets has received Type Certification from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The certification covers multiple aircraft from the E-Jets family, including the E190, E195, and the E195-E2, the world’s quietest and most fuel-efficient small narrowbody aircraft. “We welcome the type certification of Embraer’s aircraft and thank the DGCA for its thorough assessment,” said Raul Villaron, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, Head of Region Asia Pacific, Commercial Aviation. “With remarkable performance, economics, and passenger comfort, Embraer’s E-Jets are set to reshape regional aviation in India and support the Indian government’s UDAN vision.” The E-Jets is one of the most successful aircraft program in commercial aviation with more than 1,900 deliveries and continues to operate worldwide with more than 80 airlines across more than 50 countries. The E195-E2 has low operating cost and is the most fuel-efficient small narrowbody aircraft in operation today. It features a modern cabin with 2×2 seating with no middle seats, large overhead bins and individual passenger service units. The E175 is already type certified for India and is operated by Star Air. In February 2026, Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer announced an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the E175 regional jet, aligned to India’s Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) program. The next generation E195-E2 was triple certified by three key civil aviation authorities – the FAA (USA), EASA (Europe) and ANAC (Brazil) in 2018 and 2019 respectively. The E195-E2 is the most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft in operation today. “The E-Jets offers enhanced range of up to 7-hours and performance capabilities to operate from challenging airports with short runways or low pavement strength,” said Adity Shekhar, Regional Vice President, Sales, Embraer. “This certification enables us to support airlines expanding their networks and opening unique routes by tapping into ‘blue ocean’ opportunities that are too small for a large narrowbody or too far for a turboprop.” Embraer has a strong and growing presence in India, with nearly 50 aircraft across 11 different Embraer models currently in operation spanning commercial aviation, defense, and business aviation.
